Concert on my own?

Has anyone done this? There is a band I really want to see and there is 1 ticket on resale. Unfortunately I find myself with not many friends at 43 and a young family. Should I book it and go? I'm not bothered about being on my own really.

Yes of course you should!

Duchess379 · 04/01/2023 20:08

I went and saw Robbie Williams at Milton Keynes on my own & got 'adopted' by a group of other people, I had a great night! x

HumptyNumpty76 · 04/01/2023 20:09

Do it! I used to go to gigs all the time by myself (can't afford it now) and loved it! Used to travel a fair bit too, for a band or singer I really liked including travelling abroad.

I went to a concert on my own when a friend was ill on the day. I was really nervous in the queue to go in but it was fine when I got in and no one looked twice. I got myself a drink and just blended in with the crowd.

I did it for 25 years, OP, 40-65. It's more fun than going with other people.

LlynTegid · 04/01/2023 20:13

Yes, plenty of times. Not everyone shares my taste in music and I don't want to drag someone along to something they won't enjoy.

Haha this made me laugh. I feel this way too. No one to bother about, I enjoy my own company and like a PP said I'll probably end up getting adopted. Thanks people. I think I might just do it!

I really wanted to see the singer Mika last July, but I chickened out as I would have had to go on my own as no one I know is into him like I am. I bitterly regret it now as he seems amazing live. So when he tours again, I'll be there, no matter how self conscious I feel as I'm so envious of everyone who has seen him live. Go for it and enjoy 😊

What is wrong with some folk...Mika is amazing!

I'm thinking I just do it. Knowing my luck I'll go back on to the site and it will be gone. You have all gave me the confidence to go. Like you say I'll probably just get myself a drink and make my way down the front (cause I'm on my own and can do what I want) and go a bit crazy!🤣

You are most likely correct! I hate suiting other people sometimes

@Mostlygrumpy Exactly 😁 My friends have no taste.

That's exactly how I feel. Often have a better time on my own as don't need to worry if someone else is enjoying themselves.

NeverGonnaNot · 04/01/2023 20:23

It’s actually one of those things that is really easy to do on your own as everybody is just out for a good time and concentrating on the music.

OlleOskiFelle · 04/01/2023 20:25

Went to 10 on my own last year, including travelling round the country, currently have 8 booked for this year.
4 more I'm going with friends but they're friends I met at other gigs.

Absolutely do it.

This. I've seen a number of bands on my own, always had a good time.

DH is going to see a band in a couple of weeks, and he was planning on going on his own. His DSis insisted she went with him so he didn't get lonely and now he's worried she's just going to chat through the gig 😂

Similar situation, DH and I go to festivals and have different tastes, so go separately to some and together to other acts.
Never felt uncomfortable.
Time to book a festival OP!

Mostlygrumpy · 04/01/2023 20:42

On another note, I messaged my "one" friend and said hey do you fancy this? Actually not the concert I was referring to. Another one I thought she might enjoy. She said we need to look for something more for ladies in their 40's. I'm sorry but fuck that. I decided in the new year the rest of my 40's were going to be about me doing things I enjoy. Maybe only once a month but I need it

This highlights why going on your own is a plan.

Everyone there is there for the same reason and usually you will find someone to talk to.

Some if my best gigs have been on my own.

Mostlygrumpy · 04/01/2023 20:59

Booked it! I'm so excited now. Thanks so much for your encouragement. I have been saying to myself that 2023 will be the year that I actually do what I want to do. So thank you for helping me make the jump in the right direction. Is there anything you want to do this year, that you might be holding back on? Maybe we could motivate each other. I also want to go to a yoga class.

I couldn't do it - I'd feel like I was missing out sharing the experience with someone. But I do a lot of other stuff on my own. But you should definitely do it, I admire people that do things like this on their own.

That is very true, I can just blend in and go with the flow. Thanks

Maybe I will feel a bit weird at parts, so I know what you mean. But what's worse is seeing someone you love with someone else who couldn't care less or enjoy the songs and atmosphere. I'll be with people who think he's as fantastic as I do.
