Concert on my own?

Mostlygrumpy · 04/01/2023 20:01

Has anyone done this? There is a band I really want to see and there is 1 ticket on resale. Unfortunately I find myself with not many friends at 43 and a young family. Should I book it and go? I'm not bothered about being on my own really.

Yay! Glad you got your ticket and I’m sure you will enjoy it. I’ve done it and would do it again!! I sometimes go to cinema on my own too. DH and DD don’t always want to see what I want to see

It’s actually one of those things that is really easy to do on your own as everybody is just out for a good time and concentrating on the music.

I agree with this. Been to a few on my own and really enjoyed them. I'd rather go alone than miss out

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 04/01/2023 21:20

I'm glad to read down the thread and find that you've bought the ticket - I bought a solo ticket for Queen w/Adam Lambert last year, and had a brilliant time on my own as I wasn't embarassing anyone by singing along 😁 I quite often go to theatre matinees on my own.

I do it and actually prefer going alone. I can just concentrate on the music and not worry about anyone else.
My concerts are sit down ones though and I can guarantee that when looking through the seating plan, there will be one seat left near or even at the front with my name on it.
Wish I’d done it years ago. I always said that I’d want to share the experience with someone too and that attitude stopped me doing loads of stuff over the years that I really wanted to do. Please yourself, you’ll be glad you did!

Isabelle70 · 04/01/2023 21:21

I went to the see the Killers by myself and had a great time.
I did have 2 tickets but sold the extra one on twickets so did have the purchaser sat next to me.

Whatacrocof · 04/01/2023 21:21

@Mostlygrumpy yay glad you have booked it! I have been to a few concerts on my own and met some new friends, one I still keep in touch with 10 years later. As for Yoga, go for it! I’m 46 abs started Yoga last summer. I was nervous at first but honestly nobody cares what the person next to them is doing. If it’s a difficult movement I just stay in child pose for a rest haha.

QueefQueen80s · 04/01/2023 21:22

I go half the time with someone and half the time by myself, both amazing experiences for different reasons! When I'm alone it's just me and the music. 🖤

On another note, I messaged my "one" friend and said hey do you fancy this? Actually not the concert I was referring to. Another one I thought she might enjoy. She said we need to look for something more for ladies in their 40's. I'm sorry but fuck that. I decided in the new year the rest of my 40's were going to be about me doing things I enjoy. Maybe only once a month but I need it

Yes fuck that! Gigs are for everyone!

Hohofortherobbers · 04/01/2023 21:24

I often go alone, but I always get a seat if I do, I wouldn't want to be in the mosh pit alone

KangarooKenny · 04/01/2023 21:25

I’ve been to gigs on my own, I always find someone to chat to !

God yes! If I ask friends they'll have to check their diary..... check with hubby...... can I get back to you nearer the time...... etc etc. Easier to just book and if they end up wanting to come they'll have to see if there are tickets left. Either way I'll get to see the show!

SpikeGilesSandwich · 04/01/2023 21:32

Definitely. I went to a whole festival on my own once, it was brilliant!

I went and saw Robbie Williams at Milton Keynes on my own & got 'adopted' by a group of other people, I had a great night! x

My friend and I 'adopted' someone on her own at a Sarah Millican show last year and had a great laugh with her.

Glad you've booked, OP. Enjoy!!

Ilovehamandtoast · 04/01/2023 21:40

I work in a concert hall. Do the thing. No one cares 💕

MadisonAvenue · 04/01/2023 21:40

You’ll be fine OP, I’ve been to quite a number of gigs on my own - I even flew alone to New York to see Billie Joe Armstrong in Green Day’s American Idiot on Broadway.

OnTheBoardwalk · 04/01/2023 21:43

Yes go and don’t go with someone who won’t really enjoy it. It will ruin it for you as you'll be more concerned about them rather than enjoying the concert

have the band got a Facebook page? They often have posts of where fans are going to meet up before the gig or if you want to be on your own just enjoy it

SlipperyLizard · 04/01/2023 21:45

I went to see the Senseless Things on my own when I was about 16, after my sister decided not to come.

It was fine, I had a great time - like others I’d rather go by myself than drag an unwilling friend/partner!

mrsfollowill · 04/01/2023 21:53

I dragged my DH along to a gig last year- I normally go with a friend who couldn't make it- to be fair he ended up really enjoying it- but had I been there on my own I would have been fine- we were surrounded by other fans! Loads of us were staying at the Premier Inn over the road so the party carried on in the bar there until late- plenty people on their own but we all had the same thing in common- enjoy yourself and have a blast.

SallyWD · 04/01/2023 21:59

I only go to concerts on my own! I prefer getting lost in the music and don't want to socialise whilst I'm there.

Woah a whole festival. That's amazing

Well done for booking! I love solo gig going. I've travelled round the country and abroad on my own for gigs, always end up chatting to someone and once the band comes on, I'm in my own world anyway.

HelterSkelter224 · 04/01/2023 22:06

Look up Solo Armada on FB, for solo gig go-ers

Thank you, I will. This is all making me feel so much better and actually excited now.

I go to gigs on my own all the time! Actually prefer it to going with someone else. Only have myself to be responsible for!

I had no idea this was a thing. Thanks so much. Hopefully others will have a look to who are in my situation
