Well I love them NOW that we par boil them then fry them in garlic butter, add pine nuts, bits of crispy bacon and finish them off with a sprinkling of parmesan.

But the brussel sprouts served up circa 1988, nope.

This you have to do them properly with lots of butter. Boiled brussels unseasoned are disgusting.

Thecomfortador · 19/11/2022 10:22

Love them also. Yes to fried, with salt and pepper and lot ls.of butter, but also I like them boiled. If they're not over cooked they don't seem to give the flatulence issues. Interesting comment about them being milder than they used to, I wonder if the nutritional content has changed too?

CakeCrumbs44 · 19/11/2022 10:27

I'm pretty neutral. Not a popular opinion I'm sure, I'll eat them if they're on my plate but I wouldn't go for seconds.

@Georgeskitchen

fresh ones fried with smoked lardons and garlic - heaven

Brandymakesmerandy · 19/11/2022 10:33

I love them but don't like them cooked any other way than boiled in plain water. And definitely not with bacon 🤮

Plump82 · 19/11/2022 12:46

Does anyone know anyways to make frozen ones a bit more exciting?

lmnabc · 19/11/2022 12:51

Love them but prefer the proper old style variety from my childhood to the modern ones

Love them. I always have a bag of frozen ones in the freezer.

Since I've got an air fryer and found that I can cook them in there, I'm getting pretty addicted!

How long do you cook them in the air fryer for from frozen please?

FallingsHowIFeel · 19/11/2022 12:59

Love them, one of my favourite vegetables.

workingeverysingkeday · 19/11/2022 13:01

I love them. When I do my meal prep for work it's always a huge pan of sprouts. Delicious

Rebelmcstreettuff · 19/11/2022 13:08

Disgusting vegetables, that's why everyone needs to "pimp them up" to make them edible.

Fluffygreenslippers · 19/11/2022 13:12

I love them but I can no longer tolerate them thanks to my ibs. I get awful pain and fart for hours. :/

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 19/11/2022 13:24

The devil’s vegetable. Anything you have to cover in cheese, bacon and cream to make it remotely reasonable is generally unpleasant!

RandomNortherner · 19/11/2022 13:24

I have the eating age of a 5 year old and cannot tolerate them terribly well. One of my DCs calls them fart bombs. I think it's the years of eating mushy, over cooked ones, that has scarred me. If they are cooked the way they should be, they are tolerable (better with crispy bacon bits). DH thinks they are a joy to behold, with red cabbage as a close second. I beg to differ.

rubydoobydoo · 19/11/2022 13:26

They are the devil's testicles.

Iliveinanoodie · 19/11/2022 09:32

Love sprouts. Apparently they are so much milder and sweeter nowadays compared to the bitter ones of grandparent's experience.
They've been bred different or something!!

I’m sure you are right about them being much less bitter nowadays, @Iliveinanoodie - I really disliked them as a child. Mum and dad used to bribe dsis and I to eat them - they always had them with chestnuts, which we loved, but we had to have a sprout for every chestnut we had.

I really enjoy sprouts now - dh and I love it when they are in the supermarket, and probably have them every week.

I also enjoy them in bubble and squeak, with leftover cold roast chicken.

TheMorigoul · 19/11/2022 13:31

Love them! Even the frozen ones. Didn't like them until I was 25ish.

SquigglePigs · 19/11/2022 13:35

Hate them!

DH and my parents love them though. DD agrees with me!

ApolloandDaphne · 19/11/2022 13:41

Love them cooked any way.

beachcomber70 · 19/11/2022 14:01

Love them, especially the small nutty ones. Always buy and cook them when fresh whether boiling [for only a few minutes], or frying. I often slice them thinly into a salad. And gorgeous in bubble and sqeak.
If they are old, outside leaves going yellow they are then sulphurous and will be awful. Buy and use fresh then they shouldn't give you wind.

IHeartGeneHunt · 19/11/2022 14:05

I love them. I'm having Brussel sprouts and potato gratin for dinner tonight.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 19/11/2022 14:33

Me and dh love them. Dc not so much but still eats them, since he saw a poster that told him brussels sprouts have all the vitamins, and one of the best veg.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 19/11/2022 14:58

I can tolerate them enough to have a few small ones on my plate on Xmas day. The left overs I can tolerate provided they're mixed into bubble and squeak that's been fried in the frying pan to get nice crispy burnt edges

Therealjudgejudy · 19/11/2022 15:03

Love them! Would eat a plate full covered in gravy!

Bluegingerbread · 19/11/2022 15:15

Love them. Mostly just boiled but also fry them or use them in chicken traybake.
