Help me change my name please

For a long time, I've wanted to change my first name for various family reasons.

My name is Karen but I can't think of anything I like that is linked even in a small way. It can't be Kate as have two in the family already.

Oh and it's not because of the current connotation within the name!

All suggestions considered 😀

Eleanor

Rogley · 23/11/2022 14:36

Is Katherine/Kathryn too similar to Kate? Do you want it to begin with a K still?

RedRobyn2021 · 23/11/2022 14:36

Good for you, you should change your name if you don't like it.

Beees · 23/11/2022 14:37

What about something like Wren? Taking the end sound of Karen means it still sounds similar to what you're used to but is also a completely different name?

Threadkillacilla · 23/11/2022 14:37

Caroline?

TheBirdintheCave · 23/11/2022 14:38

Ren if you want to keep some connection to your old name? Or Renata, Renee, Lauren, Marren etc.

I like this idea, Wren is nice too

NoSquirrels · 23/11/2022 14:39

Why do you want it to be linked if you dislike it enough to change it?

Cara/Kara might work?

Catherine/Katherine is the same meaning (pure).

What sort of link do you want?

PiggyInTheLidl · 23/11/2022 14:39

I really like Carrie .

I don’t like my name much, and if I could be bothered to change it I would be Nancy, Harriet or Ruth.

Cryingbutstilltrying · 23/11/2022 14:40

Wren is fab, I love that.
I’ve always liked Kasia if you want a k name.
Kaye is also nice.

What is it about the name Karen that you don’t like? Might help to rule out others that could be unappealing?

Thesoundsthatcarry · 23/11/2022 14:41

Do you have a middle name?

Beees · 23/11/2022 14:41

Why do you want it to be linked if you dislike it enough to change it?

Presumably so it's easier for both herself and friends/families to make the change. If you've spent your whole life being called on name you're much more likely to look up and respond if the new one bears a resemblance.

GolfForBrains · 23/11/2022 14:42

I work with a Karis, you could also do Carys or Cerys?

SalviaOfficinalis · 23/11/2022 14:42

I assume you don’t have an amazing middle name waiting in the wings?

Do you want to keep the same initial?

Katrina?

Y7drama · 23/11/2022 14:43

I think I’d go Cara or Carrie.

MossGrowsFat · 23/11/2022 14:44

Another vote for Cara or Carrie. Both are great names and would think it would be less jarring to have a name that sounds similar to your original name.

pincushion5 · 23/11/2022 14:54

I like Katrina

Cleanthatup · 23/11/2022 14:57

Hi, I Chaged my name recently. I had the worlds worst name and it was truly affecting me in my professional life.

I just picked a name that I like and that was easy to say/spell. Problem solved!

tulips27 · 23/11/2022 15:16

Cara sounds lovely.

ByebyeKaren · 23/11/2022 18:05

Thanks everyone! I'm liking Cara. What do you think about it spelt with a K?

To answer a few questions, I feel a bit trapped by my name - hard to explain. Parent issues!

Unfortunately no great middle name to be used.

I love Wren too but would ideally like to stick with a K initial but accept that may not be possible.

Open to more ideas!

Kara with a K is fine. Hope you do it and it makes you happy!

ByebyeKaren · 23/11/2022 18:08

Only problem with Kara is we have a Lara in the family. I really like Kara though.

I've just gone through my contacts and these are all perfectly normal names for women in the age ranges age 30-50. Probably older and younger too.

Best of luck!
