Agh sent too early - for being so resolute and strong after having such tough days

Els1e · 27/01/2023 07:40

I’m still hanging on too. Like others had a bit of the doldrums earlier this week but that could be the January blues. Well done to all of us at dealing with the wine witch.

pointythings · 27/01/2023 08:02

Some of you are really going through it this week! But knowing your triggers is incredibly powerful.

cashmerecardigans · 27/01/2023 08:12

Well done to everyone who was struggling last night but stayed strong. It feels like we're really on the home straight now.
I didn't sleep so well last night, but even so, I have far more energy this morning than if I'd slept badly after wine, which often happened anyway

pointythings · 27/01/2023 09:35

I slept like a log but got up early because DD2 has a hospital appointment in her uni city and wants a bit of moral support. Coffee tasted extra good this morning for some reason.

Greatly · 27/01/2023 09:38

I feel good this morning, slept well, was up and out doing the horses by 6.30, drove dd to school early.

The last of the alcohol free Guinness tonight- that's something I'll definitely buy again, it's really good. A bit carby though but needs must if the devil drives, as my gran used to say.

pointythings · 27/01/2023 09:51

I need to try the alcohol free Guinness, it's something I can see really working even if I'm not doing DJ because it isn't sweet!

Meanwhile in other news, DD2 is going to be investigated for Cushings, which would be treatable so I'm seeing that as good news.

Johnduttonsbuttocks · 27/01/2023 10:08

This weekend is going to be tough, I think. Feels a bit like, "what's the point?". But as my partner is staying strong, so must I.

Spirini · 27/01/2023 10:33

I had the 00 Guinness at a party I was at in the new year, it's lovely, I completely agree @Greatly.

Keep going everyone, the home stretch - woo! I'm also still in the clean eating mindset; had coffee out with some school mums this morning and didn't buy a pastry.

Greatly · 27/01/2023 11:21

Good luck everyone- just one more weekend.

Dd is really invested in me doing dry January ‐ she was disappointed and hugely judgemental that I had a sherry with her poor grieving grandmother 🙄

freshstart2023 · 27/01/2023 13:25

We’re just over 85% of the way there now. Impressive!

KatieKline · 27/01/2023 13:29

Full disclosure everyone, had 2 medium glasses of red last night, it was our 22 year anniversary of our first date and the date we always celebrate, as we only got married 8 years ago. We had a little celebration. I wasn't even craving wine, and just had the 2 medium glasses rather than the 4 large glasses I would have had previously.

Special occasions and the odd day at a weekend will be my reason for drinking moving forward.

Back on it today for another week.

Keep going everyone.

Hedjwitch · 27/01/2023 13:34

Gosh well done Alexandra! An entire wedding with free booze!

Getting fed up with AF beers but can really see the benefits. Bought a bright bunch of daffodils to cheer me up and just having some rosehip tea with some of last year's hips.

pointythings · 27/01/2023 13:38

@KatieKline special occasions matter. I don't normally drink during the week, but one of my exceptions is if the 16th of November falls on a non drinking day because it's the anniversary of my father's death. I always have a small single malt whisky on that day and toast him because that was his favourite thing.

KatieKline · 27/01/2023 14:04

Ahhh @pointythings much love to you 💐

Thank you, agree completely, its the special occasions that make life worth living whilst we are here.

Stickywhitelovepiss · 27/01/2023 15:15

I'm doing Dry Feb so not feeling de-mob happy as yet. Am hoping some of the benefits might start to materialise given another 30 days...

RedxRobin · 27/01/2023 16:22

Delurking to say I’m currently on day 25. I’ve been on a work trip for the past week and managed to make it through various work do’s without drinking alcohol & was surprised that to realise I didn’t even miss it!
I met up with some old uni friends whilst I was away & found out that a mutual friend very likely died of alcohol related problems last year which is incredibly tragic. She was in her early 40s so I have been thinking a lot about her and my own attitudes to drinking.

Johnduttonsbuttocks · 27/01/2023 18:54

I've dropped out. Stressful week, red meat, bottle opened. Good luck everyone else going through to the bitter end. ✊

TartanTed · 27/01/2023 19:28

Day 27 for me. I know if I get through this evening I'll make it as I'm driving tomorrow evening and I don't really drink sun- wed anyway. But OMG I would kill for a chilled glass of dry white right now.

I've done dry Jan the last two years and both times I've caved at the final weekend so I really want to prove to myself I can do it. So close!

Well done everyone- really enjoying hearing how you're all getting on.

freshstart2023 · 27/01/2023 19:47

Just checking in. I’ve been stressing all day about money because our washing machine/tumble dryer has finally broken irreparably. It’s a lot of money to shell out for a new one, which thankfully I have saved due to not drinking this month. I was hoping to spend some of what I’d saved on some treats for myself though (I desperately need a few new clothes for one thing) but alas that won’t be happening now. If I’d been drinking we’d be in a far worse position financially, but I still can’t help feeling annoyed about it.

Strangely, stressing about money has taken my mind off alcohol until now, so I’ve found today relatively easy, despite feeling quite low about the money situation.

I’m really looking forward to getting to the end of the month though now and starting the next chapter (moderation).

pointythings · 27/01/2023 20:01

@Johnduttonsbuttocks we all have to do what is necessary, and you have still had a hell of a lot less alcohol this month than you would otherwise have done. I hope next week is better for you.

freshstart2023 · 27/01/2023 20:08

Also, just looking at my calendar I realised this Sunday will be the 5th one this month, but there are only 4 Saturdays thankfully.

I'm teetering. I'm in it for a long term change in habits not to be teetotal. We'll see, not caved yet.

freshstart2023 · 27/01/2023 21:23

Safely tucked up in bed here after a nice hot bath. Friday nights are certainly not what they used to be, but I’ll be happy to wake up tomorrow feeling fresh.

It’s fantastic to think that if we get through tomorrow, we’ll have done 4 whole weeks.
