If you were gifted £250 with the instruction to spend it all on yourself on one day in one town what would you buy?
Genuine question , this has happened to me and tomorrow is the day.

Sounds like you have a lovely friend. For me it would be new footwear. Either vans or converse, maybe some winter boots. Pop to boots and get some nice new perfume. A necklace. I hope you enjoy your day

OneFrenchEgg · 30/11/2022 14:46

I'd get a new piercing, a hardback book, and a really warm jumper from somewhere lovely.

pocketvenuss · 30/11/2022 14:51

what a lovely plan. Have an absolutely fabulous day

gogohmm · 30/11/2022 15:48

An outfit. Or new boots from Jones, lunch at the French place with glass of wine

Some lovely ideas here. I am a full time carer for my husband who is bed bound. A day out is a treasure. He goes to daycare one day a week. My friends husband was dying/died eventually and I went to her as often as I could. She wants us to enjoy a special day. My husband’s son and his wife are coming today till Friday to look after him. The plan is a shopping day, lunch out and a visit to Hotel Chocolate. Then we will go back to hers for a takeaway, binge watching Detectorists and an uninterrupted night’s sleep.

Sounds like a fantastic day, enjoy

lilachouse · 30/11/2022 15:54

Have a fantastic time! I’d buy some nice clothes to enjoy wearing now rather than ‘keep for best’ and a perfume

spiderlight · 30/11/2022 15:56

I could burn through that in Waterstone's in about an hour, or in a camera shop. I hope you have a lovely day.

DeFacto · 30/11/2022 15:58

I think I'd just have a browse and then spend it on something completely frivolous.

I've never regretted frivolous purchases after a slightly boozy lunch, they're always the things you'd really like to buy.

Have a lovely day.

MintyGreenDreams · 30/11/2022 16:00

Botox

Heartonmysleevee · 30/11/2022 16:01

I would of done a 1/2 day Spa, afternoon tea or the Ivy is nice for a treat OP.

teapotfullofsquash · 30/11/2022 16:03

I'd get new dr martens for a start! I hope you and your friend have a lovely day tomorrow and a really restful nights sleep

BertieBotts · 30/11/2022 16:14

Nice lunch/coffee and cake with friend.

Winter boots

Then I need some warm trousers that actually fit.

I would like a couple more pairs of pyjamas. Maybe another dressing gown.

If there's any left (probably, I don't have very expensive taste) I'd look around and see what caught my fancy.

TK Maxx is usually worth a browse.

thegreylady · 01/12/2022 00:12

I’ll tell you about it afterwards! I can’t sleep I am so excited. I want a special bauble each for the tree so we will remember the day. I will smuggle hers into her Christmas gift. I saw a lovely jumper in Seasalt so I might buy that…..

That sounds lovely so far. I'd spend it on lunch with cocktails somewhere I'd normally consider to be too expensive. Then some nice cookbooks or coffee table type books.

Definitely a few things in Hotel Chocolat. Maybe some artwork. Are there museums or art galleries in the town you're visiting that have gift shops.

I've probably gone over the £250 haven't I?

KangarooKenny · 01/12/2022 07:28

A nice pair of Chelsea boots.

TheChosenTwo · 01/12/2022 07:36

I hope you have a really great day with your friend today OP, you sound like someone who is very deserving of a bit of retail therapy and a bit of down time 💐
come back and tell/show us what you chose!

FlamingoQueen · 01/12/2022 08:25

Enjoy your day.

willingtolearn · 01/12/2022 08:55

What a fabulous friend, which suggests you are the same to them.

Have a terrific day.

Lots of sensible suggestions here - I would probably be less sensible and spend money on Lego, books and chocolate.

That's what I would do. I agree OP and friend sound lovely, hope you're enjoying yourselves ❤️

Just in bed after an absolutely perfect day. We began in Hotel Chocolat then went to the Works for books, Boots for perfume then White Suff where my friend bought a jacket and a jumper. Next we went to Seasalt and I spent £99.99 on a merino wool cardigan in a patchwork pattern (the most I have ever spent on a cardi) I also bought a dark teal gilet which I fell in love with weeks ago) . Next was lunch and we shared a chicken wrap, fries and tea. I was getting tired by now though the walker really helps. We went to Flying Tiger and I convinced my friend that buying baubles was allowed. I bought two green and blue glittery globes, one each, and a few other bits. The final stop was M&S food dept then back to hers for a meal and as promised a binge watch of Detectorists. I rang dh and his ds and ddil had looked after him beautifully. All in all a memorable and magical day ending in the knowledge that a quiet night should be possible with no worries about dh. Thank you all for being interested I wanted to share with someone. Yes my friend is amazing and has been for the 50 years we have been friends.

I wish posts had a like facility. You deserve your special day, glad it was awesome

meowzeer · 02/12/2022 00:27

Thats amazing op. Well done for having such a lovely self care day. Hopefully this has recharged your batteries and you are able to have another self care day again when needed, so so important in the role of carers. What a lovely friendship.

determinedtomakethiswork · 02/12/2022 00:36

What a perfect day. You have been a great friend and you have a great friend. You are both really lucky. I hope your husband managed without you. 💐

LadyEloise1 · 02/12/2022 00:41

Have a great day @thegreylady.
You deserve it.

I'd buy the medium black Kensington bag in Kurt Geiger.
But that won't be happening Smile

OnTheUpAtLast · 02/12/2022 00:44

What a fabulous update op.
Your post reads as though your buzzing from it all.
Wishing you a decent sleep that you wake up from feeling restored and reinvigorated.
