Bloody Ocado

I am done. There are always substitutions lately and today takes the biscuit. Two lots of chicken, replaced breast with chunks so I can't make my hunters chicken that I've bought everything else for and replaced my five pounds chicken with one costing nearly a tenner and I'm expected to pay for it.

What is the point of ordering online when you only end up having to go to the supermarket anyway. Anyone else having similar problems?

YABU to live 20 mins from a supermarket, that’s the problem here, online supermarkets will always have subs at some point.

but other supermarkets dont sub with twice the price items then charge you for the difference. All other online supermarkets have some sort of pricematching policy

MuddlingThrough1724 · 13/11/2022 13:44

I am mainly irritated with substitutions because they either sub a pack of say 6, with a pack if three, and it doesn't occur to them I needed 6, and to send 2 packs, and that they don't price match the substitutes to what you actually ordered, unlike every other supermarket out there. I've also noticed their product availability has dropped off a cliff recently - some things that I'd say are fairly standard products just not available in any form or brand.

It’s very dependent on availability at any supermarket. I’ve had subs that were much more expensive than the original item, but you have the option to decline.

Quirrelsotherface · 13/11/2022 13:46

one missing ingredient, it's the blooming chicken for the roast dinner. Not the salt or pepper!

Thank you, I was starting to feel I'd gone a bit mad in it being an inconvenience that my chicken was missing!

Also the chicken for the hunters dish also made a difference as I'd also bought hunters sauce, bacon and fries for it.

I found Ocado went massively downhill with M&S. The quality of M&S food is good but the range is small, and they don’t appear to be producing it in sufficient volume to supply Ocado properly - hence the increase in substitutions.

And some of the French brands I bought regularly from Ocado - Reflets de France - have been out of stock for months.

Mirabai · 13/11/2022 13:50

You can still make that with chicken chunks though.

Glittertwins · 13/11/2022 13:52

Is there any way you can have delivery a day or two ahead so that if anything gets badly substituted, you can get an alternative in time? You should not have been charged for a more expensive sub either.
I've had things not available last minute for a meal that everything else has been purchased for, it's very annoying but I do have other shops nearby that one of us can get to.

Setyoufree · 13/11/2022 13:57

I haven't had any subs at all from ocado for months.

It is annoying if the one key thing is missing eg once all the eggs were broken and I'd bought ingredients to make a cake that I couldn't make without egg. But these things happen.

The hunters chicken will work just fine with chunks. The roast is a bit harder to be fair but I'm sure you can figure something out to have with the other ingredients?

OrangePomander · 13/11/2022 14:02

I’ve found that I get hardly any subs with Ocado if I order for delivery next day, or even the same evening if you get the order in early enough in the morning. When I order well in advance I almost always get subs, which is odd.

i know that and i do it regularly. The point you ae missing is Ocado have the worse subsitution policy of any supermarket and their once excellent reputation has gone down hill from virtually no subs to subs every week. They will not acknowledge that they are the only supermarket with this policy either

MarshaBradyo · 13/11/2022 14:05

Ocado have been fine for substitutions here

I did just get a horribly mouldy cauliflower though, will get a refund for it

hellswelshy · 13/11/2022 14:12

Yanbu op, it's very annoying. Can you do a deconstructed version of hunters chicken maybe?

yoshiblue · 13/11/2022 14:16

Ocado is great for us, North West but my mum has had a terrible time with them in the Midlands.

She's switched to Morrisons and that's much better for dates/less subs. Website and fulfilment is supposedly the same though.

Jules912 · 13/11/2022 14:32

I find we very rarely get subs and they're usually sensible when we do ( I even got 2 400g packs of chicken instead of a 900g one) but have noticed a lot more being out of stock lately.

I don’t find their subs policy any different to anywhere else.

Every other supermarket with charge you the original price of the item you bought for sub , some do it by giving you vouchers for the difference. So ie bread you ordered £1 sub bread fancy sour dough £4 . Every other supermarket will either charge you £1 or if not give you a voucher for the £3 difference . Ocado will charge £4!
That is not that much of an extreme case because on a few occasions i have had subs that have been 3 or 4 times the original item!

Quirrelsotherface · 13/11/2022 16:04

Thank you for all the kind messages and suggestions. I did make the journey for another chicken, we do like our FAMILY EVENT roast on a Sunday. Was just a bit more stressful with 3 kids in tow 😂

@unknown10
This goes back at least 4 years apparently

Oh right, I had no idea

I left in 2013 when it was still the partnership with Waitrose

PeloFondo · 13/11/2022 18:08

I usually like Ocado but today
Turned up 20 mins before my slot and didn't ring
Raspberries look like someone has sat on them
2 items missing totally

OP
I have just discovered you can go on the request a refund page and click the item,

then click incorrect substitution

then

Dissatisfied with price

Im going to keep item next time and try this

Quirrelsotherface · 13/11/2022 18:16

bruffin ooh good spot, will remember that!

OP posts:
bruffin · 13/11/2022 18:37

you can still do it for your chicken this week

Quirrelsotherface · 13/11/2022 19:36

Well I sent the big chicken back and the chicken for the hunters chicken, the substitute was cheaper so not sure it would work. Just annoying because they were fillet strip things. Kept them because I can bung them into a stir fry or something.

Sorry how many times can I say the word chicken in one sentence 🤣

Sorry this isn’t true, they charge you the price of the substitution, with some (Sainsbury’s) you can request a voucher for the difference but it’s a faff so many don’t.

I have checked the policies

Tesco

"If, for whatever reason, we can't pick what you've ordered, we can give you a substitution, at no extra cost"

Asda

"If something you have ordered is not available when we pick your order, we may choose a substitute. If it costs less, we charge you less. If it costs more, we won’t charge you the extra."

Iceland

"Does Iceland do substitutions?
If we have run out of any products that you have ordered, we will try to replace them with the same product of a better value, with no increase in the price you pay. We will issue a refund for any products which we do not supply"

and as i said Sainsbury do vouchers for the difference
