Do you have work colleagues?

Yabado · 20/12/2022 19:26

Do you know anyone who has a SIA badge
( security guards . Door work )
My son has one and he’s been able to sign passports
If you have a security guard where you work they will have a SIA badge

anyone that owns a pub or a off license that sells alcohol can also sign

Yoyooo · 20/12/2022 19:30

Do you have any old family friends? Friends of your parents who have known you?

viques · 20/12/2022 19:30

Unforgettablefire · 20/12/2022 19:03

Bloody hell! I take my comment back, yes it was a while ago now and my last one was a renewal so more than ten years.
Apologies! I wonder why it changed?

I stopped doing it when you had to provide all your own details on the form, including your passport details and (I think) your address.might be wrong about the address. I didn’t mind signing photos and declarations for parents at school but didn’t really want to share personal information

Yellowaveo59 · 20/12/2022 19:34

I’ve just applied for me 1st passport a manager of a Ltd company is one of the nominated people on the list who can sign.

my manager at work has signed mine and I now have an interview booked to prove ID. I assume the managers signature was good enough

Quveas · 20/12/2022 19:41

I don't know why you are angry. Passports can't be handed out like candy. There's absolutely nobody in the world that had known you for two years?

PuttingDownRoots · 20/12/2022 19:42

Do you know anyone who does a volunteer job on the side? I can sign as a Scout leader as we are considered responsible...

singleisbetter · 20/12/2022 20:01

not so much as angry i think iv just worked my self up a bit

You’re not answering people’s suggestions though- an old teacher, a work colleague/boss, a family friend, someone from a long time ago as they just need to be sure that it is you in the photo.

It was pointed out that the person doesn’t my need to be someone close enough to meet you in person as it’s all done online. Are none of these options?

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 20/12/2022 20:08

TerraNostra · 20/12/2022 18:36

Nonsense. The list is here Countersignatory occupations

perhaps she was retired from one, or she was a company director, charity trustee etc. “Housewife” would not be accepted.

Excuse me? My friend was accepted as a person of good standing in the community. Her occupation was therefore irrelevant.

Stepstepmother · 20/12/2022 20:16

At the very least you’ll need someone you know to read through and correct your cover letter if your posts here are anything to go by. What is your job?

singleisbetter · 20/12/2022 20:17

thanks every one some very good replys that i had not thought of one being my neighbour just nipped to ask her shes doing it now for me . ive had bran fog all day (pms)

LubaLuca · 20/12/2022 20:17

Lots of good suggestions here, still no idea of who to ask?

thereisonlyoneofme · 20/12/2022 20:17

This is a problem I have. Dont know anyone professional who knows me !

So why did you mention it then, as supposed proof that the occupation “housewife” was acceptable?
And how did they verify her standing?

LubaLuca · 20/12/2022 20:18

Ah, just seen your update. Nice easy solution.

singleisbetter · 20/12/2022 20:19

i mean brain fog lol

If it is done online then you don’t have the share your own details. You are just emailed a verification link so the person you are verifying never sees your info.

Our practice stopped doing it because it was taking up so much of the doctors' time. I imagine this is why the government changed the rules

A housewife might very well be accepted, becasue the requirements are to be one of the recognised professions OR someone of good standing in the local community.

pinneddownbytabbies · 20/12/2022 20:55

Interesting reading, that list. And of course it does only say 'examples' so presumably there are many other people that would qualify too.

Aaargh, how many times do I have to explain this???!

yes, she might, but the fact she was a housewife would not be relevant to whether or not she was considered to be of good standing in the local community. She could also be a lion tamer or a pole dancer.

TerraNostra I don't think you're listening. No-one has said that 'housewife' is sufficient in itself. A housewife might be accepted if they are also of good standing.

My original post did not say that my friend was accepted because she put 'housewife'. It said that she put 'housewife' and the application was accepted. These are two quite different things. You appear to be determined to correct an assumption that no-one but you has made.

I might not have said it but when i read your message i definitely was under the impression you were saying housewife was accepted on that basis alone .

However you try and rationalise it, on a thread where someone is trying to find a counter signatory and needs help, saying this will potentially make someone in desperate need, go to a housewife to sign their documents.

If you'd said 'a housewife but she was considered a pillar of the community detailed reason here and THIS is what got the counter signatory excepted' then this conversation wouldn't be happening
