Showers in the dark and other strangely nice things

A few years ago there was a thread on here about weird but nice ways of doing things.

I loved that thread and still do two of the things that posters shared: showering in the dark- strangely comforting; and brushing my teeth with warm water- also nice.

Do you have any weird but nice ways to do ordinary things?

I love showering in the dark and have done so ever since I was a teen living at home. Back then we had a big bathroom so I would shower in twilight then wrap myself in 3 towels and sit on the floor, leaning up against the big radiator to dry off.
My bathroom now has a tiny radiator but I still wrap myself up in a few towels and dry off slowly sitting on the floor!

When I had a convertible, driving at night with the top down - country roads, unlimited view of stars

Dd loved it

New slippers, when they're all soft and fluffy.

Walking barefoot on wet grass.

I might have to try showering in the dark, too!

stuntbubbles · 04/12/2022 22:02

Swimming in the rain is heaven.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 04/12/2022 22:03

Outdoor showers (in a warm climate obviously 😁).

squashyhat · 04/12/2022 22:04

I like pushing the duvet off in winter until I'm really cold and shivering and then pulling it back on and getting toasty warm and snuggly. Also imagining I'm in a tree house open to the stars.

Shaving your legs last thing at night and getting into a freshly made bed!

Not that weird but frowned upon: dipping jammy toast in milky tea!

Say what ?

Shaving one leg only, especially when it’s the first post-winter shave, and rubbing the bald leg against the Mr Tumnus leg is also GREAT.

Reading in the bath - out loud, with character voices.

You know that you can buy 'toast and jam' and 'biscuit' flavoured teabags right? I believe they're by Yorkshire....

I love cleaning my teeth in the shower, makes me feel super clean and fresh when I get out. Is this weird? I’m not sure.

Footballmyarse · 04/12/2022 22:20

If you shower in the dark, a clown or something will definitely kill you. How do you people not know this?

WhispersOfWickedness · 04/12/2022 22:20

You're all a lot braver than me, I've seen enough horror films to know not to do anything but sleep in the dark Grin

No it's not weird at all, although my dh thinks it is.

Love cleaning my teeth in the shower, plus it doesn't make a mess in the sink. I also clean for a lot longer than two minutes as I do it whilst rinsing the shampoo from my hair.

When I'm in the shower I sometimes start to think about what would happen if there were a zombie apocalypse I didn't know about and what I would do if a zombie horde broke down the door. This then leads to me feeling slightly worried about an impending zombie apocalypse. If I were also showering in the dark I'm sure my slight worries would develop into full blown panic! 😆

I always worry about what if there was an earthquake and my house fell down around me and I was naked. Or when using the toilet on a plan, what if it crashes and I have my pants round my ankles. Clearly I have big concerns about being dead and naked 😮

Oneofthosewsillydays · 04/12/2022 22:26

Having a bath in the dark (apart from a couple of low light candles) is the most relaxing experience. I have had a shower the same way (not pitch black but slight flicker of candle light). It's bloody amazing, and such a treat.

bizzey · 04/12/2022 22:26

So interesting about showering in the dark !
( This thread is in active ,otherwise I would not have seen it )

The bulb has gone in the bathroom so I shall be showering and washing my hair in the dark soon !

Though I do have a couple of candles .

KatherineofGaunt · 04/12/2022 22:29

I sometimes shower in the dark. Usually when DS is asleep. I will have the fan on, though, which has a blue light and we have a motion-sensor night light in there too, so it's never pitch black. But I do like it. Much more cosy than doing it in bright daylight or, yuck, bright electric lights.

BT11 · 04/12/2022 22:33

Having a bath in the dark with the windows wide open during a thunderstorm. So relaxing being all warm and hearing the heavy rain

Motherhubbardscupboard · 04/12/2022 22:36

I shower in the dark because we don't have a blind at the window! Surprised at brushing teeth with warm water, I was taught the hot water wasn't clean enough, but that's possibly something that has changed now or something my parents were wrong about, which is very possible!

Oneofthosewsillydays · 04/12/2022 22:38

Yes I love a good thunderstorm, I maybe share others fear of being found indecent though, in an event of a national disaster. Needless to say I'd rather listen to it clothed.

Love sleeping in a bedroom with an open fire. And lying on a sheepskin rug in front of the fireplace.Always keep the curtains open when there’s forecast snow or thunderstorms.

Oneofthosewsillydays · 04/12/2022 22:40

Thought of another, standing in the rain looking up, closing eyes and feeling it hit your face.
