Bloody Ocado

Quirrelsotherface · 13/11/2022 09:05

I am done. There are always substitutions lately and today takes the biscuit. Two lots of chicken, replaced breast with chunks so I can't make my hunters chicken that I've bought everything else for and replaced my five pounds chicken with one costing nearly a tenner and I'm expected to pay for it.

What is the point of ordering online when you only end up having to go to the supermarket anyway. Anyone else having similar problems?

You reject the replacement at the time of delivery. Then you don’t have to pay. I’ve been with Ocado for over 10 years. The amount of subs is very small.

Overgrowngrasslady · 13/11/2022 09:06

No mine are fine, you can refuse subs

GiltEdges · 13/11/2022 09:07

Maybe it’s area dependent. We’ve had this with other supermarkets, Waitrose we’re actually the worst for us, but Ocado have been consistently reliable and few if any substitutions most weeks.

GiltEdges · 13/11/2022 09:07

were*

Hoppinggreen · 13/11/2022 09:07

We rarely have subs with Ocado, maybe once a month (get a weekly delivery)

Readaboutyourself · 13/11/2022 09:07

They’ve been great recently. No subs & always on time.

BeverleyMacca1 · 13/11/2022 09:08

Subs will always happen sometimes, I find ocado are great best for no subs, ideally it shouldn’t happen because they’re warehouse based but I guess they are let down with deliveries at times.

miffmufferedmoof · 13/11/2022 09:08

We very rarely have subs with Ocado, they let you know in advance so you can decide if you want to reject it. It’s better than any other supermarket delivery I’ve used

7Worfs · 13/11/2022 09:09

I very rarely have missing/substitutes with Ocado, and as PP said you can reject them at the door.

onepieceoflollipop · 13/11/2022 09:10

I’ve never had issues with Ocado subs tbh. It’s one reason I stick with them and suck up the slightly higher prices for some items.

as someone else said maybe it is area dependent.
we are in the Midlands.
Also I imagine it depends on how well supplied you are with other supermarkets. I can nip to several within a few minutes so getting a replacement item is a pain but not massively inconvenient.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 13/11/2022 09:10

You can refuse the subs. Though it’s very rare for me to have any unless I’ve done a late order (or within 24hours before delivery). I’d say they are great and very reliable.

my only issue is the freaking packing!

PriamFarrl · 13/11/2022 09:10

And really it’s no different to planning what you are going to make and then finding they don’t have a main ingredient in stock when you get to the supermarket.

hedgehoglurker · 13/11/2022 09:12

I thought this was going to be about the awful new app. Not sure if everyone has it or they are just testing out in certain regions. It has huge photos of products with minimal descriptions. It simply takes forever to scroll and find what you are looking for. Almost impossible to compare products.

Also, no Flash Sales. I hate the change and after 15 loyal years I've been pushed away to other supermarket deliveries.

Ravageur · 13/11/2022 09:14

I hardly get any subs and when I do they let me know via text and email a few hours before delivery so it's never a surprise.

FatToFitPart3 · 13/11/2022 09:16

We find Ocado rarely need to sub. When they have it’s usually ok. The only time it’s a pain in the arse is when they sub the big (900g) pack of chicken wings for a single pack of any of the other, smaller ones (all only 400-450g). When that happens I bung them in the freezer and then just order a smaller pack the next time so we have enough in total.

I do agree with @MrsElijahMikaelson1 though, some of the packing is bizarre. Really hate when they put strong or smelly chemicals or toiletries in with food items. Idiots.

familyissues12345 · 13/11/2022 09:26

Ocado is by far my favourite due to the rarity of subs/no stock - I'm guessing it must be luck though

Quirrelsotherface · 13/11/2022 09:26

Maybe it is area dependent but we've had a few problems recently.
The subs do make a difference to me as I have literally no other time to shop and no supermarkets near (20 minute drive). When it's two main items, one for Sunday lunch, it does make a difference, can't afford a £10 chicken so of course will send it back. Then no Sunday dinner or 20 minute drive and time I haven't got.

OP posts:
PriamFarrl · 13/11/2022 09:34

Presumably there are other adults involved in Sunday dinner. Can any of them go to the supermarket?

HelensToenail · 13/11/2022 09:39

And/or re-schedule the Hunters Chicken meal to this evening potentially giving you/others nearly 9 hours to sort out this mess up?

BreakfastOfWaffles · 13/11/2022 09:47

They were terrible in the first few weeks after the switch to M&S, and I do miss the Waitrose partnership. Things have improved recently, but it does annoy me that most of my subs are for more expensive M&S versions of what I ordered. Luckily it isn't often enough for me to switch but if I do, it will be to Waitrose.

Thisbastardcomputer · 13/11/2022 09:48

I get very few subs but find a lot of stuff out of stock but I hate food shopping in a supermarket, so I stick with Ocado.

They will take back subs and credit back any damaged items.

Quirrelsotherface · 13/11/2022 09:50

Presumably there are other adults involved in Sunday dinner

Really?! Single mum and no extended family. Why would you presume that unless you think everyone is in exactly the same situation as you! Bit bizarre

OP posts:
AdaColeman · 13/11/2022 09:50

Just use your ingredients for Hunters Chicken with the chicken chunks they sent you, to make a rich chicken casserole. It will look different, but the flavours will be the same, and you can serve it with the same accompanying dishes.

onepieceoflollipop · 13/11/2022 11:05

Ha - the packing I do agree with.

do you all get cucumber packed singly in a separate bag.

then a bag full of delicate biscuits or similar at the bottoms, ready meals type stuff and/ or tins plonked on top!

onepieceoflollipop · 13/11/2022 11:06

(Oh and unless it has changed in the last few days, we still get flash sales here)
