Is an oodie better than a dressing gown? šŸ¤”

Been seeing oodies mentioned a lot on here lately. I’m always looking for ways to stay warm without turning on the heating and currently wear my dressing gown in the evening when it’s coldest in the house… So my question is, is the oodie better than the dressing gown?

Where’s the best place to buy one? I don’t want to spend too much so the cheaper the better

I bought my uni DS this one from Amazon (but in navy blue) he loves it much warmer than his big dressing gown

Oversized Hoodie Sweatshirt Blanket XL, Super Warm Sherpa Giant Hoodie, Wearable Blanket Sweatshirt with Pocket, One Size for Adults Men Women Kid amzn.eu/d/cMIWtGr
Ā£23

Also lots of my colleagues turn their cameras off and sit wfh with oddies on when wfh

Oodies are warmer as they have several layers. I wear mine around the house when it gets really cold. It find them more comfy than a dressing gown.

We have an oodie and a kudd.ly and have tried generic ones too.
Theyre all really good, although the kuddly is the thickest and the oodie is the biggest. The generic ones and primark ones are not as thick, but theyre still really good, esp for the price

I bought four of the Kuddly brand ones in September - with one of their offers, they were just under £25 each. They are SO warm, I was amazed, honestly.
DH was very sceptical at first, but has practically lived in his black Sherpa one since, despite the initial scoffing.
The kids LOVE them, even if they are ridiculously large.
I think there's a place for both, but the Kuddly definitely beats my dressing gown for warmth...and it has glow in the dark stars on, too!

I've got an Oodie, yes it is warm but it is very bulky. I'm in the market for something less big tbh.

This looks like it would be useful but no longer available from M&S

I think I'd like an old fashioned housecoat really, like something my granny would have worn.

I have both - oodie is WAY better!

Although I lie, mine is a cheap Primark one. It's fluffy fleece lined unlike a dressing gown and has a hood which is nice when my neck is feeling cold.

I'm not sure I'd want a thicker one than this. I tend to run warm and I know it'll get colder, but I'm wearing this one with nothing underneath and am lovely and snug. When it's colder I'll put on a top underneath, I prefer to layer up a bit than just have one single very thick layer anyway.

Chloefairydust · 09/11/2022 17:28

You have all converted me to the oodie šŸ˜‚

I will see if I can find one in primark when I’m next in town… Do they do mens ones in primark too? I might get one for the other half too😁

OP posts:
IntrovertedPenguin · 09/11/2022 17:32

I have one from primark. I never wear my dressing gown anymore. Grin

Chloefairydust · 09/11/2022 18:45

Okay so I made the mistake of looking at the official oodie website, they have a Black Friday sale on so was tempted and bought this oodie

I don’t even want to look at my bank balance with the amount I have spent this month lol 🫣

I get too hot in my oodie as I am. Up and down alot. So really only wear it now when I'm totally slobbing or camping. Much prefer my dressing gown

If you aren't bothered about the brand. I'd recommend this one

I’m hoping the oodie will keep me warm in the house along with my heated electric throw and I can save on the heating bill…

I was tempted by the oodie cute love heart print šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø … Daft really, I mean how good can I really look in an oodie even with a pretty print🤣 … oh well

There may have been a link earlier on one of the Xmas threads to an outlet selling a real oodie for Ā£12. I think it was an otter/cat print but we’ve got the same one and it’s the same print, so it’s an overstock or second. Bargain to be had.

anyway… we have 2 oodies and two fakes - one Amazon and one dunelm. The oodies are better. They’re just floofier and lusher somehow. The dunelm is a pretty good second (less generous, not always a bad thing, DS11 still disappears in it ). Amazon one okay. Not as good.

the kids wear them gaming or in the evening. Then at bedtime they thrown them flat over the foot of their beds for an extra few layers. I wear mine WFH but whip it off and lay it over my legs for calls, or line my seat with it. They are very cosy!!

mincen · 09/11/2022 20:26

I prefer my oodie. It's a primark one so not too thick (I'd get too hot and sweaty.) I've spent winters in my dressing gown in the past and it annoys me having to keep doing up the belt bit.

I have found an issue with the oodie though, when I lean forward to load the dishwasher it hangs down and touches the dirty cutlery!

Oh no 🤣 … Thanks for the warning I will be careful when loading the dishwasher 😁

I wear leggings or PJ bottoms underneath.. too long and I think I'd trip on it

Oh yes I def always wear some kind of trousers under my long one too. I thought that’s the point of these massive hoody things, that they go over clothes not instead. My legs are cold when working from home if I’m just wearing leggings etc so for me the whole point of the long wearable blanket is that it’s another layer over the whole of me not just my top half. Then I’m nice and cosy

Chloefairydust · 21/11/2022 07:30

Update: so my Oodie arrived and I love it. I’m wearing it all the time in the house, much to the horror of DH who thinks it’s the least sexy thing ever lol 😁

My conclusion is, the oodie is definitely in a different league to the humble dressing gown. I’m so warm and cosy in it, and will probably save on heating bills it’s that cosy… Also I’m glad I bought the official oodie brand, it seems to be really good quality and I think it should last a while.

That's great op! I've got a cheap copy one which I love and live in.. I'm contemplating upgrading to a real one as I believe they are a bit longer... does yours come below your knees and how tall are you please?!

Yes it comes down to just past my knees, I’m 5 ft4 , it feels a lot thicker than the ones in other shops I have seen… It kind of feels like I’m wearing a blanket. I would definitely recommend the oodie if your thinking of buying one

DecsAreUp · 21/11/2022 16:11

A dressing gown would probably be a lot cheaper.

Nsws2015 · 21/11/2022 16:48

I just got this the other day from amazon as I follow a fb page that posted a code to get it cheap. I promised it to my son then when I saw how soft and fluffy it was wished I hadn't 🤣 he has the coldest room in the house and hasn't complained about the cold once since I gave it to him!

I bought my DC a Primark one each that comes down to their knees.
They wear them a lot more than their dressing gowns, including in the car and to/from swimming and sports classes. So I feel like they were a good purchase!
