If you were gifted £250 with the instruction to spend it all on yourself on one day in one town what would you buy?
Genuine question , this has happened to me and tomorrow is the day.

A memory of the person and some treats

QueenOfHiraeth · 30/11/2022 12:48

Jewellery? Nice bag? Coat?

Is there a shop like a John Lewis with a personal shopper? Or a Harvey Nicks Beauty where you could have a beauty treatment with fizz then treat yourself?
Anything for a hobby or interest?
It very much depends on your likes and dislikes

Bestcatmum · 30/11/2022 12:50

I'd be spending mine on etsy on my niche hobby.

AriettyHomily · 30/11/2022 12:50

Would depend on the town for me

KnickerlessParsons · 30/11/2022 12:51

I'd blow the lot in Sea Salt.

tulips27 · 30/11/2022 12:52

I'd buy decent winter boots, they make such a difference to your comfort and it's something where quality really shows.

theswoot · 30/11/2022 12:52

Fancy perfume and something to wear!

LondonLovie · 30/11/2022 12:52

I would either get myself a nice dress ring, or blow it in the Swetty Betty sale and then go for fish and chips and a pint of beer in a lovely pub.

TheChosenTwo · 30/11/2022 12:54

I’d book a couple of massages.
how will the donator of the money know if you’ve followed the instructions to the letter? You can just say thanks, I bought myself some new boots and ordered a bag or something similar can’t you?!

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 30/11/2022 12:54

Sainsbury's/Tesco's vouchers, so I could spend it on groceries and spend the equivalent £250 on a gift at the time and in the place of my choice.

thegreylady · 30/11/2022 12:55

My friend ( the giver) is shopping with me .

Assuming you lived near London or a city with some nice restaurants and shopping I would head into town first thing, treat myself to a coffee and a pastry in a nice cafe (let's say for ease one of the nice ones inside Selfridges), then have a leisurely browse through the shops taking time to try on different things I normally wouldn't necessarily buy because they're out of my price range or just hadn't even considered. And then later on decide what I liked best and treat myself to one or a few things depending on the cost. Then I would end the day with a glass of champagne in one of their restaurants there before I returned to the chaos at home. Although I would return much more happy and relaxed having enjoyed a nice leisurely day on my own.

Do the above and treat her to a glass of champagne then too. Enjoy yourself!!

MiniDinosaur · 30/11/2022 12:57

A lovely new bag in the sale

AtleastitsnotMonday · 30/11/2022 13:08

I would be heading to the white company first and buy one of their lovely room deffusers and probably a nice jumper or similar. Next Mint Velvet then on for a leisurely lunch.

Dolleey · 30/11/2022 13:10

Really nice lunch for you and your friend. Then, either a jumper that I’ve got my eye on or a few books plus something indulgent like Aesop shower gel or body lotion that I love but can’t otherwise justify.

FlamingoQueen · 30/11/2022 13:12

A new bag and a fabulous lunch (not Maccie D’s!)

Oooh yes!! I've always wanted one of the Aesop pumice soaps. And the. I'd keep it hidden in my ensuite bathroom so the children and husband wouldn't use it 😂

SweetSakura · 30/11/2022 13:15

Lovely scented candles, some decent shoes or boots and a huge pile of books ☺️

Dreamsoffreedomjoyandpeace · 30/11/2022 13:26

I’d get a massage first so that I could breeze around the shops. Then I’d buy a bottle of Shalimar, a handbag and some nice bits to go in the handbag.

thegreylady · 30/11/2022 14:08

Some lovely ideas here. I am a full time carer for my husband who is bed bound. A day out is a treasure. He goes to daycare one day a week. My friends husband was dying/died eventually and I went to her as often as I could. She wants us to enjoy a special day. My husband’s son and his wife are coming today till Friday to look after him. The plan is a shopping day, lunch out and a visit to Hotel Chocolate. Then we will go back to hers for a takeaway, binge watching Detectorists and an uninterrupted night’s sleep.

@thegreylady that sounds lovely, I hope you enjoy every minute.

YaWeeSkitter · 30/11/2022 14:23

I would buy an e reader and some ebooks. Ive been a carer and finding time to read was something I missed. An ereader meant I could take it with me wherever I was and the page was kept when I had to put it down quickly.

I would also buy some lovely jewellery . I dont go out that much so new clothes arent high on my list of treats but I love good quality sparkly things. I can even wear them naked if I choose 😝

If there was some money left I would maybe get some nice cashmere fingerless gloves in a pretty colour because I hate having cold hands

Ive just checked and John Lewis have everything on the list except the books which you get online or from a library anyway.

Hmmm - might just check out John Lewis for myself.

Minniem2020 · 30/11/2022 14:33

You and your friend both sound lovely. I hope you enjoy your day.

PrincessFiorimonde · 30/11/2022 14:35

Hope you have a fabulous day, OP.
