This really.

The only one I listen to is Shagged Married Annoyed which is funny. But I’m looking to expand my horizons. Maybe even learn something!

OP posts:
notenoughtogoround · 23/12/2022 08:10

Few that have already been mentioned like parenting hell and off menu. But I really love You’re Dead to Me. History and humour and such a wide range of global history that I never covered at school. There are three Christmas themed ones (Victorian, Medieval and Dickensian Christmas) that are lovely
at this time of year.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/12/2022 08:13

I never know where to start with podcasts, so shamelessly placemarking

I like The secret world of slimming clubs and parenting hell, but I’d like to broaden my horizons a bit!

FestivePinkFairy · 23/12/2022 08:17

The Lady Vanishes about an Australian woman who went missing in 1997 and the lengths her daughter has gone to to solve the mystery. Gripping.

The News Agents
RedHanded
The Rest is Politics
Histories of the Unexpected - history about everyday things, hosted by one of my former uni lecturers
They Walk Among Us
Mens Rea
Phoebe's Fall

I like a lot of true crime and politics.

I love St Elwicks. I check my podcast library every day in the wistful hope that Malcolm has somehow wrenched back control of the newsletter, if only for an update on Roger's natterjack toad situation.

I'm just starting to work my way through Beef and Dairy. - another rec for the Mike Woz provincial dad chat fans is St Elwicks Neighbourhood Association Newletter Podcast.

Oh thank you for the recommendation! My 11 year old is obsessed with all things Ben Partridge and Mike Wozniak. I will be very much in favour if I tell him about this.

isobel79 · 23/12/2022 08:29

Parenting hell with Rob and Josh brilliant

The Natterjack toads are surely Roger's benevolent overlords by now!

rainbowstardrops · 23/12/2022 08:32

I keep meaning to listen to more podcasts but I really love Help I Sexted My Boss.
It has William Hanson and Jordan North in it. Very funny.

pinkpixie83 · 23/12/2022 08:34

BedTaker · 20/12/2022 22:59

My all time favourite podcast remains My Dad Wrote a Porno. I don't think anything will ever top it!

Absolutely... Will have you crying with laughter

I've had some strange looks when walking the dog with this in my headphones

daisychain01 · 23/12/2022 08:37

I like The 10% Happier podcast by an American dude called Dan Harris. He releases new episodes a few times a week.

I love his dark brown voice, so soothing, and he has amazing guests like psychologists, Buddhist monks etc, I've learned so much about life and untangling one's inner feelings, responses and making sense of them. It's all very relatable.

Squiffy01 · 23/12/2022 08:38

You’re not the only one.

great way to start the week just has me laughing all the time.

SavouryFlavour · 23/12/2022 08:41

submariner Small Scenes on the Sounds app is written & performed by Mike Wozniak, Henry Paker, Daniel Rigby, Ben Partridge and Cariad Lloyd (or, as op I prefer to think of them, Malcolm, Jonathan, Roger, Hillary and Veronica Tooze, MBE). Very funny, and sometimes you catch ghosts of the sketches in the topics they discuss on Three Bean Salad.

Mydogatemypurse · 23/12/2022 08:47

You're dead to me- history but funny

My Dad wrote a Porno- i love Alice Levine.

Gossipmongers- but only the ones that Poppy was on

Coldcase

Dan Snow- more history

The Self Love podcast- Beatrice is amazing

Off menu... james acaster is brilliant and they have some amazing guests, its a shame ed gamble is there tho just fluffing his own feathers. He gets very put out when guests are funnier/more knowledgeable than him which does unintentionally make me laugh.

I quite like that wind down wake up one too with the Irish man with the calmest voice.

For my sins i have enjoyed some of Russel Brands poscasts where he interviews people, but I really don't like him at all. He gives off the worst vibes.

seperatedmum · 23/12/2022 08:52

I need some more podcasts myself

I liked
Scott Mills RIP
most episodes of Risk
Blind Landing (one off series)
did listen to One Bad Mother but Biz's undiluted voice without Theresa is too much
Women's Running (a bit slow)
all the 90 day fiancé ones
I'll have another podcast

I couldn't get into The Moth or some other real life stores with beats as they called it
I don't need any more running ones as they're all too professional
probably don't need any more parenting ones
also didn't get along with Scarlett Moffat
Parenting Past Chaos also too screechy
tried to listen to But I Digress and it never got anywhere

eish · 23/12/2022 09:03

If you want to learn things then I recommend searching up Tortoise Media as they do great investigative journalism (some, eg Hoaxed already mentioned above).

Some good suggestions here, lots I have done but some new too.

For crime (not everyone's cup of tea)
Your Own Backyard
In the dark

Mydogatemypurse · 23/12/2022 09:07

Scroobulous Pips podcast I really enjoyed too.

Username6194 · 23/12/2022 09:14

Help! I sexted my boss.

Brilliantly funny podcast.

Also really enjoying the Whitehall's one at the moment. Wittering Whitehalls I think it's called.

AngelontopoftheTree · 23/12/2022 09:15

Also suggesting Off Menu, especially the Victoria Coren Mitchell one

Something rhymes with purple, a word one with Susie Dent and Gyles Brandreth

Jessiejuju · 23/12/2022 09:17

Fangasm

Sammysquiz · 23/12/2022 09:19

Another Off Menu fan here.
Love Adam Buxton’s podcasts - he’s a beautifully natural interviewer.
Fortunately with Fi Glover & Jane Garvey. It’s finished now but there’s a big back catalogue.
Did like Shagged Married Annoyed but think I’ve listened to it for too long - got a bit samey.
Spinning Plates with Sophie Ellis Bexter.

KylieKangaroo · 23/12/2022 09:21

Ricky Gervais "Guide to" podcast is brilliant

toothiepegs · 23/12/2022 09:24

British Scandal is ace, easy listening, 3 or 4 episode stories and gently funny - learnt lots about stuff I’d only vaguely heard of before.

Off Menu is great, can be a bit hit and miss dependent on guest but lots of back catalogue to take your pick from - I’d suggest Rafe Spall as a start, so funny!

RHLSTP - as above. Not a huge fan of Richard Herring but there are some fantastic guests and he is good at interviewing. Joe Lycett was an absolutely cracking recent one, funny, thought provoking and surprisingly sad in places.

Red Handed if you’re into true crime - the only true crime podcast I still listen to which hasn’t descended into absolute crap. The Alison Botha episode recently was excellent. All Killa No Filla has some brilliant earlier episodes but the most recent haven’t been as good - feels like the presenters don’t really like each other any more and it’s being done in between other work as an afterthought.

Finally - Adrift. Stories of social ineptitude, gentle humour, no pretences or agenda and genuine friendship between the presenters. My favourite for when I need grounding.

OP, I’m jealous you get to start all these from scratch!!

OOlivePenderghast · 23/12/2022 09:31

Some great suggestions I’m going to look at thanks!
I like:
The Way They Were- funny about past celebrity relationships
Drunk Women Solving Crime
Pappy’s Flatshare
You’re Wrong About
Stuff You Should Know
DumTeeDum- about the archers

I also like lots of the BBC podcasts and the Tortoise media ones too.

FreiasBathtub · 23/12/2022 09:33

I love 99% Invisible. It's nominally about design but it covers so many topics around history, tech, politics, culture. Huge back catalogue.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 23/12/2022 09:35

Athletico Mince - wonderful chaos and I love it.
Today in focus

i often whatever BBC sounds thing out too
