Concert on my own?

Mostlygrumpy · 04/01/2023 20:01

Has anyone done this? There is a band I really want to see and there is 1 ticket on resale. Unfortunately I find myself with not many friends at 43 and a young family. Should I book it and go? I'm not bothered about being on my own really.

Anyone else curious as to who you have brought tickets to?

Enjoy the concert!

Fahrted · 04/01/2023 22:09

Well done, @Mostlygrumpy. I have done a lot of stuff on my own due to moving countries. It feels weird at first, but in some ways it's even better than going with someone else as you can just enjoy it for what it is, without thinking about anyone else.

Chupney · 04/01/2023 22:09

Do it! I'm 43 and did it for the first time last year. Stood at the front and had an absolutely amazing time. Zero regrets.

I'm going to see dropkick Murphys in a couple of weeks and then Barrioke (with Barry from Eastenders) Grin

Veryverycalmnow · 04/01/2023 22:28

Absolutely. When Igor to a gig it's to hear the band, I hate it when people use it as a chance to catch up and shout a conversation through the set. If nobody I know wants to see a band I'm into I'll go on my own and watch. This shouldn't be a taboo thing, but I do sometimes feel a bit insecure on my own, because I'm over- thinking it.
Go and enjoy it!

moggerhanger · 04/01/2023 22:48

I do this. None of my friends are into the same kind of music (noisy/heavy stuff) so I go by myself. It does make me chuckle though - at a Bury Tomorrow gig i reckon I increased the average age by about 10 years.

On another note, I messaged my "one" friend and said hey do you fancy this? Actually not the concert I was referring to. Another one I thought she might enjoy. She said we need to look for something more for ladies in their 40's. I'm sorry but fuck that. I decided in the new year the rest of my 40's were going to be about me doing things I enjoy. Maybe only once a month but I need it

I'm a "lady in my 40's", I see every boyband going, I love them all.
I saw 7 last year, plus two ex boyband members.
There's no age limit.

You should totally go.

I’m thinking of going to a gig alone in Brixton as a 40 something woman when I travel to London soon.

I was desperate to do that last year but couldn't get a ticket, travelling from Glasgow too.
I did go to London twice though on my own.

ohfook · 06/01/2023 11:40

I often do it. I came to the same realisation as you that it was a case of go on my own or don't go at all.

It's fine. I usually get there fairly late so I'm not waiting around for it to start and have a large soft drink for something to do with my hands. I often think there should be an app to connect people who all want to go to the same gig but have no one to go with.

I really wanted to see the singer Mika last July, but I chickened out as I would have had to go on my own as no one I know is into him like I am. I bitterly regret it now as he seems amazing live. So when he tours again, I'll be there, no matter how self conscious I feel as I'm so envious of everyone who has seen him live. Go for it and enjoy 😊

I'll go with you, I'd love to see him!

awakenme · 06/01/2023 12:01

Do it. I recently went to a gig on my own when friends pulled out at the last minute and I had the best time. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again for a band I wanted to see.

Can I come too, I love him.

Bonjovispyjamas · 06/01/2023 12:03

@pinkyredrose I'd definitely be up for that 😊 I can barely bring myself to watch any videos of his concerts last year as I'm so jealous 🤣 It would be an amazing experience, he gets down into the crowd and brings people up on stage, not to mention being a little ball of energy, gutted that I missed it because i was too scared to go on my own 😢

Bonjovispyjamas · 06/01/2023 12:05

@OlleOskiFelle Of course, sounds like a plan 😁

Nanny67 · 06/01/2023 12:05

Yes! I'm 56 and going to see Sam Smith on my own lol.

I hope it’s a good night 😁 Coming all the way from Australia and have been to London a few times before so trying some new things this trip. Thought going to Brixton, seeing a band and having some jerk chicken or similar Carribean food would be a fun new thing to do. I’ve also applied for tickets to watch a Graham Norton Show taping. Can’t wait.

Mischance · 06/01/2023 12:12

I always went to concerts on my own as OH had panic attacks at them.
