Just reached my goal of 52, so one a week. Looking back through my goodreads list though, it all seems to be pretty much one genre! 🤣
How many have you read, and are they all the same genre or do you read more widely? What were your faves?
Mine were:
Midnight Library
The nothing man
The reading list

People count the books they read... That's strange.

Why is it strange?

Such a sneery comment...like when you count your lengths in a pool and someone says "why do you count, why don't you just swim until you want to stop?"

TentoFive · 29/12/2022 21:03

37, but that did include the entire Wheel of Time series, all 4.4 million words of it, which took me the best part of a third of the year to read.

Beat books were The Shadow Rising from WoT and The marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell.

garlictwist · 29/12/2022 21:13

I have just counted up my list and I've done 40 this year. I did 60 last year so well short.

chilling19 · 29/12/2022 21:13

145!

garlictwist · 29/12/2022 21:14

Interestingly, The Midnight Library was the first book I read in 2022 and I hated it!

The best was Sorrow and Bliss

LBOCS2 · 29/12/2022 21:16

177 books this year, tracked on Goodreads.

2 primary aged children and a full time job. In my defence, I read incredibly quickly, and I also read a lot of shit which really doesn't take a huge amount of concentration so I can really power through them. I've done a lot of Pratchett rereads this year which are always good for my soul.

I was surprised by how much i enjoyed Wrong Place Wrong Time, even though I love time loop type films, I wasn't sure about this. I found the ending really satisfying too.

I'm in the mid 60s I think, plus one audiobook because I cannot count that towards my own reading. However I loved the narrator and it's nudged me to looking for others he has read, it was the first fiction audiobook I've not only made it all the way through, but actively sought out instead of podcasts.

MadMadMadamMim · 29/12/2022 21:22

194 which is less than last year. They are a mixture of things. I read very quickly, but have had less free time this year.

Maraudingmarauders · 29/12/2022 21:25

This is putting me to shame. Ive been challenging myself to read the number of books in the year - so 22 this year (21 last year). I realised I'd got really bad at reading new material, making time for it etc so the challenge has been really good for me.
I've about 20pages left of my 22nd book.

Favourites this year :
A Terrible Kindness (Fiction)
The Searchers (Non Fiction)

I don't think we should compare ourselves, we all have different time pressures ( and read books of varying lengths/ complexity) Smile

A grand total of 9! I used to be such a keen reader too. I'm half way through numbers 10 and 11 and wondering if I can finish them off in the next two days, before the end of the year... I'm trying to get off my phone and back into reading so was aiming for one a month this year.

escapingthecity · 29/12/2022 22:09

@FrenchFancie I downloaded the free book apps my library subscribes to and read on my phone instead of doomscrollong, transformative!

switswoo81 · 29/12/2022 22:14

Just checked my Kindle All ..have read 65. Happy with that. Read plenty over the summer but then had a slump of a few bad books I didn't finished but back into it again
This year I loved Catherine Ryan Howard . especially The Nothing Man. The terrifying in the ordinary.
Sarah Pearse is amazing at capturing isolation and the fear it brings (the retreat)
Liz Nugent for writing really irredeemable characters.

Sharpkat · 29/12/2022 22:16

I think I will end the year in 322. A mixture of reading and listening. Sadly, not a number I will reach ever again as I now go to work rather than WFH so lose a lot of time each day.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 29/12/2022 22:30

17 of which were on audible.

I started rereading Agatha Christie’s so that got me through a load. That and discovering Penelope Lively and Anita Brookner.

Beat reads:
Small Things Like These.
The Wonder.
Heart’s Invisible Furies.
Still Life.
Possession.

  1. Hoping to finish one more before the end of the month. 50 recorded on Goodreads and I've just moved to Storygraph to record the last 10 and it's so much better than Goodreads.

I always read for an hour a day and August was my best reading month at 11 books because we were on holiday.

I read books during the day and kindle of a night so always have two books on the go.

Orangesandlemons82 · 29/12/2022 22:37

I have just met my target of 45 books this year. Really enjoyed a couple of books by Claire Pooley who is a new author to me.

People count the books they read... That's strange.

People leaving irrelevant comments on threads they have no interest in is also strange.

Maybe you should try reading, give you something else to do?

  1. I'm pleased with that. Two years ago I was depressed and anxious, with such low concentration that I was unable to read at all. It's been a long road back.

My favourite was Early Riser by Jasper Fforde.

glamourousindierockandroll · 29/12/2022 22:57

15 I think. It's about average for me but I wish I could have done more. I'm spending too much time scrolling.

PringlesAreStupidSnacks · 29/12/2022 22:59

No comparisons at all, if anything I am.jealous.of those who have more time to read as I adire it after a few years of not ever sitting down and making the time.

I like good reads as it suggests new books. I also mainly use prime reading as it means my reading habit doesn't get expensive! I do have a pile of physical books I am.working my way through but find the kindle app easier at night.

Loving seeing other peoples people's favourite books this year. Have added many to my TBR list. On track to finish the list on my 546th birthday...🤣
