Does anyone else feel unreasonably angry just before their period?

So my period is due anytime, I’m feeling bloated and irritable. I go to the fridge craving the avocado I know is knocking about in there. And the bastard thing is frozen solid, so I try a yogurt instead. That’s frozen too. In a fit of rage I throw the frozen Avocado at the bin… Now it’s inconvenient, but any other time of the month this wouldn’t be enough to actually get me this angry. Like right before my period I just don’t have any tolerance for inconvenient, or irritable situations. My patience is just gone…

I have just made myself a gin and lemonade to calm myself down from my rage at the offending avocado lol … Bit yeah just wondering if this is just me that gets this?

I don't really feel the urge to murder anyone asking silly questions about well-known things ever, especially before my period, honestly Grin

Ashwagandha helped me a lot with my pms.
Really recommend it.

Doormatnomore · 10/11/2022 23:40

at least 1 night a month I lie in bed planning how to leave Dh. Not in a weepy way, cold and calculating. There’s just no way we can continue. I always plan for a couple of days time when we can be alone. I never go through with it but i bloody mean it at the time.

Yes. Furious. Today I tried to get some pasta out of the cupboard but knocked it on the floor. It landed in the cat dry food bowl and scattered a few cat biscuits on the floor. So I kicked the bag of pasta across the room, splitting the bag. I just saw red.

Im feeling empathy rage for you just reading about this situation 😁

Have you really never heard of pms/pmt OP?

Also, what kind of maniac keeps and avocado in the fridge?!

LeMoo · 10/11/2022 23:47

When I can fight a lamppost

😂so true!

I had a falling out with the kettle this week. It hadn't done anything wrong, I just hadn't switched it on.

EmpressoftheMundane · 10/11/2022 23:51

I get really annoyed and frustrated with everyone 2 days begore my period. I’m 50 now. I’ve been like this since my teens. It’s gotten worse. I worry when that when I go through menopause (soon) I will feel like this all the time. I’m told it happens from the estrogen drop.

You mean some sort of tension in the pre-menstrual period?
Nah, never heard of it.... Grin

Was just thinking the same!😂

Yes. The GP gave me antidepressants to take for that week

BitOutOfPractice · 11/11/2022 06:52

Erm, you’ve heard the term PMT before?

Cosycover · 11/11/2022 07:29

Yep. And now I cry too, which never happened before. I'm 38 so assuming it's age.

Alertthecorgis · 11/11/2022 07:33

Yup. I’m very much like this. I think as well due to age I’m honestly fed up of putting up with a lot of shit and so combined with PMT, I feel utter rage. I shouted at my rug last month because I’d tripped over it as I wasn’t looking where I was going.

Bollocks. The right birth control is a first line treatment for this. Unfortunately lots of GPs know little about this (same with menopause)

serenaisaknobhead · 11/11/2022 07:37

Yep. So thankful it isn't just me. The rage has been shocking at times but it's PMT and I've no idea how to fix it. Thankfully it doesn't last long.

caroleanboneparte · 11/11/2022 07:43

I never used to get this but I'm thinking it's now part of peri menopause?

My mood swings are pretty awful!

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 11/11/2022 07:45

I've always been like this, for a few days before and covering my period I feel soul crushing, wonder if I'll ever feel happy again levels of sadness and lose my temper over everything. After meeting my dp and having my kids I realised this was translating into me behaving horribly towards them every month which obviously wasn't OK. I tried a selection of different OTC solutions but eventually I saw a doctor who prescribed me sertaline and I can honestly say it's changed my life. I still feel a bit irritable around then but I'm no longer wondering if life is worth living or having an explosive loss of temper every month.

Antidepressants for the week. It's been a lifechanger

Yes that's what I'm on. Do you increase your dose/only take it for that week?

GerbilsForever24 · 11/11/2022 07:46

Pre menstrual rage is my most consistent and reliable indicator that my period will start at some point in the following 5 days. I have no idea if this was something I suffered from before because I have PCOS and had v v irregular periods. But 2 children later and heading rapidly into peri menopause, I'm far more regular and can spot it.

I have to actively remind myself that the rage I feel at DH or the DC is NOT rational and remove myself. Thank god it's usually only a few hours. But it's awful and I dread it getting worse.

MegGriffinshat · 11/11/2022 07:48

I used to. It was terrible.

But then I had to make some lifestyle changes and I basically became a nauseating prick and gave up sugar and all things fun.

Within 2 months hormones totally settled and I haven’t had a problem since.

redavocado · 11/11/2022 07:49

Yep, same here and I'm also on anti depressants for it. I'm an absolute nightmare for DH and DD without and only just tolerable with them!

FettleOfKish · 11/11/2022 07:51

Due in two days, I'm not usually this bad, but I had a small row with DH on Wednesday and I cannot let it go, we're barely speaking and I'm still furious with him and the world despite my rational brain knowing that it was nothing, really.

Hoping that the onset of AF might break the spell I seem to be stuck under.

yoshiblue · 11/11/2022 08:06

Yes I have one day a month where I could happily strangle someone! Usually the day before I start my period!

00100001 · 11/11/2022 08:08

god yes, the fucking rage!!!
