I look like Scott from the Antartic...

Yes! Had the heating on for 2 hours first thing and my office is now a tropical 15.8 degrees 😂

1001Daffodils · 12/12/2022 10:37

Yep. The heating is only used for the benefit of my children so the morning blast has worn off and I'm layered up to my eyeballs until it comes back on for their return from school.

Ordinarily stoic in the winter but this year I'm struggling with being cold.

mrsmarmalade12 · 12/12/2022 10:39

Yep! 12.5 degrees today in the house until heating comes on tonight. Sooo cold!

ifonly4 · 12/12/2022 10:39

Do you have a long coat? Heating packed up at work yesterday and we were allowed to wear out coats (customer facing role) and other than slightly cold feet and hands (which I kept shaking), I was actually ok.

MrsJBaptiste · 12/12/2022 10:44

I was freezing last year when I worked in our (open plan) kitchen as I didn't want to heat the whole house just to keep me warm. I'm now in my own office at the bottom of the garden and am much warmer thanks to a plug-in radiator under my desk and a heated throw over my legs!

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 12/12/2022 10:49

I’ve just plugged in the heater clothes airer - cheaper than having the heating on.

Also wearing Ugg boots, thermal socks, wool joggers, thermal vest, polo neck, a jumper, a cashmere beaning and a padded gilet. I refuse to be cold!

Timeandtune · 12/12/2022 10:50

I can highly recommend wrist warmers.

SomeBeings · 12/12/2022 10:52

There is no need to be cold if you can afford to buy an electric blanket. They are very cheap to run.

barneshome · 12/12/2022 10:52

I go to the office I will use their utilities

Pelo22 · 12/12/2022 10:52

I'm digging out the heated blanket, the bloody cat insisted he wanted to go out so I had to wait by the window for him to come back in

Schoolstresses · 12/12/2022 10:55

I've been freezing other years when WFH due to the house we lived in and the type of heating it had. This year we are in a new house with a better system. We are keeping the house at a warm temp but are spending less on other things like food shopping to hopefully have enough to pay the bill when it comes in.

NotToBeOrToBe · 12/12/2022 10:55

It's 9 degrees here.

I'm not cold, but then again I'm in bed working with a sheet and two blanket while wearing woolly PJ'S, an oodie and woolly socks!

Decafflatteplease · 12/12/2022 10:58

I'm a SAHM so whilst not WFH, similar situation.

Absolutely freezing!

Heating was on for 3 hours this morning but I don't want to put it on again until this evening if we can help it already paying £300 a month and will be £500 from Jan so can't afford to risk that going any higher.

It's 10 -15 degrees in our house depending on room. My toddler and I are under the duvet on the couch with onesies hats and thermal socks! Keep putting the fan blower thing on for a few.mins blast as it eats electric apparently.

I was debating going to the warm bank down the road but they said to avoid bringing children except on one day which isn't today and also there's people who need it more than us. We can afford to heat our home just about so very lucky.

bellinisurge · 12/12/2022 11:00

Long johns (rebranded these days as a "base layer") and "base layer" top. Plus hoodie, jeans and hot water bottle.

ytrf · 12/12/2022 11:02

Do you have the option of going to the office but you'd rather be cold at home than go in?

This is me. Cold, layered up but still would rather work at home.

skyeisthelimit · 12/12/2022 11:07

I am not cold, but I am wearing my Oodie. It keeps me warm and toasty.

Member869894 · 12/12/2022 11:11

I could go in but have a newish dog and don't want to leave him. I've got jeans, socks, slippers, a long leeved tshirt and a sweatshirt and on top of it all a huge primark fleeced knee-length hoody so my body is warm but my hands, feet and nose are icy. Roll on 3 pm when I'll put it on for the kids to come home to

I’m pretty toasted as I’ve got an oodie and a heated blanket. Would definitely recommend those for staying warm. Barely putting the heating on at the moment as it costs too much.

Figgyroller · 12/12/2022 11:39

I really recommend draping the heated blanket on the desk chair, sitting on it then draping the front bits on your lap. Then another blanket on top. It is a game changer!

Dreamstate · 12/12/2022 11:42

Train cancelled all morning - put in for compensation got £10 back and its now being used to heat my home Xmas Grin so toasty warm here, thanks train company!

ApplesAndCheese · 12/12/2022 11:44

Yes, bloody freezing. I have a hot water bottle on my lap and a blanket over that. Fingerless gloves, layers, thermal socks and fleece-lined slipper boots. I had the heating on for 3 hours this morning but can't afford it on all day. My fingertips are icy.

Costs more to go into the office though, so I'm sticking it out at home and may decamp to the sitting room in a bit, where I can huddle under a bigger blanket!

Member869894 · 12/12/2022 11:49

Just checked. No wonder I'm cold. It's 8 degrees here in my home office

I don't think the instructions recommended sitting or laying on the blanket for probably safety reasons.

motherofawhirlwind · 12/12/2022 11:52

Slipper boots and a fake Oodie here and I'm too hot 😂

darisdet · 12/12/2022 12:01

Heating is currently set to kick off below 13.5 unless I turn it up. Heated throw recommendations were very good advice.

I've got activewear under woollen skirt and cardigan, and over tights. Not doing a workout until later but good for layering in the meantime.
