Thank you kindly Pointy. I will!
I agree, fever tree tonics are sweeter, I actually prefer schweppes slimline tonic, less sweet.

freshstart2023 · 14/01/2023 14:54

I agree that it's so hard not to reach for the red wine when it's so cold and gloomy outside. I know there's always a "reason" to drink, but I do think it's particularly tough when it's such miserable weather.

PermanentTemporary · 14/01/2023 14:58

Ooh that looks good @pointythings.

No @Oblomov22 I'd say it was a low key but adult taste, not too sweet.

pointythings · 14/01/2023 14:59

You're welcome! I can't stand the Schweppes slimline, it tastes really artificial to me. Weirdly I get on well with Tesco own brand (not the diet version).

Happy birthday @Hedjwitch

I am tidying teen DDS bedroom whilst sue is at her dad's. I know I shouldn't or shouldn't have to but she is happy to live with this mess. It really bothers me! Audiobook on and a packet of werthers originals I found under the bed are keeping me going!

Yes I have managed a couple of nights having drinks in the pub with friends but I think I would struggle with a party or larger gathering at the moment.

My friend and I are going to be upstairs at her DDs 16th tonight. No planning on getting involved unless we have to. We'll sit upstairs (me with a couple of AF beers. Her wine) and the plan is to watch TV. Let's see. My own DD not happy about me being there obviously. I have a feeling our night might not be as calm as we are hoping but let's see.

Great to see so many positive posts on here Smile

MeinKraft · 14/01/2023 16:35

Happy birthday @Hedjwitch!

Hedjwitch · 14/01/2023 16:40

Thank you all very much

Fuwari · 14/01/2023 17:21

Happy Birthday @Hedjwitch 🎂
I luckily don't have any social events, but don't go to many anyway! I would still struggle with everyone drinking around me. Some of the people I know drink a lot as well. The kind of nights where rounds of shots come out and you forget how you got home! I actually don't miss that. I took some real risks when I was that drunk and I was just lucky nothing bad happened. Again it's not something I ever want to go back to.

Champagneforeveryone · 14/01/2023 17:32

Good luck lemons!

We're past that stage now but at one point we were the destination of choice for DS and his friends as we lived rurally and there were no neighbours to disturb. We would come down in the morning and it looked like a Viking battle scene with bodies draped all over the house 😆

Stickywhitelovepiss · 14/01/2023 17:57

Still standing here.

Was listening to an interview with David Nutt earlier, where he said that the brain is a highly efficient organ, and will try to render any repeat action habitual - which really 'clicked' with me.

I wish my brain was as good at making exercise habitual as it is wine!

FlightDeckBuckarooo · 14/01/2023 18:25

Happy Birthday @Hedjwitch!

cashmerecardigans · 14/01/2023 19:46

I'm on raspberry lemonade, which is rather nice but I'm wishing I'd not started reading the thread asking when people drink champagne. It's given me a bit of a craving

Hedjwitch · 14/01/2023 19:52

Dry birthday. Very dull but tucked up in bed with one of my new books.

FlyingPandas · 14/01/2023 20:06

I too wish I could train my brain to make exercise habitual @Stickywhitelovepiss !

I'm finding tonight much tougher than last night and really really want a glass of wine. It doesn't feel like Saturday night without it. I've lined up a diet coke and a glass of orange squash to drink whilst I watch The Masked Singer with DH and DS3. Planning on a hot chocolate later. A nightly hot chocolate is becoming another habit! DS1 is still at home (doesn't go back to uni till next weekend) and working on an assignment and is also mainlining the hot chocolate so we're getting through bucketloads of it Grin

Stickywhitelovepiss · 14/01/2023 20:12

@FlyingPandas I really like the Options Belgian hot chocolate - very low calories but doesn't taste like it.

FlyingPandas · 14/01/2023 20:14

I'll have to try that one - we have the Cadbury's stuff and I daren't even check the calories!

Stickywhitelovepiss · 14/01/2023 20:18

@FlyingPandas there is no contest! Options all the way :)

OneFrenchEgg · 14/01/2023 20:33

Just back from the cinema, and managed a tango ice blast instead of my usual wine!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/01/2023 21:24

Day seven for me - late starter - and I had a box of Brewdog AF beers in the Sainsbury’s shop which I am excited to try one of later. Hope everyone is having a nice Saturday.

freshstart2023 · 14/01/2023 21:52

I'm back from my social event. I managed not to drink, but couldn't help thinking that I didn't have as good a time as I would have done if I'd had a few glasses of wine. Not drinking does put me off going out if I'm honest - sorry to sound negative, but it's just not half as fun when everyone else is having a few drinks and you're stone cold sober. I am really proud that I managed to stick to DJ though and I know I'll be thankful tomorrow that I didn't crack, but it really wasn't easy.

Oblomov22 · 14/01/2023 22:01

I seriously struggled tonight, nearly poured myself a glass of red. Instead I went to bed early. Odd, unpleasant feeling.

AngryGoblin · 14/01/2023 22:50

Well done to everyone who resisted, me too. Day 12 here and I’m pleased with that.

Cherrymix · 14/01/2023 23:26

Back from cinema. Drinking a cup of tea.

My sleep has gone to pot. Felt super tired yesterday. Then couldn't go to sleep. Then stayed in bed until about midday.

I feel tired, headachy and a bit rubbish but am not ill. What is going on 🙁

Am hoping for better sleep tonight followed by bright eyed bushy tailed tomorrow.

DH bought a bottle of red wine yesterday and I have to admit to having a tiny swig this evening but nipped that in the bud.

I'm fed up of watching films and TV where everyone is constantly drinking large glasses of wine. According to NHS App I am in a minority and a large % of the population drink less than me. But that isn't what I see on TV & films - they are forever cracking open bottles of wine whenever they get home from work. Gah!

SeasonsBleatings · 14/01/2023 23:27

Really wonderful hearing of some great progress made when so many of us typically drink at the weekend. Day 15 for me! Dinner with DH and friends was fine. They all had 4-5 drinks each and I really wasn't bothered. Will be so pleased to wake up feeling fresh tomorrow!

MeinKraft · 15/01/2023 00:54

Day 14 done. I can't sleep a wink tonight despite having been up at 6 with the baby as usual. My throat is red and sore and I've got an awful headache and some red spots on my tongue Confused something is brewing I guess!
