Getting dressed up on Christmas day

Do you bother if you aren't going out, having guests or any visitors?

We might pop down to the beachfront so I'll make sure I've got a nice top but I don't think I'm even going to get dressed if we don't 😂

Good God no.

Comfy clothes (as always). It’s like a Sunday on crack.

chineapplepunks · 01/12/2022 21:07

The rule in our house is you have to be dressed for christmas dinner, outside of that it's whatever you want

stuntbubbles · 01/12/2022 21:08

Always dress up! I only wear pyjamas in the day if I’m horrendously ill.

I don't, but I get dressed as I would on any other day.

onlythreenow · 01/12/2022 21:13

I get dressed up (by my standards) if I am going out, or if someone is coming to my house. If I was spending the day home alone I would probably just wear normal clothes. Thankfully wearing pjs for Christmas Day is not a thing here - that is something I would never do.

MrsFionaCharming · 01/12/2022 21:23

We all get dressed up. I love clothes and like any excuse to wear something a bit more special. Including one year, we’d been discussing how all the women had a random black tie dress / ball gown type thing languishing in their wardrobes, so we decided to get really dressed up - tiaras and all.

WaahWaahWaah · 01/12/2022 21:24

If you get new pjs every Christmas, how many sets do you own? Mine are all years if not decades old but still perfectly serviceable. Am I doing pjs wrong somehow??

PurBal · 01/12/2022 21:25

Sunday best.

confusedlots · 01/12/2022 21:34

We always get dressed up for Christmas Day and I love it. Just maybe a nice knitted dress and boots, something a bit dressy but comfy too. The first year I was invited to my new in law's for Christmas Day I couldn't believe that they were all in pj's or loungewear, no make up etc!

ticktickticktickBOOM · 01/12/2022 21:34

I love this idea @MrsFionaCharming! I think we'll have a grand glam dress code this year!

OceanbreezeSun · 01/12/2022 21:35

I’ve always got dressed up, ever since I was a kid! We would spend the morning lounging in our pjs, but I also remember all my family excitedly getting changed into ‘our best’ clothes, ready for Christmas dinner.

I love putting something abit glitzy on, usually a sequin number and a spritz of a new perfume - it is Christmas after all!

saveforthat · 01/12/2022 21:42

ticktickticktickBOOM · 01/12/2022 20:25

Yeah but we didn't also sleep in them the night before.

Ok, this is obviously a fine Christmas tradition to leave the same clothes on for 24/32 hours. I just never realised that's all. It's all news to me.

It's definitely not a tradition. Personally I would never want to be in PJs during the day unless I was ill. Let alone Christmas day. I don't even sleep in them. Still each to their own I suppose.

SirenSays · 01/12/2022 21:45

Yes, I have a black sparkly dress this year. I'll change into lounge wear to walk the dogs in the evening

Not everyone sleeps in PJs. There's some imaginations on this thread

Changingmynameyetagain · 01/12/2022 21:53

I usually wear comfy stretchy trousers and a Christmas jumper of some sort. I’m not a dressy person at all, I like to be comfortable, DH usually wears jeans and a Christmas jumper.
I’m not bothered if the kids get dressed either, if they want to stay in their PJs all day that’s fine, so long as they have a wash and brush their teeth in the morning it really doesn’t matter.
We like Christmas to be a relaxed day, my mum and MIL come over for dinner but we don’t have anyone else visiting, we usually visit on Boxing Day instead.

Apologies, yes, another wild generalisation to assume that people sleep in pyjamas

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 01/12/2022 21:57

I like a nice outfit for Christmas Day, but it has be something comfy. This year I have velvet dungarees.

CountrySky · 01/12/2022 22:04

Always dress up in our house even if just us (usually is) and did as a child, I love it! everyone in PJs whilst opening stockings and some presents. Whilst DC are playing we go get ready then they do before Xmas lunch.

I always cook with an apron on anyway. I wear a nice dress or sequin top type thing, earrings and perfume. I’m almost certainly wearing slippers though 😂 Full on table decorations, those start on Xmas Eve.

Often go for a walk so might get changed later in the evening.

Boxing Day we’re in PJs for longer but also have a sit down meal so get dressed for that, not as fancy but we like it. Post Boxing Day it’s hiking boots, waterproofs and scruffs.

I don't sleep in clothes so I get up and put pj's or lounge wear on to wear in the house Confused

Getting dressed up is one of the Christmas Day rituals in my household - no scruffiness allowed!

1983Louise · 01/12/2022 22:15

We always dress up, when my daughter was little she always had a new dress and she now does the for her daughter.

Startuplife · 01/12/2022 22:32

Always glam here, I love it!

This year we’re hosting for the first time and I even have time allotted in my cooking itinerary for taking out my rollers before guests arrive 😂

Teebles007 · 01/12/2022 22:37

Always dress up. Lots of glitter and glam, eldest DS always wears Santa outfit, DD a tutu and fairy wings ( yes they are adults). PJ's for breakfast only.

runlittlemonster · 01/12/2022 22:38

Yes, I love to dress up in a formal dress and sparkly cardi, earrings etc! The in laws are a bit fat shamey (i‘m a size 12 😬) so it’s a bit nerve wracking but I can’t imagine spending the day in pyjamas.
