I look like Scott from the Antartic...

OP posts:

I did have a fluffy dressing gown over clothes earlier but have since warned up a bit. I do have an Oodie but only ever worn the thing once or twice as it's so bulky to move around in.

soundsofthesixties · 12/12/2022 12:26

I refuse to be cold. It's 18 degrees in here and I'm lovely and warm.

Sparklefoof · 12/12/2022 12:40

I've folded and just put the heating on for an hour. Not just for me, poor Ddog looks miserable and she's rubbish at keeping a blanket on her she just kicks it off.

Currently wearing a vest, long sleeve top, sweatshirt amd cardigan and have a hot water bottle on my lap. I find I can keep my body pretty warm but fingers toes and nose are trickier.

darisdet · 12/12/2022 12:49

I've also folded. My hands wouldn't unfreeze after bringing groceries in. I'll turn it off for a while soon.

The cat looks happier now, she was hogging the heated throw.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 12/12/2022 12:50

I'm in the office and freezing! Actually better at home where I can wear all my ridiculous blankets and use hot water bottles.
Here I need to look 'professional' 🥶

hattie43 · 12/12/2022 12:57

I work from home and the heating is on and will stay on all the while it's needed . It has been - temperatures in the day here and I refuse to be cold . I also have dogs and they don't like the cold either .
I can afford my bills but if I couldn't I'd think fuck it I'll pay it off in the summer .

ZittiEBuoni · 12/12/2022 13:01

Heated throw is on so fingers are unfrozen enough to type.

New Year plan is to go into the library (walking distance from me) and work there on laptop every morning, then just use the home office in the afternoons with heating on lowish. All comms are via email, so should be OK.

gruffalosbrother · 12/12/2022 13:11

No because I have put my heating on. So long as I can afford it I will not skimp on having a warm house, I would far rather cut back on other things if necessary than be cold.

I could go in but have a newish dog and don't want to leave him. I've got jeans, socks, slippers, a long leeved tshirt and a sweatshirt and on top of it all a huge primark fleeced knee-length hoody so my body is warm but my hands, feet and nose are icy. Roll on 3 pm when I'll put it on for the kids to come home to

Same my hands are freezing. I'd like heated fingerless gloves...

My office is the same. At least at home a cuppa doesn't cost £1.50 and I can layer up to my heart's content.

Delectable · 12/12/2022 13:18

I have a long water bottle keeping me warm. The radiators in the kitchen and bathroom are off. Had the heating on to warm up but I like to be toasty and my HWB does the job well!

reachforthebloodymary · 12/12/2022 13:30

I am on holiday, currently under a duvet, with a blanket wrapped round me, dog on legs, cat on chest.

I have 2 loads of washing to do and then the heating is going on

Candlle · 12/12/2022 13:32

Me, it is 13.2 degrees in the room I’m working in and my hands are freezing.

NoelNoNoel · 12/12/2022 13:40

Googe Wim Hof’s Horse Stance, it’s brilliant for warming up and doesn’t cost a penny.

MrsJBaptiste · 12/12/2022 13:49

ytrf · 12/12/2022 11:51

I don't think the instructions recommended sitting or laying on the blanket for probably safety reasons.

What??? You don't think you can sit or lie on a heated blanket/throw?

@Figgyroller This is exactly what I do but I also wrap my legs around the radiator under my desk. I hate being cold!!!

Christmasmunchies · 12/12/2022 14:14

Heating on constant set to 17.5. I will not sit and freeze in my own home in 2022!!

HumourReplacementTherapy · 12/12/2022 14:17

I joined the 'heating on all day' experiment t thread that's in chat.
Our very unscientific results have been
For some it works/costs the same
For some it definitely doesn't (really depends on the house/insulation)
For some it costs slightly more but is worth it to feel Warm.
I fall into the latter

Heating was set to come on for 1hr 30 min at 18° in the morning then come on again at 5pm ish for same duration.
It costs me about £1 more to have it on 8am until 9pm at 18°
So yes, it's going to cost me an extra pound a day but if I were still
Commuting I'd be paying £6 to park/lunch the odd coffee etc so it's worth it.

MintJulia · 12/12/2022 14:20

I'm not cold but my video camera is definitely off. I'm basically dressed for skiing - salapettes, base layer, fleece, gilet, snood. Ski socks 😂

ytrf · 12/12/2022 14:21

This is one of the warnings -

Also make sure that your heated throw blanket is a top layer only: Don't sit on these blankets or crush them in any way because their internal heating mechanisms may get damaged

StarCourt · 12/12/2022 14:21

@Figgyroller thats exactly what im doing

MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2022 14:25

I wfh but not sitting and am fine. Dh is the Arctic version, maybe I’ll suggest a bike work set up..

Fuwari · 12/12/2022 14:30

I did the whole "heating on low all the time vs shorter higher bursts" and it cost the same. Decided to try it after the first week I was sat freezing! So now its on 18 in the day, 16 overnight. Keeps things comfortable and costs no more than if I had it off for most of the day. I think it's because my house gets cold quickly and takes an age to heat up, so the boiler is working a lot harder, I think?

Ironically, DS who works out of the home has been sent home as they have no heat there! Luckily he can continue working at home, his company just aren't keen on it normally.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 12/12/2022 14:35

Same OP. Yesterday we had the heating on all day, but only set to 15 - and we racked up £22 on the smart meter. ARGHH. So today we're leaving the heat off, and trying space heaters. It was 9 degrees in the kitchen, so I've moved to the front room, where it's 12. ARGHHHHH I can't put on any more layers, on top of many layers I've got my wearable blanket, fingerless gloves, scarf. This is insane, I just want to cry - spending so much money but still freezing 😩😩😩

zebette · 12/12/2022 14:40

I highly recommend sitting at your desk in a sleeping bag.

£1.50?!

Ours is free fortunately bit I have to keep nipping to the toilets to use the hand dryer to warm my hands up
