Stickman and Paper Dolls both by Julia Donaldson.

Also Bye Bye Baby by the Ahlbergs. Dear god! 😭

Goodbye Mog. I had to try very hard not to give in to full on ugly crying in the library when DD picked it up and asked me to read it.

Wherever you go, my love will find you. By Nancy Tillman, struggle to stop the tears while reading it to my baby 😂🙈

It should have a warning on the cover.

MassiveSalad22 · 18/11/2022 16:15

Bye Bye Baby was my favourite book as a kid (I remember liking how devastating it is as he walks down the road on his own…) and my mum had to read it over and over 😂

i cry at any Nancy Tillman books

Me too. I've read that book many, many times now and I still find myself getting choked up!

Omg so I have all the Mog books apart from that one. I love Mog and so does my son. I’ve been putting off buying it!

Flipping Dogger. Couldn’t get through that without crying

TheaBrandt · 18/11/2022 16:18

Find those “love you to the moon and back” type ones quite sappy rather than moving

BiscuitLover3678 · 18/11/2022 16:19

I’ve thought of another one. Gorilla. It breaks my heart how the gorilla was basically her dad.

Dogger and Badgers Parting Gifts.

inappropriateraspberry · 18/11/2022 16:22

Paper Dolls every time! Used to read it to my daughter when she was tiny and could never get through it without tears!

JustDanceAddict · 18/11/2022 16:23

Love You to the Moon and Back
Owl Babies
The Lorax

TheForgetfulCat · 18/11/2022 16:23

A generation back but did anyone have The Elephant and the Bad Baby?

'Please, I want to go home to my Mummy'

My kids enjoyed the happy anarchy and the Bad Baby's mummy making pancakes for everyone so god knows what it hit in my psyche . But I still can't read it without having a minor meltdown.

stressbucket1 · 18/11/2022 16:24

The velveteen rabbit
And paper dolls

TheForgetfulCat · 18/11/2022 16:24

Can't you sleep Little Bear?

When Little Bear goes to sleep 'warm and safe in Big Bears arms'.

Oh dear

ChessieFL · 18/11/2022 16:26

The Snowman

IsabelaYourBoyfriendsHere · 18/11/2022 16:26

My favourite is 'Baggy Brown' by Mick Inkpen. It's just so bloody sweet at the end, I choke up every time I read it to my kids.

Also 'Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes' by Mem Fox - "a sweet little child who was mine, all mine". 😭
It's my baby's favourite book, she just loves all the pictures of the different babies.

purser25 · 18/11/2022 16:26

Badgers parting gifts. I was making a story sack for a for a child who had lost his Mother it really choked me up. Goodbye Mog I was in Waterstones soon after it came out. They said they didn’t want to open the boxes it was in a said Judith Kerr was a cat killer. Met Judith once a delightful lady she said a lot of the stories were based on realm life events with her cats.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 18/11/2022 16:27

TheForgetfulCat we have The Elephant and The Bad Baby, but I can’t say it has affected me that much.
Goodbye Mog, on the other hand, I tear up just thinking about it.

inappropriateraspberry · 18/11/2022 16:28

Not a book, but I cry every time at the beginning of The Snowman and the Snowdog.
