Have cream crackers disappeared?

I have been to three different supermarkets this week and none had any. Well I lie, ONE had Jacobs which are ££ and not superior IMO. They used to be everywhere?

I can make my own but It's never been worth it before as they were less than £1 a packet.

Is this the case where you live, or with anything other mainstream/commonplace products?

I've definitely noticed this. Jacobs cream crackers were always available but haven't seen any in multiple supermarkets for weeks. Even at Christmas the section for crackers was much reduced and now they all seem to be gone.

Needmorelego · 17/01/2023 12:07

Iceland always seem to have plenty of crackers and cracker like snacks.

Patienceisntvirtuous · 17/01/2023 12:10

Thank you! We don't have an Iceland nearby but I will see where the nearest one is. They're a staple in this house.

I had this very problem last week! Forgot to ask dh to get them when he was in Aldi (they have had them since, no issues there) - Asda had nothing on their cracker shelves apart from ryvita. And own brand anything has vanished. I then went to 3 different places that would normally sell crackers- and got some from poundstretcher, of all places.
( not usually desperate for crackersGrin, but ds was unwell and was one of the only things he could eat)

LottieLizzie · 17/01/2023 12:12

Yes, there were strikes at the cracker factory in November/December so they are in short supply! I can usually manage to get them in Aldi but not Sainsbury's, Morrisons or Asda. (I have a small child who LOVES crackers so I feel I know too much about this situation currently!!)

NewYearNewName2023 · 17/01/2023 12:13

I think there is long running industrial action at the Jacobs factory which has affect supply

LordSugarTits · 17/01/2023 12:14

You can make your own?!

fudgecat · 17/01/2023 12:16

Got some the other day and I'm sure they have changed.... Tasted very bland

Hbh17 · 17/01/2023 12:16

There was a strike, but Jacobs have been back in Tesco since New Year.

Iliveditwizbit · 17/01/2023 12:17

Life is Deffo too short to make your own cream crackers

inappropriateraspberry · 17/01/2023 12:17

I've noticed Lidl haven't had their own brand in since before Xmas. Shows how they're all made in the same factory.

Bytrgrewd · 17/01/2023 12:19

Yes!

pattihews · 17/01/2023 12:19

Yes, I had to fork out £1.50 for a packet of Jacobs the other day because there were no alternatives. Don't touch them myself but my partner has two with a sliver of cheese and usually a glass of wine at 6pm. Creature of habit: oatcakes won't do.

ODFOx · 17/01/2023 12:19

While missing the cream crackers, I am delighted that melba toast is back at our Tesco. They haven't stocked them for ages.
Every cloud has a silver lining!

I picked some up in our Lidl over the weekend. Eggs (still - haven’t had them in for yonks) and Toilet Roll were none existent though

Greydogs123 · 17/01/2023 12:22

Got loads of cream crackers in my local Tesco in Devon. What I’ve not been able to get are the Cornish wafers, which
my dd loves, - last time they had them in was Christmas!

inappropriateraspberry · 17/01/2023 12:24

@HaddawayAndShite
We have eggs and loo roll! Eggs are limited to 2 boxes though.

ChickenGotLegs · 17/01/2023 12:26

I noticed this too, could only see Jacobs which I don't like. I thought it was just my local Morrisons 🤦🏻‍♀️

Millionaireshortbread0 · 17/01/2023 12:27

Tesco have some in today first time in months. 40p a packet compared to jacobs £1.50. Dd eats 4 a day so was costing me a fortune and wasn't happy as she has asd ended up taking them out the packet before she saw but she knew the difference!
A couple of months ago I managed to get some in home bargains.

AdoraBell · 17/01/2023 12:29

Haven’t looked for them but on my supermarket delivery they were substituted with own brand option.

OP are they easy to make? I’ve never tried.

Raahh · 17/01/2023 12:29

Well, a Jacobs strike explains why I can't find twiglets- another ds 'thing'. Grin- Over Christmas we had the seasonal tubs that come out, but normal bags of twiglets are absent from my local Asda and Sainsbury's (though I did get 2 of the tubs reduced to 20p,Grin from Sainsbury's- the last of their Christmas stock).

WoooahNelly · 17/01/2023 12:34

I had to begrudgingly pay £1.50 yesterday for Jacobs as have been putting off buying them for weeks as no own brand.

JellyBeanFactory · 17/01/2023 12:37

LordSugarTits · 17/01/2023 12:14

You can make your own?!

That's what I want to know! OP - how?

In waitrose okehampton yesterday that was the only crackers they had of Jacobs. I would say that jacibs must also make supermarket own brand cream crackers too as there have been none of those for a while either

I used to use this recipe but I've adapted it now-it is a good one though.

They are easy to make-not so easy to make neat though!
Yes the Jacobs strikes makes sense. I will have to make a batch won't I until they get what they want (hopefully)!
