What do babies’ heads smell like?

Everyone raves about the scent of a baby’s head, but neither of my DC has a particularly distinct smell? Baby breath is very unique and sweet to me, but I don’t get the whole head-sniffing thing.

Biscuits

MegGriffinshat · 10/11/2022 08:09

Me neither! I’ve had 3 babies and have never understood what people mean.

incognitocheeto · 10/11/2022 08:09

One of mine had a lovely smell, the other one smelled of nothing shrug 🤷🏼‍♀️

Can't really explain the smell tbh - unique to babies heads!

Or the whole baby smell thing. All mine had terrible reflux and spent their first six months smelling of pulled up milk.

YoSofi · 10/11/2022 08:11

It’s the best biscuit smell in the world.

TheArtfulStodger · 10/11/2022 08:12

Slightly sweet, slightly milky, it's gorgeous

RosesAndHellebores · 10/11/2022 08:12

Heaven rolled into pure, unadulterated love. It was slightly sweet. Mine are mid to late 20s now and I still remember the profoundness of it.

picklemewalnuts · 10/11/2022 08:17

Warm. Soft. Sleepy. I don't think it's a scent so much as a feeling.

waitingwaitingwaiting2 · 10/11/2022 08:23

@picklemewalnuts yes, the full oxytocin encompassing warmth is like nothing else, snuggling a newborn to my chest and gently sniffing her head…but it is a feeling mire than a scent!

My newborn DD has a sort of gentle, soft, hair/skin/baby smell but not as striking to me as the smell of baby breath, which I find intoxicating!

Same here - slightly sour milk!

RambamThankyouMam · 10/11/2022 08:55

Just being reminded of it made me a bit emotional just now! It's such a unique and weirdly primal smell. I felt like an animal sniffing out my young when DD was tiny. I can almost conjure the smell up in my head if I try.

EthicalNonMahogany · 10/11/2022 08:55

caramel and biscuit

adriftabroad · 10/11/2022 09:00

Potato

Season0fTheWitch · 10/11/2022 09:05

DD smells of biscuits and warm rice and biscoff, my 2 other DDs just smelled of laundry detergent and baby powder

Hugasauras · 10/11/2022 09:06

I am sniffing DD2 right now for science and it's just a warm, milky smell that makes me happy inside.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 10/11/2022 09:06

Biscuits and puppies. My DS in particular, picking him up from his cot in the morning and giving him a good sniff was the highlight of my day for months. I once asked DH if he noticed it - he replied that to him he smelled like a passenger bus during evening rush hour. Bleurgh.

cantley · 10/11/2022 09:08

Vanilla shortbread

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 10/11/2022 09:18

I never got this either. I didn't think my DDs' heads smelled at all.

glowingtwig · 10/11/2022 09:19

@adriftabroad this was my DS, warm straw and a bit peppery.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 10/11/2022 09:20

I think my babies head smelled sweaty. I remember my friend saying babies heads Snell the best and took a sniff of my firstborn and she didn't look appeased afterwards lol
I love the breath though. Yummy

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 10/11/2022 09:20

Smell*

JuneOsborne · 10/11/2022 09:21

It smells of them!

Pipsqueakpopsqueak · 10/11/2022 09:24

I’m not sure either of mine smelled particularly strongly, but I’ve smelt the smell on other babies weirdly.

Now my dog’s paws... that’s where it’s at 😍
