The most loved bear

ImHavingAnOldFriendForDinner · 18/11/2022 17:39

Goodnight Moon for some weird reason because there isn't actually anything sad about it!

Also I read A Night Before Christmas every Christmas Eve to the kids and without fail I cry which the kids find amusing!

Peepo...its so sweet and lovely and warm hearted

Cried my eyes out at Goodbye Mog

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 18/11/2022 17:45

I came on to say Paper Dolls.
Also, Ruby Flew Too. Just thinking about that one is making me tear. 😄

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 18/11/2022 17:46

There’s one about dinosaurs called Am I Yours.

Picked it up completely randomly in the book shop and it’s about a lonely egg that’s rolled out of its nest, and is asking all the dinosaurs if they are theirs. Actually makes me tear up.

Paper dolls, the bit where everything is a memory, including the granny, and then the girl becomes a mother herself. Reminds me of the passing of time when reading it with my little ones.

Wondering if that is the reason why others well up or for something entirely different?!

holierthanthou73 · 18/11/2022 17:50

Will always be Guess How Much How Love You, been over 20 years since I read it but welling up just thinking about it

Got2besoon · 18/11/2022 17:51

Robert Munsch "Love you forever".

BiscuitLover3678 · 18/11/2022 17:51

Paper Dolls - when the dolls fly into her memory 😭

I love the Mog books, but I pretend that Goodbye Mog doesn’t exist. Can’t bear to think about it!

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. Similar with mog really. As a parent especially I think it’s beautiful but sad that time goes on. Also it’s subtle. Also just the fact the boy destroyed them! 😭

in bye bye baby when the mother says “I’m a mummy without a little baby” and pushes the empty pram 😭

Frog and the Birdsong by Max Velthuijs
I mean, just stop it! 😭😭😭
It’s about death and the beauty of life.
Little Frog and friends find a motionless bird and don’t understand why. And then they do understand and they lay him to rest.
Beautiful story but… I couldn’t cope. Between the loss of my baby daughter and later my brother and parents/PILs in between, I had to give the book away.

Does no one else love Stickman? I find it so sad somehow. He just wants to be with his family and he spends all the time desperately trying to get back to them and to be noticed as who he is, but he can never be heard. And then he’s basically dying and then after he helps Santa he is finally noticed. And in the end he manages to get back to his family. It makes me think so much of struggle some people go through.

I had three IVF miscarriages before my boy.

I can’t get past “I wanted you more than ever you’ll know”, the first line of Wherever You Go My Love Will Find You.

😭😭😭

BiscuitLover3678 · 18/11/2022 17:57

Maybe it’s the silently suffocating and no one knows thing that gets me

The last page of The Polar Express. The magic of believing in Santa Claus is so beautifully expressed.

Turtles4543 · 18/11/2022 18:02

A little match girl, I’d forgotten about it until my DD found it on youtube

Toomanypressie · 18/11/2022 18:04

@Lividity i a couple of miscarriages before by second DD and that line also gets me for the same reason! 😭😭 ‘I wanted you more than you will ever know, so my love will follow you wherever you go….’

Toomanypressie · 18/11/2022 18:05

@Turtles4543 oh yes the little match girl, that haunted me as a child

Stardewbeam · 18/11/2022 18:05

Yes to Paper Dolls ‘and a kind granny’ gets me every time 😭

DD & I have just finished reading Goodnight Mr Tom…blimey I’d forgotten just how sad it is and how many times! I basically sobbed my way through it with dd gently comforting me every now & then!
