Here's a couple of videos on sleep that some of you might find useful;

Interesting that some of you on HRT have found that it's cured your sleep problems.

Since being on HRT I've found that I go out like a light and for the first couple of hours my sleep tracker shows me in a really deep sleep. DP thinks it's hilarious that he can come into the bedroom, open and shut drawers and doors, crash around and I still don't stir!

....however, from 4am onwards I frequently wake up and that's it, I'm awake for the rest of the night/morning or just doze for a bit between 6-7am after 2+ hours of tossing and turning.

Magnesium Glycinate hasn’t helped me, nor has HRT. I get about two hours of sleep a night during term time, and it’s exhausting. I’m dead on my feet.

Melatonin might be a worth a try. While you can't buy it in shops in the UK you can get it from EU websites.

ShirleyValentin3 · 04/01/2023 09:01

I had 3 hours last night. Like a zombie today.

I know it's overthinking things and poor sleep hygiene, but in a bit of a cycle now.

Might give the Nytol a go!

HandbagsnGladrags · 04/01/2023 09:02

Last night I slept like a baby through a combo of melatonin and phenergan. Feel like a new woman.

slept last night but didn’t get off until 1am. Woke up at 8am. Felt like I had a hangover.

popped into Boots this afternoon and got some Nytol for tonight. Apparently they have sold loads recently

i am back to work on Friday- I have to be up and out for 6:45am so I need to get off to sleep early on Thursday night.

let’s hope ….

I can't get Nytol here in Oz- what's in it?

Ok I just spent too much on iHerb but needs must!

I had the wrong magnesium (Chelate) so have ordered Glycinate 350mg. Never tried it, worth a shot.

Also the melatonin I had some sort-off success with last time. That's the time-release 10mg big bastards.

And some lovely face cream etc (because ya know, online shopping when you're tired)!

To the person upthread- I have phenergan here too for my 6 y/o who weighs less than half what I do. Think I'd have to neck several bottles before it had any effect? You mean there's one for adults?

Best of luck all

I am in peri but can’t take hrt due to the amount of medication I’m on, it clashes badly 😭

I have terrible insomnia, always have but it’s chronic now since 2021.

coupled with nighttime anxiety and panic attacks I feel like a zombie most of the time.

my mum gives me sleeping pills occasionally when the doctor won’t which is rare they will anyway for addiction fears.
Hakf a tablet works wonders.

sominax/promethazine/phenergan also surprisingly works for me too. Except I now can’t take it because yep my meds clash.

I’m interested in the magnesium though, I might look into that.

you all have my utmost sympathy. Insomnia is a cow bag.

I resort to melatonin, make sure I’m off my phone (and not on Mumsnet) after 8pm ish. Bed between 10-11pm.
Read for half an hour.
I’m not zonked and get up at least twice due to nasal congestion but I would take a lower dose probably if I had little ones.
Wine helps me get to sleep but worsens congestion and I then wake about 3am until about 5:30am.
It’s so frustrating.
I think it’s probably about stressful lives and the insomnia makes us more stressed ie worried about oversleeping or underperforming.

I had a 3.5hr nap at 6pm. My brain now won’t fucking switch off.

Not helped by having to get up to sort myself out as my period has started.

3.5 hours is a bit mote than a nap! No wonder you can't sleep at bedtime.

Ah ok, thanks. Yes we've similar here!

There's even one at the chemist made from lavender oil. The staff smirked at me when I purchased. They were right- it does nothing other than give you nasty burps all night. Hmm, camphor belching from your stomach is sure to ensure some rest 🙄
