Getting dressed up on Christmas day

Do you bother if you aren't going out, having guests or any visitors?

We might pop down to the beachfront so I'll make sure I've got a nice top but I don't think I'm even going to get dressed if we don't 😂

I have never got dressed up for Christmas Day. A Christmas jumper at best, pjs at worst. Just tend to be around immediate family

Tintackedsea · 01/12/2022 19:48

Yep. Love a bit of glitz for Christmas dinner. Ideally I have been given perfume or jewellery to wear!

Oldraver · 01/12/2022 19:51

We wear pyjamas most of the day ( though clean after shower) but dress up for dinner

We don’t get dressed up-up, but nicely dressed as if you were going to Sunday lunch at a friends.

I am a screaming slob in many ways but I cannot get my ahead around Christmas Day in nightwear.

It’s quite novel to have found I do have a Hyacinth Bucket line. 😁💃

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 01/12/2022 19:56

Yes definitely, makes the day feel special if you are in or out. Get cosy again in the evening if you want to but otherwise could be any other wintery Sunday.

Sprouttreesareamazing · 01/12/2022 19:58

As a dc I remember getting dressed up and doing my hair. Still do as do my dd's. Boxing day is for slobbing imo.

ScottishLavender · 01/12/2022 19:59

We do dress up - there's only the two of us so we set the table properly, have mulled wine in the conservatory before lunch, retire to the lounge with a cafetière for the Speech from Buck House, and make it as ceremonial as possible. Otherwise it'd be any other Sunday in winter.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 01/12/2022 20:00

Slob around in PJs most of the day, dress for dinner but not fancy. DCs wear what they want, if want to stay in PJs fine. But, I am thinking I may make an effort this year and get dressed through the day and even make my DCs wear nice clothes. I will see how late I go to bed Christmas Eve and early I get up Christmas Day and see how much enthusiasm I have for this on the day 😆

WithIcePlease · 01/12/2022 20:01

Usually go for a walk so often trousers with a sparkly jumper so that I don't have to change

Sprouttreesareamazing · 01/12/2022 20:02

Slight digress but I work for a couple in their 80 's who get dressed for dinner every night!! As in twin set and pearls and him in a shirt and tie! Makes my heart swell tbh!

gamerchick · 01/12/2022 20:02

New PJs with a bra here. That's as far as I'm going.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 01/12/2022 20:04

How do people cook a roast in pyjamas without feeling grotty when they sit down to eat it in the same pj's? Or do you all wear a different set for the dinner?

inappropriateraspberry · 01/12/2022 20:04

We get dressed! Not usually anything full on, jeans and a sparkly top or whatever I'm given as a gift!
I couldn't spend the whole day in pjs, and its nice to make it feel a bit more special than a birthday or Sunday roast.

No no, it's LOUNGE WEAR!

Normally yes, but last 2 years I didn’t bother. Think I might this year.

Tr1skel1on · 01/12/2022 20:06

I will be dressed up, DH will be wearing his favourite festive tie, my 2 teenagers maybe not! However absolutely no PJS after breakfast . We'll all be out walking the dog on the beach.

I normally hate dressing smart but it's a special day and also my parents and sister will make an effort. I think I must be old fashioned, sometimes it's really nice to go above what you would normally do, even if it's just close family

NancyJoan · 01/12/2022 20:06

We always have my mum over, and also see friends for drinks, so make an effort to look nice, but even if it was just us, I’d still want to do something special to make the day special. The only time I would ever spend a whole day in PJ would be when extremely ill, and thankfully I’ve never been that sick at Christmas.

Because you change out of your sleeping pj's, to house wear Confused

We don't cook a roast. We order curries Christmas Eve for Christmas dinner. No cooking allowed.

hobbledyhoy · 01/12/2022 20:10

Yeah it was always a thing in our house that you got dressed up for Christmas Day, always made it feel a bit more special

Your assuming everyone cooks a roast

sleepwhenyouaredead · 01/12/2022 20:10

We all wear our newly gifted Christmas clothes so do get a bit dressed up. Definitely change after cooking

Stressybetty · 01/12/2022 20:11

Nope, I love being comfy. Growing up we always had to dress up as both sets of grandparents and sometimes an aunt and uncle would come for lunch and tea. Best dinner service, cutlery and wine glasses out and on best behaviour. Never enjoyed Christmas day then.

monsteronahill · 01/12/2022 20:12

Yes!! Fancy new pjs for the morning then a fancy outfit, a dress or glitzy top for the meal!

BabyFour2023 · 01/12/2022 20:13

We dress up, I absolutely love it! We host so have both my in laws and my parents plus all the siblings & their partners and our nieces and nephews. Sadly, this will be our first Christmas without mine and my husbands grandfathers but both our grannys will be here,
