Personally, I don't understand them. To me they look very grannyish.

I find them very elegant. Better than boob/back overfill.

Double0FeckingBollocks · 20/11/2022 07:39

I'm not sure what there is to understand. We all like different things 🤷‍♀️ Personally I like them.

NashvilleQueen · 20/11/2022 07:40

I much prefer them to the endless strapless dresses that se to be everywhere. High neck dresses can look very elegant. They don't look as good with bigger busts because then they can seem matronly. But that's juist a case of the dress not working with the body type.

I'm with @Hellosunshine1993.
I think it also depends on the shape and size of the bride. A high necked wedding dress would absolutely suit my tall, willowy DD but would look rather matronly on someone much more curvy.

I dislike the ubiquitous strapless look for wedding dresses.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 20/11/2022 08:00

I prefer the demure and modest look.

ofwarren · 20/11/2022 08:16

I think they look beautiful. My favourite type of wedding dress.

Justleaveitblankthen · 20/11/2022 08:19

I like them. Think it's very traditional and in keeping with the 'white/purity' tradition.
Not a big fan of the Bride's 'boobs akimbo' look.

Would feel the same if the Groom didn't wear a tie or rocked up in Trainers.

Zanatdy · 20/11/2022 08:21

I like it, but maybe a little lower than that one

toastedcat · 20/11/2022 08:22

I like them too. Thought Ellie Goulding's was unexpectedly lovely.

Would add a pic but every time I try, the only options are photos from six months ago in my camera roll 🤷‍♀️

Ethelswith · 20/11/2022 08:23

What's wrong with looking "grannyish" ?

Age is not a bad or pejorative thing (though casual ageism is both)

I had a high neck as I was in a fabulous 1950s original dress, which also had long close fitting sleeves that came to a point on the back of my hand - made that way because it obviated the need for gloves.

I thought I looked fantastic in that style.

And of course realise that not everyone has the same taste

Etinoxaurus · 20/11/2022 08:23

You posted a picture of a woman on her wedding day and said grannyish.
Nice.

DemsDaRulz · 20/11/2022 08:26

Are you choosing your dress then @Zrt ?

Trulyweird1 · 20/11/2022 08:27

That’s a beautiful bride and a beautiful dress.

Different styles suit different brides, but I like the more demure styles.

xalo · 20/11/2022 08:27

I would see a confident woman - happy to choose an elegant stylish dress.

Sausagedoggy · 20/11/2022 08:29

Very lovely if you have a small bust. Terrible for those of us with larger chests.

NashvilleQueen · 20/11/2022 08:33

I was watching an episode of the US version of Say Yes to the Dress and I'm sure they said to one bride that they didn't have any dresses with sleeves. How ridiculous is that?!

Obviouspretzel · 20/11/2022 08:33

The one you posted is lovely.

Milknosugarta · 20/11/2022 08:34

I'm having a higher neckline next time I get married 👰

declutteringmymind · 20/11/2022 08:35

It depends on if it suits the person. Me with my broad shoulders, short neck and big head, no.

But willowy long necked types, yes.

Unbridezilla · 20/11/2022 08:36

Beautiful and elegant if you have a small bust, narrow shoulders and are generally gamine. Not my shape unfortunately. Also why shouldn't wedding dresses cater for women who feel more comfortable covered up, or who want to for social/religious reasons? They deserve beautiful options too.

I also much prefer it to strapless, which now looks old fashioned to me. And I find the corset dresses with visible boning, too underwear-like and slik sheath dresses can vear into nightie on the wrong figure.

But that is the joy of wedding dresses, each one looks amazing on the right person and meh, or bloody awful on the wrong one. It's been lovely wedding dress shopping at the moment because there is genuinely so many styles in fashion that you can find something that is perfect for you.

crossstitchingnana · 20/11/2022 08:41

I too prefer this to yet another strapless dress or plunging neckline.

GroggyLegs · 20/11/2022 08:44

I had a lace high necked lace jacket over a strapless dress, hopefully annoying everyone on this thread.

People like different stuff. End.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 20/11/2022 08:46

I really like them. Look much more elegant than boobs on show.

silverclock222 · 20/11/2022 08:47

I think if the bride is happy it's no concerned of anyone else's.

Fieldfly · 20/11/2022 08:48

Anything is preferable to strapless! I’ve never liked strapless wedding dresses, at least now they look dated so hopefully less will choose them. The dress in the pic is lovely, so elegant.
