New Years Eve.. anyone doing'owt?

kingofchaos · 30/12/2022 18:40

We're going to my best friends for dinner, drinks snd a film.. same as we do every year, although usually they come to us.

That's about as energetic as it gets for us! Will probably stay up to watch the fireworks on tv and them call it a night.

Anyone still do a 'big' night out on NYE? I haven't for well over 20 years.

Sounds lovely!

Last time I had a big night out for NYE I snogged one good friend, then had to deal with another one being sick in a rickshaw. 2008 ish.

This year I’m very pleased to be going out for sushi with DH, then likely to be in bed for 11 ish.

maddy68 · 30/12/2022 18:46

Lunch with friends. Then to my friends bar before heading to a house party

Cuppasoupmonster · 30/12/2022 18:47

Nope. Takeaway and will watch some comedy type stuff probably. I haven’t been out for NY since 2017! Was pregnant in 2018 and haven’t fancied it since DD arrived. I’m sure I’ll get back to it when my kids are older.

We’re doing our usual plan of going out for lunch (on the train so no need to drive, we’ll be able to have a drink), and be back home for about 5pm ready for a mini buffet, fizzy, games and (not live) Jools Holland. I haven’t been out on NYE evening for a long time and really can’t be bothered with the hassle of it.

edwinbear · 30/12/2022 19:52

Nothing special here. We have lunch booked in a ‘pod’ at the local garden centre. Then I’m making kebabs, salad & flat breads for dinner. DC will no doubt spend the night in their rooms, gaming & shouting down their headphones. DH will have a couple of drinks, I won’t as I’m feeling boozed out from Christmas. Expect I’ll be in bed about 10pm, watch a film, maybe stick the fireworks on if I’m still awake at midnight. I’m very content with that!

FirstTimeMum072022 · 30/12/2022 19:54

Shall spend time with my beautiful daughter and reminiscing on what a first year we've had together.

AnxiousMum2015 · 30/12/2022 19:58

When I was a child my family would come round and we would have a take away and wait up for the fireworks. However as I got older this just dwindled out and now being a mum of 2 I don't make a big deal over the New Year, myself and my partner do our best to stay awake for the fireworks but the psst 3 years we've missed them.

I was thinking of doing somthing this year but I never got round to planning anything. So I'll follow this thread and hopefully pick up some last minute ideas we can do as a family.

Your plans sound absolutely lovely! I hope you have a fantatsic new year.

Sunshineandflipflops · 30/12/2022 20:01

Comfy clothes, food and bed before midnight probably!

I separated my my ex husband 5 years ago and he always wanted to do something on NYE and I was never bothered as with young kids it just wasn’t much fun (it was for him as he’d inevitably leave the parenting to me).

So now I enjoy doing nothing and not being made to feel guilty about it. My dp doesn’t drink so pubs aren’t his thing anyway and I just can’t be arsed with crowded places anymore.

it’s now my teenagers who make me feel boring and want to do something but I tell them once they are 18 they can do what they like on NYE!

earsup · 30/12/2022 20:01

No. still trying to shift my mini flu i have had for past week....usually work at local pub on nye, only day that i do....its a nice way to dodge the mess and sort of celebrate it....nice having the bar and counter inbetween the crowds...i dont drink also so at least one person has a clear head for any mishaps !

Campervangirl · 30/12/2022 20:11

Heading into Northumberland in our VW van, gonna park up overnight, got a stew cooking in the slow cooker tonight which we can reheat tomorrow night and some crusty bread, got some bubbly, nibbles and the dog.
We'll sit outside in our PJ's, wrapped in blankets, eat our stew and have a drink.
When it gets too cold we'll get into bed and watch a movie, bliss

StickofVeg · 30/12/2022 20:11

DP is going to his Mums with 1 DS, the other DS is working. I'm by myself and will be reading and snacking! Bed before midnight for me!

FanniesFlaps · 30/12/2022 20:12

Nope.
We don’t tend to celebrate NYE and this year everyone has flu.

Tiny2018 · 30/12/2022 20:16

Partying with 3 girlfriends and super excited! Christmas has been lovely but a little quiet as my 2 kids are getting older and I've barely spoke to another adult all week.

One of my friends fell down the stairs and sprained her ankle today so we are taking her around town in a wheelchair 😂. It's been a pretty crap year for 3 out of 4 of us so we shall boogie the new year in.

I'm 38 now but can still out dance the younger ones😀

Happy New Year to you all 🥳🥳🥳

MyMachineAndMe · 30/12/2022 20:20

I might go and buy a packet of fancy biscuits, share a joint or 3 with dh, and see the new year in with a cup of tea.

StormObelisk · 30/12/2022 20:21

I'm going to Yoga followed by a long walk and late pub lunch. I'll be in my pjs by 7pm if all goes to plan.

Spect8 · 30/12/2022 20:27

Doing nothing as usual! Happy not to.

Never understood what was so special about NYE, it's just another day and nothing really changes. Far too close to the excesses of Christmas also.

January 1st is no different to Dec 31st. apart from all the healthy living gurus and exercise sergeant majors at every turn. Yuk.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/12/2022 20:30

No my DH has a gig with his band. I was going to take DD to a family party in our hometown and he was going to meet us there. But I can't be arsed and will have no car. Dsil was going to pick us up but she's not well. DH will finish too late for the party anyway so just going to play games with DD and have some foot masks and stuff. Last year we had friends round.

Now that sounds bloody perfect!
Enjoy every moment

Phos · 30/12/2022 20:45

I'm babysitting my parents' dog. He is scared of fireworks.

That's my dream. DH and I are getting a van as soon as the kids are grown up. We only want the dog on board with us!!

Vintagevixen · 30/12/2022 20:51

Out for a late lunch with DD, Pantomime then home PJ's on with snacks to watch the fireworks at midnight. Then into my nice comfy bed sending up a thank you to the universe for my warm, cosy home. I feel very lucky.

The person doing the camper van in Northumberland though - I am well jealous!

catandcoffee · 30/12/2022 20:51

@Campervangirl That sounds amazing.

Rainbowsandbutterflies1990 · 30/12/2022 20:55

I would love to b invited round friends for dinner and few drinks we used to before children now we don't get asked , it is tricky cause have disabled older daughter which makes everything more difficult. We do nothing and husband will go bed normal time as he's not fussed and usually tired S we don't get much sleep pretty depressing

BearSoFair · 30/12/2022 20:59

I'm working the closing shift on NYE then back for the afternoon of New Year's Day so might even go to bed before midnight for the first time in years! Although would probably be woken up by fireworks so might just try to stick it out until they're done!

EcoCustard · 30/12/2022 21:01

Family walk with our dog then I shall cook spaghetti bolognaise as requested by the kids. I promised Dc4 we will play with his new playdoh set and Dc3’s beading craft kit. Movie and battleships with kids until they want to go to bed. Movie with DH if we’re not too tired. I used to love going out on New Years Eve but enjoy being home now.
