On my own, nursing a glass of wine while I wait for the kids to finish an activity.

It's bloody lovely, time for me to scroll mn and not think about anything else and £2.99 for a glass of wine. I had to double check he had the right price at the bar.

Lots of people on their own too.

Lovely Spoons in Warwick market Sq. In the summer the outside tables are in the sun .

VonWeasel · 14/01/2023 18:30

For some reason I thought this initially was a post saying "I'm in Wetherspoons AMA" which made me chuckle! Apparently they have a different pattern on the carpet in every pub. Interesting fact. That's not interesting. Might not even be a fact 😂Sure I read it somewhere though! 🤔

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 14/01/2023 18:30

There's one going into the next town along. Some of locals are up in arms (it's a rather naice market town) but I am really looking forward to it opening! I go to that town to get my haircut so now I can combine it with a spoons lunch. Hurrah!

Benjispruce4 · 14/01/2023 18:30

DH likes the one upstairs in Shepherds Bush Green. Great view over the hustle and bustle and a cheap burger and pint before QPR matches.

MrsMitford3 · 14/01/2023 18:32

We have two in my town-referred to by my DC as "Posh Spoons" and "Shit Spoons" sadly Shit Spoons closing to make way for flats

I think spoons is great value - however….

We were visiting family and decided to go to Middlesbrough to do some Christmas shopping with the kids.

NEVER in my life have I ever been anywhere like this one. At 4.30pm full of drunks of all ages. There must have been hundreds of glasses on this huge bar but not enough staff to sort and clean them. The building you could tell had the potential to be amazing, but it was totally filthy. No tables had been wiped.

Looking back we should have walked straight back out. We asked a member of staff very politely if they could possibly wipe the table, were told yes. They didn’t return. Waited a good while and asked someone else, we apologised as they were busy but we had asked before etc. Her response was, ‘Ah did you, it will have been xyz you asked, he’s such a cock, proper pissed me off and gets on everyone’s tits’. My kids mouths dropped as did mine. At this point we had ordered so had to stay. Felt very uneasy the whole time we were there.

Food came and it was bad, totally rushed, looked thrown together. I got chicken cesear salad. When it arrived I asked if I could have some dressing, was told no we ran out. Great bowl of dry chicken and lettuce.

As one of the kids were finishing their pizza we noticed blue , yep, a flipping plaster!!!

Every other spoons I have visited have been fantastic, this one was terrible.

Benjispruce4 · 14/01/2023 18:52

Sounds terrible @Workinghardeveryday

Stomacharmeleon · 14/01/2023 18:55

@TwoMonthsOff that's our local :)

AnotherNameChangeYes · 14/01/2023 18:55

My DM meets her friends for coffee in Spoons.

My Spoons experiences (when I was younger) was where we used to go as the wine was cheap at the start of the night. Good times.

Stomacharmeleon · 14/01/2023 18:55

@StripeysMum that's not true. They were furloughed.

TwoMonthsOff · 14/01/2023 18:58

@Stomacharmeleon
it looks lovely I believe millions to restore - stunning views has it been open in the summer yet I imagine it’s fantastic outside

VonWeasel · 14/01/2023 19:00

@TwoMonthsOff Yes! Fabulous location. Went for breakfast but would love to return in summer to sit outside on the roof terrace. It's right on the beach.

Someone wrote book about the carpets - dh got it me years ago. Grin.I loved it so much I got it my dad for Fathers' day that year ! It's actually quite interesting. Now, I always checkout the carpets when I go in a different one Grin.

BewilderedPiskie · 14/01/2023 19:00

The Caley Picture House Spoons (I think that's it ?!?) in Edinburgh is an architectural delight. Our son's at Uni nearby and I love that we can go and treat him and his flatmates to an evening out somewhere lovely and feel like big cheeses for the cost of us going out as a couple it usually!

2chocolateoranges · 14/01/2023 19:02

Weatherspoons is the last pub I’ll go into. Our local one I had the worst staff with the worst attitudes. And the food is rotten too. Not been in for years.

TwoMonthsOff · 14/01/2023 19:03

@VonWeasel
just looked at the photographs day and night. Really nice, and there’s a lot about the history of the building on the link, going to have a read, so great that it wasn’t demolished as it is very grand (possibly was listed though )

Devilou666 · 14/01/2023 19:07

Thank you @multivac for mentioning that,all I can recall is the numerous threads on hear at the beginning of lockdown of how everyone was going to boycott spoons after pandemic for the shit way he treated all the staff.

LordSugarTits · 14/01/2023 19:09

I've not been in since the pandemic either but the nearest one to me is a bit shit.

Now this is more of the usual MN view about Wetherspoons 🤣🤣

Can't beat them for value though - been for breakfast this morning.

Scotty2hotty · 14/01/2023 19:30

Wethers is awesome, i always order a burger or mixed grill and customise it on the app. I don't bother with most things because they are microwave meal.

Don't listen to the ignoramuses that speak negatively about Tim. He's like many disliked people - Plebs/The media propagate crap and unfortunately it sticks.

Do you own objective research and come to your own conclusions.

XenoBitch · 14/01/2023 19:34

I love a Spoons. Cheap n cheerful food (although I hate the plates), and cheap booze too. Great for the beer festivals if you are into that. The bottomless tea/coffee is great too. I used to spend hours drinking tea and drawing in my local one.
I also like that you can order drinks for mates that are in a Spoons from the comfort of your home. Fab for a birthday bash that you can't make.

Reluctantadult · 14/01/2023 19:36

The spoons in my town is in a beautiful Tudor building with a garden onto the river... We love it. Shame the owner is a cock!

AllOfThemWitches · 14/01/2023 19:37

It's not 'awesome' though, is it? It's a cheap, shit chain pub.
