I have a question about Lieutenant Columbo ...

... who I'm a big fan of. Just watching an episode and I'm nearly sure he said that his wife and kids were away. But but but - I thought he didn't have kids?!

This is clearly a very important question (and I clearly know how to have exciting Sundays) so please - any opinions?!

Not only does he have a wife, but Mrs Columbo had her own short lived show from 1979 to 1980 where she was played by Kate Mulgrew aka Captain Janeway from Star Trek Voyager!

Crakes · 06/11/2022 18:55

Starskey for the young me, Columbo for the old current me :)

What?! No way. This is life changing information - are you sure?

Absolutely loved Columbo! He had a dog, a basset hound (I think).

Bizarre but true! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mrs._Columbo

@OneFrenchEgg
God yes!

@Bigslippers - Mind over Mayhem. His name is Frank?! I thought I knew most things about him but never knew that. I don't want him to be a Frank!

Yep - sad as I am I used to belong to an online fan forum. A user had managed to take a screenshot of Columbos id and enlarged it
We all agreed it said Frank - I never call him by his first name 🤣
He was actually married to Shera Danese , if you google her you will recognise her as she had many parts in Columbo x

Habreathmint · 06/11/2022 19:00

@Elderflower14 that's the point' it's a howcatchem not a whodunit 😂

I've never heard him mention kids but there was certainly a Mrs Columbo. There have been inconsistencies, which is normal for a long series. In some episodes he speaks Italian, but in another episode he's berated by a mobster for not being able to speak it.

What was his first name though?

donquixotedelamancha · 06/11/2022 19:01

Frank.

MissAmbrosia · 06/11/2022 19:03

DH could do Mastermind on Columbo and swears he has no children. He could have been spinning a line to a villain as per pp.

Habreathmint · 06/11/2022 19:05

There was a rumour started deliberately that his name was Phil. Something to do with Trivial Pursuit and copyright infringement.

BigFatLiar · 06/11/2022 19:06

It's usually on 5usa at the weekend (seems like all day sunday)

SpentDandelion · 06/11/2022 19:06

Brilliant series, I also had a crush on him as well as Eddy Shoestring, private investigator. Also loved Starsky and Hutch. Ruth Rendell Inspector Wexford series was very good as well as Morse.

OneFrenchEgg · 06/11/2022 19:06

@Oblomov22 😂

Was my mother lying to me in a bid ti put me off him or did he have a glass eye? I did have form for attempting to run off with older men (alas none as responsible as Columbo) so she may have been resorting ti desperate tactics.

BigFatLiar · 06/11/2022 19:10

Yep Peter Falk had a glass eye

Crakes · 06/11/2022 19:19

He (Peter Falk) reputedly had a very high iq and was a fab chess player.

@Bigslippers thats fascinating, thank you! Are you no longer a forum member?

No this was years ago and haven't been on there for ages but will still happily rewatch all the Columbos constantly on loop to relax
He was just so funny and dry, yet had perfect manners.
He acted so daft and the murderers would often be laughing thinking he was a blithering fool
He always had the last laugh but was always the gentleman

Bridge2far · 06/11/2022 19:31

Can't beat a bit of Colombo on a sunday

Georgeskitchen · 06/11/2022 19:32

Wow not seen Columbo since it was originally on (I was still at school)
A must watch at our house, my dad, brother and me when my mum worked evenings.
Along with Kojak, Starsky and Hutch and Cagney and Lacey
Bliss, just pure bliss 😊

RunnyPaint · 06/11/2022 19:32

I had no idea that Peter Falk was married to Shera Danese, but it really makes sense of the chemistry when they are on screen together ❤

Oh how could I forgot Hutch. And the Dukes and CHiPs and the dead angel who saved people.
I have been let down in adulthood. I really needed as sexy, dead bar man who had a first aid certificate and hobbies in street dance and true crime.

There's Lucifer. He's quite bonkers, reasonably attractive and desperately unfeasible.

Habreathmint · 06/11/2022 19:34

They always repeat the same ones on a loop. I'd love to see some different ones.

OneFrenchEgg · 06/11/2022 19:38

Oooh a new fictional character to put on a pedestal - shall try and find Lucifer

The dead angel is Highway to Heaven and is on Great!tv in the mornings

Chips and Starksy & Hutch are on as well

OneFrenchEgg · 06/11/2022 19:42
