Help me like coffee

sellmeyours · 05/11/2022 17:11

I really like the smell of coffee.

I am 24. I tried drinking it when I was a bit younger and hated it, too strong

I've got a more 'adult' taste Grin so was wondering how to like it as I bought a flat white with no sugar from Star Bucks - loved how frothy it tasted but the coffee was a bit too strong

What type of coffee might I like?! There are so many - Mocha, flat white, Americans, etc etc I'm confused by

Sincerely, a very tired carer who does need caffeine

I'm not a huge coffee fan. I can only have it with lots of sugar and milk.

CuriousCatfish · 05/11/2022 17:13

Latte is weak and milky. Try one of those. Flat whites are quite strong.

Kez200 · 05/11/2022 17:14

Try it black?

Thank you so much, can I ask how comes it's so strong when the consistency is really fluffy and nice?

You need milk and sugar. I love coffee but still find it strong and could never drink it black. Latte or a caramel macchiato maybe.

UWhatNow · 05/11/2022 17:17

Try a caramel latte from McDonald’s - that’s probably a good gateway one.

Thank you - How about a Skinny Latte? Does that just mean latte with skimmed milk??

Agree with pp a latte will maybe be better for you.
I love coffee but hate Starbucks, so would also try other places.

Forzatesoro · 05/11/2022 17:23

oP I think a Latte is double the amount of milk and same amount of coffee as a Glat white

I love a flat white, having always been a black coffee drinker. Can't tolerate the bitterness any more
Definitely recommend brown sugar if you're going to use it

Forzatesoro · 05/11/2022 17:23

My spelling is atrocious!
Skinny means skimmed milk yes.

sellmeyours · 05/11/2022 17:25

If I make a coffee with lots of oat milk, does that make it a skinny latte too?

I don't have any milk in the fridge but have some Americans coffee in, and oat milk. Was going to try that Grin

I paid £3.50 at the drive through for a flat white... the size of it was as if it was a child's cup!

A friend of mine start dating a coffee addict recently.

She started with mochas, graduated to lattes and now drinks flat whites.

True romance Grin

LisaJool · 05/11/2022 17:28

Starbucks coffee is a very acquired taste. Try Costa, it's less bitter. A latte with syrup would be a good entry point.

A flat white will usually have two shots of coffee. A latte will only have one shot.

Solosunrise · 05/11/2022 17:35

You need a nice instant coffee like nescafe. Then you can muck about with how strong/how much milk/if you want sugar.

I'm a carer too and recognise the need for caffeine 😂
I find 'proper' coffee too strong and if I drink it out I usually go for soya latte.

TotteringByGenteeley · 05/11/2022 17:35

Ask for a latte with half a shot. That will be very weak to get you used to coffee, then you can go up to one shot if you want to later.

Sagittarius25 · 05/11/2022 17:38

I never used to like coffee but started drinking it when I was at uni. I do believe it's something you almost have to train your tastebuds to like.

I started on lattes (very milky) with sugar and could still taste the coffee a lot. Over the years I've lessened the sugar and got stronger coffees. I now enjoy a flat white with no sugar and actually like the taste.

I also have a coffee machine at home that I grind the beans for because I like the strong taste now.

Just start weak (milky) and sweet and then you can progress to stronger 😊

sarahc336 · 05/11/2022 17:42

Maybe try a sweetener in it to start x

crispinglovershighkick · 05/11/2022 17:43

I think there's a big difference between espresso drinks, no matter how milky, and ordinary filter coffee. I'm not a fan of the petrolly-tasting Italian-style dark roast coffees and prefer medium roast filter.

AtomicBlondeRose · 05/11/2022 17:45

A flat white should have quite silky steamed milk which is why it has such a creamy texture, but it’s a lot of coffee to a small amount of milk which is why it tasted strong to you (and why it was in a small cup - flat whites should be small!)

A latte also has steamed milk but much more milk to coffee. You might also like a shot of syrup (vanilla/caramel/whatever Christmas mix they have on offer).

BobbyBobbyBobby · 05/11/2022 17:47

I much prefer iced coffee! Cappucino and Mocha are lovely.

Skiphopbump · 05/11/2022 17:48

If you like hot chocolate then try mocha, then a latte. I love coffee but would rather drink nothing than a Starbucks coffee!
