I need an owl.

Just a small, pint-sized owl.

It could perch on things, fly around the house, enjoy the garden on summer days.

I could stroke it when I’m stressed. And he could sleep on my headboard.

Is this unrealistic?

I don’t want a gigantic one with a massive wingspan. Just a small (smaller than a pigeon) sized owl.

Just wondering if my home and lifestyle are suitable for such a pet…

Oh I would love an owl too, OP. Just a little one that could sleep in my pocket.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/01/2023 22:32

Nice idea but don’t be daft.

CrazyBiscuits · 09/01/2023 22:34

I will never think of owls in the same way again after the legs photo! To think that all this I have thought that they have small legs when all along theyve been hiding those long ones. Its so weird......

UrsulaPandress · 09/01/2023 22:35

Where is Stratters and Mortimer when you need her?

GlassBunion · 09/01/2023 22:35

Daft.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 09/01/2023 22:36

This guy is pleasing to the eyes. This is the kind of chonk I appreciate.

Please just get out more.

Remember they are nocturnal. We have a noisy one in our vicinity and it keeps DD awake:

I need an owl.

Those owl legs! Who knew?

Owls in pet format featured on Dinnerladies, Stan thought about getting one as a Christmas present for Bobbie the nurse, when he was going out with her.

Stan - I wanted to steer clear or perfume, talcum powder, feminity things and the like. So I thought of getting her a workbench. Folding. Four by two.

Bren - Does she do much woodwork?

Stan - She's never had the chance. Or alternatively, I thought of getting her an owl.

Bren - A real one???

Stan - Mmm. I know someone who's fed up with theirs.

I have a one legged (and, I have to say, over amorous bordering on sex pest) wood pigeon regularly visiting my garden.

He is quite the ladies man, although I haven’t checked his (singular) leg length or knee location.

Get a silkie chicken. Small, fluffy, cuddly, cute quiet as long as you get a hen and you can get nappies for them. Bonus, they lay delicious eggs!

Absolutely no neck to speak of, ideal.

Too much leg on show for OP I fear.

I'd like a raven, like Arabella.

Luckingfovely · 09/01/2023 22:50

I'm slightly obsessed with the Shoebill Stork at the moment. I imagine living with one would be quite challenging though.

In my head, this is me (couldn’t be further from reality, but anyway..)

I need an owl.

It's cruel to keep a wild creature like that, tethered .

It wings for a reason.

Keeping a wild creature tethered or in a cage is smilar to clipping its wings..

bravelittletiger · 09/01/2023 22:52

@Luckingfovely is it's face supposed to look like that?

You wouldn't want to wake up in the middle of the night and spot him staring at you from the foot of your bed that's for sure.

romdowa · 09/01/2023 22:53

I have a fascination with hawks and birds of prey. I often see large ones in the country side around us just sat in electricity poles. They just look so graceful and powerful. Obviously I'd never own one but I like to look at them.

bravelittletiger · 09/01/2023 22:53

@Vinotinto78 an elegant and casual look suitable for home working and relaxed Netflix binging.

Well no because the OPs pet owl will willingly just sit on her shoulder all day keeping her ear warm because it will be her helpful owl friend.

An owl is a wild animal and should be allowed to live a natural life. Pet ownership of wild animals needs to be banned. Pronto.

Many owls in captivity are wild ones which were injured and have been rescued, and although they have recovered reasonably well, they wouldn't be able to survive in the wild.

What do you suggest regarding those ones? Euthanasia, or let them go so they can die of starvation in the wild?

Crazymadchickenlady · 09/01/2023 22:56

I have silkies and pekin bantam hens. They are both round and fluffy. Get chickens they are great (though not allowed out at the moment!
