Heinz tomato soup

First World problems and all that. But has Heinz soup changed recipe? I know it's a ridiculous price now, but it is my comfort food with a cheese toastie when I'm low.
I'm sat here with a mug of it and I can't finish it, it's so sweet😥

Does Campbells taste like Heinz used to?

I’ve not had it for years. I buy Aldis. 55p a tin.

I buy the low sugar version. It's not as sweet.

NoLongerATeacher · 15/01/2023 18:15

No it’s a lot thinner but I prefer it.

makingarunforit · 15/01/2023 18:16

I don't know but Waitrose tinned tomato soup is lovely and cheaper than Heinz.

canina · 15/01/2023 18:16

It tastes of artificial sweetner noe - I can't stomach it Sad

catskittens · 15/01/2023 18:18

yes in a taste test Aldi came top and like Heinz for about 47p

The no added sugar version just replaces the sugar with sweetener, so it's not any better.

Maybe so, but I quite like it.

That's odd because it doesn't contain any artificial sweeteners. Even the no added sugar version doesn't.

SiobhanSharpe · 15/01/2023 18:22

Far too sweet -- it has nearly 20 grams of sugar in a 400 g can. That's about 4 teaspoons and not much under an ounce (28 g to an ounce).
I find it very sweet - and I used to love it. 😥

The no added sugar one definitely does - it contains steviol.

Which is a natural sweetener..

AreOttersJustWetCats · 15/01/2023 18:25

Same with Heinz baked beans BTW - the no added sugar version is just full of sweetener instead. Rank.

whitesnowflake · 15/01/2023 18:26

My favourite comfort food too OP! I've not enjoyed Heinz tomato soup for years now, and have been buying Aldi which I think tastes much better. Last time in Aldi couldn't get their own brand so had to buy Heinz and I'm not really enjoying it. I also liked Heinz organic tomato soup but local supermarkets haven't had it in stock since the pandemic.

AreOttersJustWetCats · 15/01/2023 18:29

Natural or not - the sweetness is still unpleasant.

Buzzer3555 · 15/01/2023 18:30

Another vote for the Aldi one. Much cheaper and tastes better

Moomoomeemee · 15/01/2023 18:30

Oh no FFS. We had some recently and I didn't love it. Neither did DD. Absolute assholes. I hate sweetener

dontgobaconmyheart · 15/01/2023 18:32

I've not tried it in years so couldn't reasonably weigh in but I get the Sainsbury's equivalent occasionally and remember back when I first tried it thinking I couldn't tell the difference. It's 54p a tin I think, or thereabouts, slightly cheaper for the pack of 4.

ByTheGrace · 15/01/2023 18:33

We don't live near an Aldi unfortunately, I might pick up a can to try, next time I'm travelling.
When I was little, my Mum would make it with a knob of butter and another tsp of sugar!

The only heinz I buy occasionally now is ketchup. I dont know what they have done to their products but they all taste wrong.
Tomato soup with buttered white bread dipped in was my go to when ill. Gutted that it tastes different now.

There's no sweetener in the ordinary tomato soup. They have separate no sugar version.

OP posts:
NewBootsAndRanty · 15/01/2023 18:36

I can't find anything suggesting that any sweetener other than sugar is in the "normal" heinz tomato soup recipe, sounds like they've just fucked about with the levels.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 15/01/2023 18:36

My son eats it everyday (he's autistic) so it can't have changed that much or he would have been the first to notice 🤣
