Help me change my name please

For a long time, I've wanted to change my first name for various family reasons.

My name is Karen but I can't think of anything I like that is linked even in a small way. It can't be Kate as have two in the family already.

Oh and it's not because of the current connotation within the name!

If you like Cara or Kara, but you still think it's too close to Lara, how about Carla?

I love Cara/ Kara.
One of my favourite names is the Cornish name Carenza and I believe it is sometimes spelt Karenza or Kerensa.
I don't know if that's a bit similar to Karen though!

I changed my first and last name and I spent about a year considering different names.

I wanted to drop my name because of childhood abuse, but I consulted very close friends and my dh - and even had a thread on here.

In the end I started using my married name (after 16 yrs!), kept my middle name and dropped two middle letters from my original name - think Maria to Mia.

I have felt a bit embarrassed at times but my friends have been brilliant. I am only in contact with one member of my birth family and they really struggle but they are very supportive.

I love Kara! It's a different sound, with a fresher feel but I think having the same initial would seem less of a leap. Not that you have to justify this decision to anybody.

I also like just Kay which I don't htink you would need to change legally, you could really just use Kay.

My advice would be to just go with the name which you really like.

Kara is lovely and if it feels right, just go for it!

Ren is lovely

It could be short for Renée which might be appropriate given the meaning.

From wiki ‘ Renée is the female form of René, with the extra –e making it feminine according to French grammar.The name Renée is the French form of the late Roman name Renatus and the meaning is reborn or born again.’

The name Karen in French is a variant of Catherine so what about other names with the same meaning ‘clear’ or ‘pure’.

Don't do a Wren or anything sounding similar to Karen because people will continue to call you the old version they're used to. I would suggest going for a name that spells and sounds completely different.
