Help needed on when it was studied please mumsnetters.

I need:

  1. level of study eg. Gcse/higher
  2. year of exam
  3. subject eg drama or English Literature
  4. board eg AQA, if known

Thank you

p.s. if anyone knows how I can find out when/where this was studied historically too that would be great.

English literature. I can't remember if it was for my O level or a year or two before that, so between 1979 -1982.

I forgot teachers as a wonderful resource as well. Any English/drama teachers comments also gratefully received!

English Literature, although can't remember if it was GCSE or A Level, so would haven been either 2000 or 2002! Exam board was possibly OCR.

I never studied it, but read it when I was about 14 (late 70s). I read voraciously in my teens - Orwell, Huxley, Waugh, Greene, Laurie Lee. I thought 1984 was a classic ‘must read’?

eddiemairswife · 18/01/2023 22:30

Didn't read it at school, Got it from the library when I was 14. Only chose it because the title was intriguing. This was in1952. Have got all his fiction in Penguins.

Cyclingforcake · 18/01/2023 22:31

Year 9. Although we didn’t call it that in 1989. We did Fahrenheit 451 as well as a comparison.

Why?

Lavendersparkles22 · 18/01/2023 22:36

English teacher here. Have taught it to 15/16/17 year olds many times in the last 10 years. I'm in Scotland, so we have more freedom over exam texts for Higher/Advanced Higher.

We also regularly have pupils choose it as part of their dissertation study.

I read it in my 20s.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/01/2023 22:36

I did it for English Leaving Cert (Ireland) in 1984

CPL593H · 18/01/2023 22:37

Read it and saw the (first) film aged about 14, not on O level syllabus. Orwell was brilliant and truthful.
