What's happened to Cadbury??

SouperNoodle · 26/12/2022 23:30

I've always been a lover of chocolate, especially Cadbury but haven't eaten much for a while.
Got a fair few Cadbury treats over Christmas and they taste awful!!!
The flavour is so different from what it used to be and just tastes cheap!?

Has anyone else noticed this or has my last bout of covid completely messed my tastebuds up?

The recipe was changed in 2010 I think when it was sold off

Shopgirl1 · 26/12/2022 23:32

No, you are right. They were taken over a few years ago. Awful since.

Pterrydactyl · 26/12/2022 23:32

The quality of Cadbury’s has been going down for a while.

I don’t think it tastes as good as it used to.

Yep can't stand them now. Obviously younger people haven't known anything different.

It's absolutely vile.

This year due to mn recommendations I ordered myself a little box of Audry chocolate and it was sublime.

I have told my family I don't ever want anything else!

LouLou198 · 26/12/2022 23:35

It's been rubbish for a good while, since Mondelez bought them out. I think it just tastes greasy now. It doesn't melt the same in your mouth. Chocolate from Lidl or Aldi is better, or if we are having a treat it's Lindt.

TheChippendenSpook · 26/12/2022 23:35

It has tasted awful for years: waxy and slimy.

The problem is that people still buy it and eat it so it won't ever go back to how it used to be.

Galaxy is the same though. It was much better when it was chunkier, thicker and wrapped in foil. Don't get me started on Minstrels, Ripples, Mars bars and Rolos. They haven't taste right for years. Sad times!

ErrolTheDragon · 26/12/2022 23:35

Yes, everyone else has noticed. They started going downhill when they were bought by Kraft (now Mondelez International, Inc). They've changed their recipes, using palm oil I think?

I've never even heard of that brand! I'll have to have a nose on Google now 😋

I haven't eaten them for years. They fucked up a beautiful brand. Whoever can replicate the old recipe will make a mint.

SouperNoodle · 26/12/2022 23:37

I remember the taste changing when they were taken over but it seems to be even worse in recent times. They must be continually cutting costs as no one would willingly make their product taste THAT shit, surely??

YANBU - I used to love Cadbury but it's shit now.

AriettyHomily · 26/12/2022 23:39

Palm oil.

RosesAndHellebores · 26/12/2022 23:40

The Roses wrappers. So disappointing. They used to look like jewels. Now they look plastic wrapped and so unappetising.

MeinKraft · 26/12/2022 23:40

I still really like it Xmas Blush

LadyHaversham · 26/12/2022 23:41

I bought some rolos and threw them away as they were so rank. I thought they were out of date but no, just shit

JustSomeoneSomewhere · 26/12/2022 23:44

They've always been awful!

The Swiss or Belgians buy Lindt & Co quality of chocolates at their local supermarket - and, naturally, they have their "good stuff", too, (and, now THAT is really good stuff!).

I love many British food staples - but, really, the UK is and always has been rather vile in terms of chocolates!

ItsMeHiImTheProblem · 26/12/2022 23:44

Cadbury's is disgusting too, claggy. I buy Tesco own chocolate, no palm oil in it, same seems to go for most own brand ones, or Lindt, Milka, Tonys.

ItsMeHiImTheProblem · 26/12/2022 23:44

Disgusting now that should say!

allboysherebutme · 26/12/2022 23:44

Nothing is as good is it used to be, they change the recipes or fill it with preservatives. X

NewMoonPhase · 26/12/2022 23:45

It's been vile for years!

minticecreamisjustok · 26/12/2022 23:47

I wish it was vile, I'd be a lot slimmer, sadly I like it too much Blush

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 26/12/2022 23:47

Op Audrey is a little independent shop that has been making chocolate the same way for 30 odd year's.
It's in hove/Brighton and apparently they used to supply fortum and mason.
Not sure if they do anymore but I was very impressed by theirs chocolate.
Unfortunately I couldn't see any palm oil statement but I'm not good at Searching.

I'll still eat Malteser occasionally and cheap chocolate but I mean for Xmas, Easter my b'day I won't waste money anywhere else

ArcaneWireless · 26/12/2022 23:47

Tastes like a glass and an ‘Alf of oil in every bar.

and just a waft of milk.

A shame.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 26/12/2022 23:49

I made my own selection box for 28 and it was absolutely delicious it kept me going for 5 day's.
Next time I will go for the lager size but I hadn't tried them before.b

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 26/12/2022 23:49

I really miss proper old Cadbury's chocolate - it was delicious.

I hate the way that, when challenged, the new owners will gaslight us by insisting that the recipe hasn't changed. I'd have a modicum more respect for them if they just admitted that they saw their opportunity to asset-strip an amazing brand and have subsequently slashed their costs, regardless of how much worse it makes the product for their customers, all in pursuit of (even more) Benjamins.
