Help needed on when it was studied please mumsnetters.

I need:

  1. level of study eg. Gcse/higher
  2. year of exam
  3. subject eg drama or English Literature
  4. board eg AQA, if known

Thank you

p.s. if anyone knows how I can find out when/where this was studied historically too that would be great.

I studied it in the third year of secondary school, so not for GCSE, the year before we started them. This would have been around 1987 in London.

mummyh2016 · 18/01/2023 22:11

I did it for GCSEs in 2004/2005. English literature, don't know what exam board though.

ReedRite · 18/01/2023 22:12

In English, not drama.

endofagain · 18/01/2023 22:13

Never studied it, but read it when I was about 13. This was back in the late 60s when we used to read books. I don't remember ever seeing it among the books we studied at school.

woodhill · 18/01/2023 22:14

Yes at A level

woodhill · 18/01/2023 22:15

Year 1985

English Literature

XenoBitch · 18/01/2023 22:15

Nope. Didn't read it as a kid.
Did AQA English in mid 90s. Got a C.
Read it as an adult though, and was horrified.

MothralovesGojira · 18/01/2023 22:17

Studied it in 1984/85 for A level English literature at 6th form but don't know which board.

Laiste · 18/01/2023 22:17

Late 80s, English lit, A level iirc.

Undisclosedlocation · 18/01/2023 22:18
  1. gce ‘o’ level
  2. 1983
  3. english lit
  4. sorry, no idea!
BiggerBoat1 · 18/01/2023 22:18

I'm a teacher. My Year 8s do a unit on dystopian literature and look at extracts from 1984. We don't read the whole thing though.

I don't ever remember studying it as a child - and I took English up to A Level.

endofagain · 18/01/2023 22:19

I just googled it out of interest to see if there was any information about when it was studied in schools. Apparently it is too offensive and upsetting to be studied by students at Northampton University. Confused

Cantthinkofadifferentname · 18/01/2023 22:19

1987 A level either JMB or AEB board I think

MrsAvocet · 18/01/2023 22:20

O level English Lit, 1982, Joint Matriculation Board.
I think my children all read it in year 9, so not for an exam.

NotDavidTennant · 18/01/2023 22:20

English Lit GCSE mid-90s.

Makinglists · 18/01/2023 22:21

3rd year (y9) in the days of olevel. Read it in 1984 - we were all a bit freaked out by that.

princessbear80 · 18/01/2023 22:22

Studied it in English. I have a feeling it was for GCSE (1997). But it might have been before that in year 9.

Shinyandnew1 · 18/01/2023 22:23

I remember doing that and Animal Farm in about year 9/10. 1990?

CleanHankie · 18/01/2023 22:23

English Literature GCSE 1994. Would have the exam board listed in my National Record of Achievement 😄 Possibly AEB or SEG

Sh4rkAttack · 18/01/2023 22:24

Didn't study it for O level, but read it in 3rd year of secondary school. About 1985.

Sweetnhappy1 · 18/01/2023 22:24

GCSE English Literature 1996

ethelredonagoodday · 18/01/2023 22:24

My y8 DD has just read the first chapter as part of their study of dystopia in English. I read it in Y9, (early 90s) but just by choice, we didn't study it at school.

I’m a teacher and have taught this recently to S5, Higher pupils.
