Getting dressed up on Christmas day

Do you bother if you aren't going out, having guests or any visitors?

We might pop down to the beachfront so I'll make sure I've got a nice top but I don't think I'm even going to get dressed if we don't 😂

How do people cook a roast in pyjamas without feeling grotty when they sit down to eat it in the same pj's? Or do you all wear a different set for the dinner?

Surely those wearing clothes cook and sit to eat in the same clothes?

Cosycover · 01/12/2022 20:15

For me Christmas is all about eating. All day. Food food food. Absolutely no doable all done up. Lounge wear here. I will buy a new set though.

BeansOnToast32 · 01/12/2022 20:20

If I didn't have a puppy to walk I'd be in PJs all day, instead I'll wear thermal leggings, and a jumper just so I can walk the dog. To be honest though, I've just bought the Didriksons Leya Long Parka, it's that long you wouldn't be able to see much of my PJ bottoms if I had boots on but I don't think I'd actually be able to go out knowing I had PJs on even if other people wouldn't be able to tell. 😂

Your assuming everyone cooks a roast

Apologies, yes, that was a huge generalisation

softpilllow · 01/12/2022 20:14

Yeah but we didn't also sleep in them the night before.

Ok, this is obviously a fine Christmas tradition to leave the same clothes on for 24/32 hours. I just never realised that's all. It's all news to me.

Colgated · 01/12/2022 20:27

Family members we spent Christmas with sent us the memo that we’d all be “wearing fancy clothes” on Christmas Day. I did my best (black dress - all I could find as I was bf a weeks old baby!), they asked if I had anything to change into (!!). They were wearing rent-the-runway type designer clothes. That’s their thing and it’s fine and fun for them - but not my style at all! I like being comfortable!

Pebbles16 · 01/12/2022 20:27

I have my trusty festive dress from BHS (yes, it's that old). It's a bit sparkly and very comfy whilst I am being festive fairy, present elf and chief cook and bottle washer (caveat: It's my choice, I decline ALL help, because it is my time to spoil the people that I love)

We don't cook a roast. We order curries Christmas Eve for Christmas dinner. No cooking allowed.

So you cook nothing, don't get dressed. What do you do all day? Genuine question

DillDanding · 01/12/2022 20:28

We have a houseful, so I feel obliged to be glam on Christmas day. But I enjoy that. I do absolutely none of the cooking though, I just swan around topping up drinks.

Boxing day to new year (apart from NY eve) I'll be in satin pj's, apart from on dog walks.

Eleusa · 01/12/2022 20:29

Christmas jumper and jeans in the morning.
Dress in the afternoon, this sort of thing.

No one else changes though so I’m always there in some sparkly number while everyone else is in jeans.

maddiemookins16mum · 01/12/2022 20:29

Not anymore, smart jeans and my best Christmas jumper will suffice.

HiGunny · 01/12/2022 20:32

I dress up but in something like a jumper dress so it's still comfy and there's room for expansion 😁 And it has to go with slippers!

softpilllow · 01/12/2022 20:34

Clean pyjamas exist.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 01/12/2022 20:35

Being naturists, we just put on some jokey reindeer 🦌antlers and take extra care with the holly decorating the Christmas Pud. 😯

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 01/12/2022 20:41

@ticktickticktickBOOM Our DCs are still young, we spend the day chilling, playing with toys, building things, watching Christmas movies, eating our favourite brunch. Dinner is an evening affair for us, after that a quick game then bed for the kids. We haven’t had visitors on Christmas Day for a few years which is great as we can do our own thing.

DHs family do a big family get together, we don’t go, my decision. DH is happy at home and I’ve asked the dcs if they want to go and be with all their cousins but they choose to stay home and enjoy their presents. So we do the big dress up Christmas thing another time with the rest of the family.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 01/12/2022 20:45

It sounds perfect @ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS

userxx · 01/12/2022 20:46

Dress and boots usually, this year it's just me the boyfriend and the dog. I'm thinking velour joggers would fit the bill.

roundtable · 01/12/2022 20:46

Since realising that wearing anything bright really winds up a family member ( who never wear anything more than black unless it's a pair of jeans) I go full hog in an elf outfit or something along those lines.

They secretly love it and it gives them something to be mock outraged about. I haven't thought about this year's outfit yet though. Not until I've finished work before Christmas.

foxy86 · 01/12/2022 20:49

This year i’m thinking sod it and wearing pjs. I’m going to wear new pjs and slippers and I’m going to cook in them and sit in them all day and watch Christmas films. Not sure what hubby and son are doing though, they can please themselves. I just can’t be arsed!

Benjispruce4 · 01/12/2022 20:51

Yes we make an effort but comfortable.

Oneofthosewsillydays · 01/12/2022 21:00

We just get dressed as though we're going for a nice lunch/meal somewhere. So for me usually a nice top
If I've been given jewellery I usually wear that as well, it is a tradition I follow through with from when I was a child. The one and onl6 time I stayed in nightwear on Christmas day was when I was heavily pregnant with dc1. The relatives who were meant to host had viruses, so me and dh were on our own for the first time ever! It was amazing and I needless to say I was very relieved to no5 be uncomfortable in somebody else's house. I even went to bed for a nap after my big dinner lol the stuff of dreams!

MarmiteMama17 · 01/12/2022 21:01

We have matching shorts and t shirts and I’ll think about brushing my hair, fuck that

BrightSaturn · 01/12/2022 21:03

I always wear my new Christmas pjs! I might put a bit of make up on for dinner so I can have fancy prosecco 😂

Blendandmix · 01/12/2022 21:07

I love getting dressed up for Xmas! Makes it feel abit more special

80sMum · 01/12/2022 21:07

ScottishLavender · 01/12/2022 19:59

We do dress up - there's only the two of us so we set the table properly, have mulled wine in the conservatory before lunch, retire to the lounge with a cafetière for the Speech from Buck House, and make it as ceremonial as possible. Otherwise it'd be any other Sunday in winter.

That sounds so heavenly! I would love to have a quiet Christmas like that, maybe go out for a bracing walk in the afternoon, come home and light the log burner.
The older I get, the more I feel the need for calm and peace and a quiet life!
