Is an oodie better than a dressing gown? šŸ¤”

Been seeing oodies mentioned a lot on here lately. I’m always looking for ways to stay warm without turning on the heating and currently wear my dressing gown in the evening when it’s coldest in the house… So my question is, is the oodie better than the dressing gown?

the oodie is so much warmer than my dressing gown, i literally feel like I’m wearing a duvet lol I haven’t even needed to put the electric throw on since I have had it… definitely a good way to save on heating bills

Love my oodie so much I have bought another one, and one for DH who likes to steal mine!

In my opinion a snoodie (if they’re the same thing) is more comfy, but a warm dressing gown gives more warmth as you wrap it around and tie it and it traps heat (I write in the early mornings in a very cold room with a hat on)

I bought several from Amazon similar to the link below. We use them for social gatherings in the summer when outside and the night gets chilly and they're also excellent indoors for winter. Mine are slightly longer than the usual knee length ones. I can 'do' stuff while wearing it although if I'm doing anything remotely energetic like hoovering I take it off because I get too hot.

Pros:
doesn't keep coming undone
Warmer than dressing gown
Less restrictive and there is nothing 'tight' like dressing gown belt
Hood makes it even warmer if I am super cold

Cons:
Harder to take on and off quickly
Can almost be 'too warm'

Absolutely highly recommend them!

I have an Ony bought from New Look but John Lewis also stock. Much cheaper than an oodie and I think just as good according to reviews. I think it was about £35

I just got 2 in the sale real oodies Ā£44 and Ā£40 so pretty reasonable… Oodies are expensive but they always have sales and promotions so it’s not so bad

They are a lot warmer than dressing gowns… although I’m tempted to try the oodie dressing gown now 🤣

CurryandSnuggle · 02/01/2023 08:41

You can bring your knees up into an oodie when you’re sat down 😁

Girlintheframe · 02/01/2023 08:57

I know oodies get a lot of love but I don't rate them. They are no warmer than my thick dressing gown. I also find them cumbersome and the fact they are so big and not hugged close to your body makes them quite breezy.

JennyForeigner · 02/01/2023 09:01

Yes because constantly having to do up my dressing gown drives me mad.

Fuwari · 02/01/2023 09:07

I have a proper oodie and the money it’s saved me on heating, it has more than paid for itself. Plus the cats love to come and snuggle on it when I’m wearing it, which is an added bonus 😁

I have a couple of Amazon cheapies - plain and tasteful ones that the kids keep nicking, and then the most lurid one with cartoon avocados on that's an extra long one (so comes to mid-calf). Our boiler's being a bit of a bastard this year so the house can get very cold and they've saved my sanity a lot.

Most of my work team unashamedly wear theirs on teams calls (unless with people who don't know our team) so since I started wearing mine and another colleague joined in - about 4 others have added it to their Xmas lists.

glamourousindierockandroll · 02/01/2023 09:31

I've got a cheap Primark one and prefer it to a dressing gown because it doesn't come undone all the time.

Saisong · 02/01/2023 09:38

I got my kids the Comfy brand from Costco, they were on offer so only £20 each. They feel really good quality, so warm - the kids have lived in them ever since.

Try to get a genuine one - they are amazing. You could try Ebay or Facebook marketplace, there are bound to be duplicate gifts etc at this time of year.
