Does anyone else feel unreasonably angry just before their period?

So my period is due anytime, I’m feeling bloated and irritable. I go to the fridge craving the avocado I know is knocking about in there. And the bastard thing is frozen solid, so I try a yogurt instead. That’s frozen too. In a fit of rage I throw the frozen Avocado at the bin… Now it’s inconvenient, but any other time of the month this wouldn’t be enough to actually get me this angry. Like right before my period I just don’t have any tolerance for inconvenient, or irritable situations. My patience is just gone…

I have just made myself a gin and lemonade to calm myself down from my rage at the offending avocado lol … Bit yeah just wondering if this is just me that gets this?

I get it too, that and the munchies.
I get annoyed so quickly, I have to try hard not to snap at people.

Itisbetter · 10/11/2022 22:52

Sounds a reasonable thing to be pissed off about. Perhaps it’s the only time your true self shows.

BagpussBagpussOldFatFurryCatpuss · 10/11/2022 22:56

Yes. I’m not due in for another 5 days and have been livid with everything and everyone for the last 2 days.
It’s definitely hormonal. I am so irrationally angry for no real reason whatsoever.

Yep. I'm sure it's getting worse as I get older as well.

VikingLady · 10/11/2022 22:58

Yup. And I seriously crave sugar. I'll be chomping through the mini packs if chocolate spread in the back of the cupboard, eating the dodgy fruit in alcohols from previous Christmases, eating the stuff we've put away for Christmas. Awful. No control.

somethingslastforever · 10/11/2022 22:58

Yep every month, regular as clockwork and I know I'm being snappy but can't stop it, I just hate the world for a few days. Very annoying

RisingSunn · 10/11/2022 22:59

Literally one day before - and only as I’ve gotten a bit older.

NatalieIsFreezing · 10/11/2022 22:59

You mean some sort of tension in the pre-menstrual period?
Nah, never heard of it.... Grin

Chloefairydust · 10/11/2022 23:01

I did a night shift last night and was training up a new girl so she was following me the whole shift, she must have had a sinus problem because her breathing was really loud… OMG I have never been so irritated by the sound of someone breathing 🤣… This would be something that wouldn’t normally bother me, but I was so sensitive to the sound last night.

Obviously I was professional about it but seething inside 😂

Yes. I've been on a mild dose of venlafaxine for 9 years now and it helps immensely. The GP tried to wean me off it a few years ago and the PMT came straight back.

mnahmnah · 10/11/2022 23:03

I used to get a bit irritable. Then I hit my forties and the rage is terrible! Actual madness some months

Basecamp · 10/11/2022 23:05

My anger is pretty much out of control for a week to ten days before. I think I'm on the severe end of the spectrum though.

Oh no does it get worse as you get older? 🫣

I hate being so angry even when it’s only for 24 hours, it’s still horrible🙃

10 days before my period I'd swing between suicidal misery and rage. I always had irregular periods so it took me ages to figure out that link.

Is this something you take all the time? Or is it just for the PMT before your period? @PolkaDotMankini

🤣🤣 is this pmt a new thing?

PeloFondo · 10/11/2022 23:15

Yep. I get either rage or weepy and hungry and wonder why, then realise I'm due on
Every month Confused you think I would remember by now

takeitonthegin · 10/11/2022 23:15

I could self destruct my own life for a week leading up to my period. Totally irrational.

Phrenologistsfinger · 10/11/2022 23:16

Oh yes, rage flowing through my blood.

I’m even worse on IVF hormones cackle

StaceySolomonSwash · 10/11/2022 23:18

When I can fight a lamppost, I know I'm due next week. It's irrational, it's emotional and hormonal and it can't be helped.
Chocolate goes a long way to help.

I take it every day. I still have a PMT day before my period but it's like a bump in the road compared to the scary volcano it was before.

wingliner · 10/11/2022 23:28

I am waiting for my period, I know it’s coming so that’s not what is making me feel urgh - but I have had a hunger like you wouldn’t believe over the last day or so. I am feeling v bloated and yuck!
I don’t seem to get angry as such but I do have much less patience when I am due in …. Emotional too at some points. It’s like someone flicks a switch inside me.

What do people do you get out of feeling yuck!
Chocolate?
Carbs?
Bath?
Gym?

Howamihere · 10/11/2022 23:30

Yep - at least 5-7 days of mega fury and depression here - only started early 40s but wow, it’s vile😬🤯….and makes me a miserable human being😩. Off to google whatever drug it was someone recommended up thread!!😄

Luckycatt · 10/11/2022 23:31

Yes. Furious. Today I tried to get some pasta out of the cupboard but knocked it on the floor. It landed in the cat dry food bowl and scattered a few cat biscuits on the floor. So I kicked the bag of pasta across the room, splitting the bag. I just saw red.
