... who I'm a big fan of. Just watching an episode and I'm nearly sure he said that his wife and kids were away. But but but - I thought he didn't have kids?!

This is clearly a very important question (and I clearly know how to have exciting Sundays) so please - any opinions?!

Watching with interest. I haven't seen it in years but always assumed he was "married to the job"

NewBootsAndRanty · 06/11/2022 18:42

He mentioned his wife a lot, didn't he?

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/11/2022 18:42

I didn't think he had kids.Confused

Can't get into Colombo.. Hate that you know who the killer is from the beginning!!

BobbyBobbyBobby · 06/11/2022 18:43

No children. He often fabricated stuff about his personal life when talking to villains.

According to Wiki married with at least one kid. God I fancied him so much. He was my weird teenage crush along with that bartender in Cheers and Hawk Eye in MASH and Leroy in Fame.

oh he did have children!

Children

Columbo had children, but no details were ever disclosed about them. As with his wife, their actual existence within the show have been questioned, but as with his wife there is evidence that they were real. In the episode "Troubled Waters" (1975) he is seen discussing the children on the phone with no other characters present. In one episode ("Rest in Peace, Mrs. Columbo”) he does claim in conversation with the killer that he and his wife never had any children, but it was part of a deception in which he staged a “home” at a house other than his own which included false pictures of his wife, because the killer had targeted his wife.

In "Any Old Port in a Storm", he refers to the difficulty of getting a babysitter. He also mentions in that episode taking his wife and "child" on a picnic, and alludes to this child in "The Most Crucial Game". In "Mind over Mayhem", he mentions that his "wife and kids" were in Fresno visiting his mother-in-law. He is also seen asking about the children in a phone conversation with his wife when no one else was present.

Well that Wiki entry is interesting - I could've sworn he didn't have kids.

Huge fan here
No he never had kids (it didn’t happen)
there are a few episodes where he mentions the wife and kids are away but thats usually to the murderer - he does have nieces and nephews though

His dogs name is Dog and his first name is Frank - his fave food is chilli and crackers but he loves a peanut butter and raisin sandwich. Oh he like to carry boiled eggs in shells in his trench coat
what episode did you watch OP? Ive seen them all loads 🤣

As an aside I learned yesterday to make circles and shapes instead of terrible outlines.

@BobbyBobbyBobby Mind over Mayhem is the episode I'm just watching!

Interesting question! This:

Q. Do Columbo and his wife have any children?
More than one?
A. Good question -- depends on the episode.
In "RIP, Mrs Columbo" he claims he and his wife never had any children.
But then he was talking to a homicidal maniac who was trying to kill his wife, so Columbo may have lied to protect his family.
In "The Most Crucial Game" (1972) he says the wife complains that the ice cream man comes before dinnertime and spoils "the child's" appetite.
In "Any Old Port In A Storm" (1973) he says he went on a picnic with the wife
and "my kid". Might have had another child too young for the picnic, because in the same episode he needs a babysitter and buys 2 quarts of milk, and says "You know how it is when you have kids."
And he says it's too hard for him to write a book at home with "the family and all,"
which sounds like multiple kids running around ("Publish Or Perish," 1974)
In "Mind Over Mayhem" (1974) he says the wife and "kids" are visiting his
mother-in-law.

Columbo had children.

Crakes · 06/11/2022 18:48

@Bigslippers - Mind over Mayhem. His name is Frank?! I thought I knew most things about him but never knew that. I don't want him to be a Frank!

Deffo Hawkeye. Also Hutch in Starskey and Hutch and his bootiful toons. Why, I don't know.

Kabbalah · 06/11/2022 18:49

All I know is he drove a Peugeot 403 convertible. 😀

creideamhdóchasgrá · 06/11/2022 18:51

"Oh, I didn't come to ask any more questions. I came to arrest you."

OneFrenchEgg · 06/11/2022 18:53

Oh how could I forgot Hutch. And the Dukes and CHiPs and the dead angel who saved people.
I have been let down in adulthood. I really needed as sexy, dead bar man who had a first aid certificate and hobbies in street dance and true crime.
