Bloody Ocado

I am done. There are always substitutions lately and today takes the biscuit. Two lots of chicken, replaced breast with chunks so I can't make my hunters chicken that I've bought everything else for and replaced my five pounds chicken with one costing nearly a tenner and I'm expected to pay for it.

What is the point of ordering online when you only end up having to go to the supermarket anyway. Anyone else having similar problems?

Fortunately where we are we rarely get Ocado subs.

I gave up in Waitrose as they had so many subs or missing items. Sainsburys was even worse.

DrivingHomeForChristmaaargh · 13/11/2022 11:10

We rarely get subs. I do understand your frustration, op, as it defeats the object of getting an Ocado delivery if you end up going to the supermarket anyway.

IME they respond well to complaints and often offer vouchers as an apology so it may be worth letting them know about the issue.

Puddywoodycat · 13/11/2022 11:15

I hardly ever get any subs at all and you can reject the subs?

It's never been a problem for us .

peplepue · 13/11/2022 11:16

We are in South East and hardly get subs. If we do and we don't like it we just refuse at the door.

AdaColeman · 13/11/2022 11:35

Re the packing of delicate items at the bottom of bags...there is a hilarious film of Ocado's robot pickers packing orders for delivery. They whizz frantically round, hurling items into bags with abandon.
I'm reminded of those robots every time I get a 2 litre carton of milk packed on top of a box of very squashed cream cakes!

Getting a sub is hardly grounds for compensation.

Presumably there are other adults involved in Sunday dinner. Can any of them go to the supermarket?

Presumably there's other adults? Some of us are widowed you know?!

Really?! Single mum and no extended family. Why would you presume that unless you think everyone is in exactly the same situation as you! Bit bizarre

So you are cooking hunters chicken for just you and some children. Cook something else then. I assumed this was some huge family dinner with the fuss you are creating.

ChristmasisRuined · 13/11/2022 12:29

Well that doesn’t stop the existence of other adults.
For a Sunday dinner that seems to be so damn important I had assumed that it was a family event rather than just a meal.

ChristmasisRuined · 13/11/2022 12:38

@PriamFarrl Is there any need to be so rude? I notice how the attitude towards OP massively changes as soon as she mentions she's a single mum Hmm We're not the enemy you know

I feel quite confident that it's not that she's a 'single mum'. It's the way she replied. Which was aggressive for the situation.

I've just gone back to ocado after a year with Sainsbury’s because the number of substitutions was ridiculous.

Don’t be so silly. How do you know I’m not a single mum? I don’f give one hoot about her family status. It’s that the way she was complaining it seemed to be some huge inconvenience like this was a big family meal rather than tonight’s tea.

I think you are seeing a prejudice that doesn’t exist.

unknown10 · 13/11/2022 12:58

They replace your £5 chicken with one coating £10?

I used to work for Ocado and substitutions were price matched. When did this change?

Since the switch to M&S this has happened loads. It's always a sub for a more expensive product

Quirrelsotherface · 13/11/2022 13:01

I clearly said today's Sunday dinner, it is 'damn important' as it's the meal I planned, yes, for 'me and some children'. Is it only important if I'm cooking for others as well as 'me and some children'?

Gosh your response to this is very odd and if you think that my response was aggressive then I suggest you read your own messages back to yourself. Talk about projecting.

I never used to get subs at all before M&S but since then loads of subs and they dont price match. They are the only online supermarket that dont pricematch at all.
Ive been sent £20 steaks for £6, aubergines that were 1.74 replace with £6. The say they price match savings but that doesnt work either. Had to complain and get a £2 refund because their sub pushed the price of a meal deal up.
I have queried their policy of not pricematching a few times but they do not answer.

Really have gone downhill in the last few years with lack of choice and too many substitutes

bruffin · 13/11/2022 13:06

I return every sub now that is more expensive , even if its pennies to make a point

So you cook what you were going to make on Monday, why bother starting a thread about one missing ingredient?
I understand if this was some big event, but for just everyday dinner then you change your plans. Reject the chicken you don’t want and get some replacement at some point in the week.
It’s not to say that your children aren’t important, but I wouldn’t be getting so upset as to start a thread over tonight’s tea.

Wheretheskyisblue · 13/11/2022 13:14

Is ocado the only supermarket that charge extra for subs? I like waitrose subs as they are often more expensive items for the same price.

I also hate how ocado pack raw meat with fresh fruit and veg.

They offer match now, iirc (I don’t buy much so it doesn’t happen often) - if the missing thing was eg 20% off, you get 20% off the sub.
Which is not so good when it’s twice the price…

Puddywoodycat · 13/11/2022 13:17

All my subs are closely price matched and I send back what I don't accept.

I'm sure if you explained how this sub was nothing convenient for you and the impact it had i'e rendered your ingredient useless, they will force you voucher's

GiantKitten · 13/11/2022 13:20

@unknown10
This goes back at least 4 years apparently

GrinGrinGrin one missing ingredient, it's the blooming chicken for the roast dinner. Not the salt or pepper!

bruffin · 13/11/2022 13:24

I think the difference was 4 years ago, i was unlucky if i got one sub a months, now im luck if i dont get a dub

Mirabai · 13/11/2022 13:31

YABU to live 20 mins from a supermarket, that’s the problem here, online supermarkets will always have subs at some point.
