What else can I put on my crumpets apart from golden syrup? The kids have Nutella but I'm not a fan.

Absolutely not. It was what I was given as a child and decades later I am still doing the same.

Just butter. Butter and melted cheese. Or scrambled egg.

Real butter and scrambled eggs with spring onions and cheese. Breakfast of the gods.

I only used to have golden syrup on them. Now my faves are butter and marmite with sliced cold mature cheddar cheese. Or apricot jam, also with cold cheddar cheese (often I have one of each) Yum!

Really salty butter (welsh is good) or one of the one with sat crystals in. Then the tensest pinch of granulated sugar - like 1/5th of a teaspoon.

you get a buttery, salty, very slightly sweet thing. It’s perfection.

I am so tempted to go and eat a plateful of crumpets now. Shouldn’t have clicked onto this thread yet - I should have waited until breakfast.

They just need salted butter, so much that it leaks out the other side! Nothing beats it!

However, butter followed by Boursin is delicious.
As is poached duck egg, cut in to the runny yolk and it runs through to the bottom 😋
