This really.

The only one I listen to is Shagged Married Annoyed which is funny. But I’m looking to expand my horizons. Maybe even learn something!

My all time favourite podcast remains My Dad Wrote a Porno. I don't think anything will ever top it!

WorryMcGee · 20/12/2022 23:02

Redhanded. I absolutely love it, been listening for years and just saw them live. True crime done well and ethically.

CalmConfident · 20/12/2022 23:04

What sort of thing do you like? Just try a few things out on bbc sounds :)

I love podcasts more than TV these days! Some of my favourites:

British Scandal
Bad Women
The News Agents
Empire
Nigel Slater's The Christmas Chronicles
The Rest is Politics
Beyond the Bathroom
The History Extra Podcast (sometimes)

Any recommendations for relationships, style and beauty ones?

growgrowinggrown · 20/12/2022 23:16

@WorryMcGee totally agree, I've been listening since the beginning so it feels like a weekly catch up with friends now in a weird way.

Also love off menu with James Acaster and Ed Gamble.

Some great suggestions @crosshatching , thank you

LozzaChops101 · 20/12/2022 23:29

Criminal, and This is Love. Both hosted by Phoebe Judge. Both have individual true stories each episode. This is Love is about all kinds of love, not just romantic love. The one about the baby whale is one of my favourite episodes of anything, ever! Criminal is rarely grim crime. Much more human interest.

Shit Town. (It might be called S-Town). Just brilliant.

Body Bags, with Joe Scott Morgan. A death investigator from Florida (I think) talking about new cases.

The Nobody Zone. London based true crime about a serial killer. Sounds grim, but it’s fascinating and so well researched.

DuncanBiscuits · 20/12/2022 23:29

Some I love:

Stuff You Should Know
The Rest is History/Politics
S-Town
British Scandal
Happy Place
The Infinite Monkey Cage
In Our Time

CalamityClam · 21/12/2022 09:53

@LozzaChops101 Thank you for your suggestions. I found This Is Love and the baby whale 🐳 omg!

In return I offer DNA:ID - solving cold cases (usually of women deaths) using new technologies. I especially love the tagline, ‘if you’re the bad guy, they’re coming for you’.

Who the hell is Hamish
The teachers pet
Followed by the teachers trial
Shandee's story
S-town

All brilliant

LadyOfTheCanyon · 22/12/2022 22:16

Three Bean Salad - I listen and re listen to this, I just find the humour so funny and yet so soothing at the same time.

My dad wrote a porno is absolutely brilliant and it's so sad that it's just finished. I've started a re- listen as I know I've forgotten lots.

The box of oddities- esoterica- always a great mix of stories/ facts that have me reading around the subjects they talk about.

Athletico Mince: because Bob Mortimer.

Dear Joan and Jericha - filthy and a bit dark

You're dead to me - History that I can concentrate on because I usually enjoy the guests on there.

Full Disclosure with James O'Brien - I really enjoy a lot of his guests.

Standard Issue - current topics from a feminist angle.

Lore- spooky and unexplained stories. Great production values.

Crime Junkie- again, really well researched if you like true crime, although very US centric

They walk among us - very detailed UK true crime from the last 5 or 6 decades.

I listen to a lot of BBC Sounds podcasts as well like The Battersea Poltergeist and The Witch House, the Missing Crypto Queen, Fake Heiress ,

Sweet Bobby and Hoaxed, loads on Spotify- Gossipmongers, Chatabix, Hypothetical the podcast and so on...

DuncanBiscuits · 23/12/2022 06:33

@LadyOfTheCanyon thanks for recommending Three Bean Salad - I woke DH up in the night giggling.

I’ve followed The Box of Oddities, too. Looking at your list, we have similar taste!

booklovingmum · 23/12/2022 07:20

I only listen to true crime ones, my two favourites are:

Crime junkie
Big mad true crime

I have also enjoyed these:

Up and vanished
Your own backyard

Both follow unsolved cases and the cases actually unfold as the podcast is being recorded which is interesting

Life's a Beach
Brydon & ...
My Mate Bought A Toaster

Most for if you're looking for something lowbrow Grin

Lotsofpots · 23/12/2022 08:09

I like a lot of the ones already recommended but will particularly call out Empire, which is really well done.

The podcast series by tortoise are excellent. Sweet Bobby, Pig Iron, Londongrad, The Tavistock - but also their one off weekly ones. Fascinating stories and superb journalism.

If you're a fan of the west wing then listen to The West Wing Weekly. It's an episode by episode analysis of the show joint hosted by one of the lead actors, so they get the cast and writers etc on all th time. It's exceptional analysis but also makes me howl with laughter.

Just The Gist is great to pick and choose from

The Trojan Horse. Brilliant and shocking.
