Been there when I was Perimenopausal and when I had Hyperthyroidism so can sympathise.

I recommend this podcast The Huberman Lab. Lots of evidence based ways to improve sleep he also has a very soporific voice. HRT sorted my Peri insomnia but have used his advice to sort insomnia more recently.

@mycatsanutter that's really useful, thanks. Glad they are helping. I have some kind of magnesium spray, but it's cold to spray on at bedtime, which wakes me up, and it doesn't seem to do much. Which is annoying, as it's quite expensive.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 03/01/2023 06:11

@ouch44 will give that a go. Thanks.

Well I've just turned my alarm off having not yet been to sleep....I have read an entire book, ordered some stuff I didn't need off amazon (think there should be an 'ordered at 3am and now have no idea why I thought I needed it' option in the returns section) , thought about doing some tidying but was too tired to get out if bed to do it.

Arse... Long day ahead for me too...

ColinRobinsonsFart · 03/01/2023 06:18

not slept at all
DH has gone to work and left me still awake in bed.

i have
eaten a sandwich
had a drink
been for a wee three times
watched the John Stonehouse series on ITVX
been on mumsnet
facebooked
played candy crush

i am on Day 15 of good old fashioned flu
and I am struggling with getting my sleep pattern back to normal. I am exhausted 24/7 and menopausal insomnia doesn’t help.
i don’t want to sleep now as I need to get back on track as I have my first lecture of the year to give on Friday!!!

I've just had a month of this. In the end I got an over the counter tablet called Sominax which I believe is a type of antihistamine but also a sleeping aid. I took it for 3 nights and touch wood it's fixed me. It helped me fall asleep and stay asleep and then after the 3 nights (you can take it for 4 before you need a break) I continued to sleep normally. The sleep deprivation was horrific.

Didiplanthis · 03/01/2023 06:39

Sominax works really well but I get awful hangover drowsiness with it and can't function till mid morning... which isn't great for school run with smalls including a drive and a would be school refuser !

mincepiesandi · 03/01/2023 06:43

Night Nurse is another good one which has helped me reset before now (but only for a few days and can also make you feel groggy early the next morning).

Same here, 45 and think peri menopause, fell asleep at 3.30am and awake again at 6.30amb😫 tried everything even prescription sleeping pills and so far nothing is working.

NancyJoan · 03/01/2023 06:53

I think I was awake every hour, then up for the day at 4am. Ugh.

Back to work anxiety, I think. I have started beta blockers and HRT in the last few weeks, which has made a huge difference to my sleep, but last night I clearly needed hitting on the head with a brick. I do keep hearing good things about magnesium.

Blueblell · 03/01/2023 07:01

For peri menopause sleep problems - the strong isoflavines you can buy in boots seem to help.

HandbagsnGladrags · 03/01/2023 07:02

Been awake since 4.30am with back to work dread. Thankfully I WFH so will pull comfy clothes on and battle through. Insomnia is a bitch.

Sunnycats · 03/01/2023 07:27

Hugs to all of you - I've been there in the past and it's horrific. I'm on HRT now which has sorted me out but I know how exhausting and awful it feels. I really hope you manage today ok and get some sleep soon. 😘

Was like this until the magic of HRT. I now actually sleep and dream again.

For those peri or full on menopause, get yourself off to the GP.

Being able to sleep has changed my life.

I'm on hrt and whilst it has helped, it hasn't been a magic cure-all for my sleep issues.

Icanflyhigh · 03/01/2023 09:53

Same for me last 2 nights. I am thinking its related to having no alcohol and hoping it gets better as really trying to drink a LOT less than I have been doing - biggest problem being I cannot cope with being this exhausted.

xogossipgirlxo · 03/01/2023 09:59

I never sleep near full moon- might be the reason for your insomnia too? It's horrible. I didn't sleep properly in 2 nights. Great for recovering from covid 😑

WinterFoxes · 03/01/2023 10:10

DS has insomnia. He swears by Nytol. Just don't use it every day. Once or twice a week at most, just to get the rest you need.

Am guessing your night time is different from mine 😆

It's 10.30pm here in southern Oz. Without going into the household family dynamics- my plan is a cool shower, fluffy bed with new linen, finish my glass of wine plus the 30mg of escitalopram the doctor prescribed. 👌

We shall see, best of luck to you as well X

Urgh. This was me last night. Stupidly stayed up in phone till 2am, then couldn't sleep. Finally nodded off at 6am for 1 whole hour and been awake ever since.

Thankfully gave myself the day off and still in bed. Haven't managed a nap yet. Feel incoherent 😵‍💫

Sending a load of caffeine fuelled vibes to you all!
