Disgusting taste In my mouth for over a week

Can anyone please help, or share experiences.

I have had a disgusting, bitter taste in my mouth since Christmas Day.

I am quite certain it's not dental related. My teeth are in good condition and I look after my oral health.

Everything tastes different. Water tastes disgusting. Coffee tastes off too.

I have done a covid test and it's negative.

Had anyone had this before? Did it just go away on its own. Could it be something sinister?

I'm 33 and not menopausal FWIW

what were your B12 and iron levels. You can always ring the surgery to ask if unknown. It’s common to have low levels (according to other countries) but be considered just fine in the U.K.

do you have any other symptoms? Exhaustion?

How’s everyone doing?
my taste is still there, decides it tastes almost like blood, but not metallic.
i decided to do a home FOB test. The one that tests for unvisable blood in the poo. It was positive. I’m sure it is connected.
i am seeing the doctor tomorrow.

I still have mine too. And dry mouth more often as well.
what would be the treatment if it is blood in your stool? I haven’t heard of that before. Why would it cause your taste to be off too? @disgustingtaste

Sinus infection ?

disgustingtaste · 22/03/2023 17:23

@Allgirlmom I don’t know why but I feel like I have blood coming from somewhere in my stomach and that’s what I can taste. But I’m really clutching at straws.

doctor referred me for a camera into my stomach, as I also have nausea and a burning kind of feeling.

I feel like the hand sanitizer in the mouth is really good way to describe it.

hope yours is gone and your feeling better

Not gone yet here. I had a week where it was mild though. It was nice. Then a couple days ago it started right back to being more intense and I’ve been very frustrated. I thought it was on its way out since I’ve never had that long of a period with it being so mild. It was still
always there but mild enough where it wasn’t that noticeable. The longest I had gone before with it being that mild is 2 days. So 7 days was great. How is yours? Is it constantly there or do you get periods where it’s completely gone? I literally haven’t had a single moment with it completely gone in 2.5 months I think! But mild periods where it’s barely there and I will think i don’t have it but it’s just because I’m used to it being more intense. I’m so sick of this though. I just want it all to go back to normal

Allgirlmom · 22/03/2023 17:40

@disgustingtaste also you mentioned some things tasted off for you in your first post. Do they still? Was it just coffee and water?

Bilingualspingual · 22/03/2023 17:44

I’m adding to the acid reflux posts.

Update for you if your interested
@Allgirlmom especially you!

after discovering the blood in my poo I was booked for an gastroscopy to have a look in my stomach and small bowel.

my small bowel was filled with ulcers, and they are pretty sure I have Crohn’s disease. Just waiting for biopsies to confirm.

That can cause this? Hopefully it can all finally be fixed. My bitter taste is still here and I’m getting more prickly and burnt mouth feelings. So that’s stressful. Dry mouth off and on.

Triflenot · 25/04/2023 23:40

Oh wow OP, what a shock for you.

disgustingtaste · 26/04/2023 09:11

yes quite shocked! Hope it can be fixed and hasn’t done too much damage.

@Allgirlmom after all my research into what could be causing mine… yours sounds like burning mouth syndrome. Have you looked into that?

Allgirlmom · 30/06/2023 07:42

Did you get it figured out? I definitely do have the burning mouth. Just didn’t realize at first the bitter taste can happen with that! It’s terrible.

DrCoconut · 30/06/2023 12:50

I got a really weird taste when I had a parotid infection. The cause became clear when my face swelled though.

disgustingtaste · 30/06/2023 14:46

I haven’t figured it out but it has gone away. Came back for 2 days but gone again

doctor now saying it’s not crohns but I do have duodenitis. I think it could of been that.

GP sent me for blood tests and the lab refused to test the blood they took as they said it was “cosmetic”. Felt that was quite unfair as it was causing me real distress for such a long time.

i was being sent for an MRI of my tongue but I have decided to cancel that’s as it has gone now.
