Help me like coffee

I really like the smell of coffee.

I am 24. I tried drinking it when I was a bit younger and hated it, too strong

I've got a more 'adult' taste Grin so was wondering how to like it as I bought a flat white with no sugar from Star Bucks - loved how frothy it tasted but the coffee was a bit too strong

What type of coffee might I like?! There are so many - Mocha, flat white, Americans, etc etc I'm confused by

Sincerely, a very tired carer who does need caffeine

I used to work in coffee.

a flat white should be a double shot of espresso and an equal amount of milk.
a macchiato should be a double shot of espresso and half the amount of milk of foam.
a latte should be a double shot of espresso and double the amount of milk.

Anywhwre like Costa, Starbucks etc is made up drinks (ie their caramel macchiato is a latte with syrup. They are expensive places for what you get.

Id begin in a mocha if you like hot chocolate, or a cappuccino if you liked the froth of the flat white. You could begin with asking for a single shot too so it’s weaker and build it up.

It's an acquired taste. It's much nicer when it's sweet, try with two sugars.

Latte. Blonde roast
Flavoured syrup

I weaned myself on to coffee with flavoured mochas, then flavoured lattes, then lattes with decreasing amounts of sugar and now my go to is a flat white.
Although it's no double espresso, a flat white is relatively intense to start with, if you find coffee quite a strong flavour.

I don’t like coffee, I try but I just can’t do without a cup of tea.

SouperNoodle · 05/11/2022 22:33

Try a Costa latte with a brown sugar in. It's much milder than Starbucks

lljkk · 05/11/2022 22:34

Why isn't the caffeine in tea or red bull good enough?

Tea. Cheaper and better.

I thought it was just me liking the smell of coffee but not the taste

goodmorningsunny · 06/11/2022 05:38

Flat white is a strong coffee. Try one of the seasonal drinks, they're usually very dessert like so you'll probably like them :)

Outtasteamandluck · 06/11/2022 05:43

Try iced coffee

Bramblejoos · 06/11/2022 05:44

Do you have a sweet tooth. Expresso (small continental style) with lots of sugar.?

addler · 06/11/2022 05:49

This helps show the difference

I wouldn’t bother OP. It’s not very good for you and is extremely expensive.

OldWivesTale · 06/11/2022 06:31

I'd get a cappuccino (very frothy) or a latte ( very milky) with half a shot of coffee or just one shot if it's a large cup. The key is the shots. Most will put 2 shots in as standard and for me that's too strong. Then add a brown sugar if necessary.

bananaorange00 · 06/11/2022 06:39

Aldi do really nice cold coffees in their sandwich section. I think the green topped one seems to be the weakest. I can't drink strong coffee but I love those!

Thank you so much, can I ask how comes it's so strong when the consistency is really fluffy and nice?

A flat white has 2 shots of espresso in & frothed milk. A latte has only one shot of espresso in & frothed milk. You could get a syrup added ie vanilla, caramel etc if you want it sweet.

sageandrosemary · 06/11/2022 07:35

Ah I'm just the same! I really want to like coffee but I struggle with it. It's also made me feel really sleepy in the past when I've tried, which is not what I was expecting.

I've tried a few different ones to try and espressos have been my favourite so far. The milky types made me feel quite groggy. Just keep trying and find the one you can tolerate the most and build it up from there maybe? Good luck Smile

DarkMatternix · 06/11/2022 07:41

Funny all these people recommending sugar and syrups. I used to love the smell but thought I didn't like the taste but I'd only ever tried other people's coffee which contained sugar. Tried coffee without and I was converted

BretonBlue · 06/11/2022 07:52

If you drink Red Bull then you probably already have pretty high tolerance for caffeine, so a weak latte with a single shot of espresso won’t do much for you. You may as well take a couple of Pro Plus.

Leggingslife · 06/11/2022 07:52

Weak latte with sugar.

lljkk · 06/11/2022 11:01

yeah, if OP is chugging red bull then coffee won't do more for her. She can buy caffeine in tablets but fundamentally, caffeine is a health risk at high doses. Need to consider better ways to feel energised.

PeekAtYou · 06/11/2022 11:05

Ask for a latte with one shot of espresso rather than two. My dd was a barista and she's had customers even ask for a quarter of a shot.
A flat white is two shots of espresso with less milk than a latte so will be more concentrated. I wouldn't recommend it for "a beginner " like you.

PeekAtYou · 06/11/2022 11:07

Thank you so much, can I ask how comes it's so strong when the consistency is really fluffy and nice? The fluffy consistency is the steamed milk. You can get milk steamers for use at home and make hot chocolates or chai lattes too.
