What do you use to clear condensation off your windows?

We have puddles every day that are half ice.

I'm dreaming of an amazing contraption that makes clearing it all a breeze and a pleasure… I imagine you're all doing to say towels and elbow grease! The bottom of the garden doors are the worst!

Window vac

wonderingwhatsnext · 10/12/2022 10:48

Window vac makes it a one minute job and removes the water from the environment.

BringOnAutumn · 10/12/2022 10:48

Oooooh what is this window vac you speak of??! Do you have links?

The karcher one is crap. In a previous home I bought one and it wasn’t very good so I bough a recommended cheaper one and it wa a fantastic.

It was an earlier model of this

I just use microfibre cloths

ColeXander · 10/12/2022 10:56

I recently got a Karcher window vac- it’s life changing and I wouldn’t be without it now 😀

TrentCrimm · 10/12/2022 10:56

Our Karcher one works a treat

Gufo · 10/12/2022 10:57

It was a towel but I realised I was just moving the moisture from windows to a damp towel on a radiator! Just ordered a window vac - the screwfix ones have good reviews and are half the price of karcher.

Nigelladamascena · 10/12/2022 10:57

Window vac

Sandysandwich · 10/12/2022 10:58

A shower squeegee thing with the window open- all the condensation runs onto the floor outside- it takes like 30seconds

Rollercoaster1920 · 10/12/2022 10:58

Kitchen towel or loo roll. Needs to be absorbent to get rid of the water, and then goes in the compost bin.
I tried a sponge once but left too much moisture behind.

saveforthat · 10/12/2022 10:59

Mine is Karcher and brilliant. We have massive sash windows. I couldn't be without it.

Passerillage · 10/12/2022 11:01

I had never heard of the screwfix one - definitely ordering, because I had just been using a towel.

I could use it on the problem wall in the bathroom too…

Passerillage · 10/12/2022 11:02

Sorry, I’d never heard of a WINDOW VAC. Going to get the screwfix one.

Doliveira · 10/12/2022 11:04

Omg! So much condensation this morning in our bedroom, never seen anything like it. I can’t deal with the noise of the Karcher first thing, I’ve just added super absorbent sponge cloth to Sainsburysbasket.. £1.30. Hope it’s good.

StandUpStraight · 10/12/2022 11:04

Having spent ages thinking a window vac was a stupid idea and why not just use a cloth, I’ve now got one and I’m amazed at (a) how much water is in the tank when I’ve done one window and (b) how much warmer the house feels with a daily whip around. Ours is Karcher but I suspect my husband bought that brand because he didn’t realise you could get cheaper versions.

I have this, very good. Makes mincemeat of the job. £65 though? I paid £30 direct from Vileda.

custardbear · 10/12/2022 11:06

When we had windows like that I used a window vac, before that it was dreadful but I think it helped clear the air of excess moisture too as windows gradually got a bit better over time

BringOnAutumn · 10/12/2022 11:06

In my local diy shop, they have the karcher wv6 and an Electrolux s7 for the same price and similar reviews. Does anyone have experience of either? Is the karcher just a vacuum? The electrolux has pictures of window cleaning as well (or maybe they both do the same…?)

This morning, I used a pair of pants from the wash basket. Luckily my pants have quite a bit of material to them and are cotton. Did the job very well...
