Curious about Audi drivers

Every day I come across Audi drivers on the road and they spark a curiosity in me like nothing else. Who are they? What do they do for work and fun? Where do they go on their holidays? Why do they drive like that? How did they pass their test? So many questions and so few answers...
Can anyone shed any light? Do you drive any Audi? and is it white?

My exH used to drive an Audi. He's a salesman and drives like that because he's an arrogant muppet who thinks he's such a good driver that he could never crash.

He now drives a BMW.

Snap!!

I like to summer in the Algarve. I stay home and take in the Ocado delivery whilst DH goes to Aldi in his shitty Passat.

I have to drive carefully as I have a long legged lurcher who insists on standing up in the car. Any sudden acceleration or hard turns leads to a lot of stumbling and falling over, followed by sad and broken heart face.

We have a silver 08 registration A4 estate. Bought second hand 3.5 years ago from a questionable garage as it was all we could afford with the insurance payout after someone wrote our previous car off. There's always something wrong with it (currently sounds like a train doing an emergency stop when driving at low speeds) and has done a lot of miles but at the same time it's never broken down on us. It's got dark windows at the back, so you can't see the extended rear-facing car seats for our 4yo and almost 2yo. I don't drive, but I'm a teacher and DH is a university administrator. He genuinely is one of the calmest and best drivers I know. We shop at Aldi and Morrison's and holidays are almost exclusively to visit family in my country of origin (on the continent).

Fun fact: the glove compartment is locked and we have never had the key. I've been meaning to start a thread about this for a while😂

DM has a Q3. She is 75, and a retired finance officer. Has literally never been in an accident, had a speeding ticket once about 20 years ago and was mortified (road speed limit changed from 40 to 30 and she hadn’t noticed). Definitely doesn’t cut people up. Holidays - backpacker type trips, she went trekking in Peru, visited Everest basecamp, that kind of thing.

She likes Audis because they feel well-made, aren’t BMWs (which have the “twat” image around here), and are cheaper than a Lexus. And the dealership seem to wait on her hand and foot, which she loves, having been on the receiving end of a lot of misogyny from garages over the years.

OOvavuuu · 31/10/2022 23:31

@Cantseethewindows Now we need to know what's in that glove box! My guess is it's tic tacs and a copy of 'how to think like a CEO'. Possibly even some Joop.

I bought a TT 4 years ago, intending to keep it for a year…but I still have it as I bloody love it.
It’s super reliable and brilliant to drive.

I’m a therapist in the NHS.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 31/10/2022 23:47

I drive a TT. Bloody love it.
I'm disabled, holiday in the UK, online shop at Sainsbury's and am a resolute indicator user.

I'm not 100% confident this car wasn't a shady fucker in a previous life so I think I'd rather remain blissfully ignorant 😅

Black S5 here with a wanky private plate( it's getting old now, it's a V8 so that helps date it as I know they don't make them with a V8 engine anymore) ... it sounds very nice and I love driving it.

It's really DHs car but it's not economical for him to use for work so I get the job of giving it a run out and making sure it's ok because it's his first baby 😂 ( accountant - for the purpose of your research )

We don't use it as our main car as can't fit all the kids in!

I don't work... my hobbies include visiting Starbucks, we haven't had an abroad holiday in 3 years because I didn't want the hassle with covid. Uk holidays include places like Blackpool usually with my sister who has a white Q5 ( hairdresser and usually found in turkey 2-3 times a year)

Both me and DH passed our tests first time at 17... my sister took 7 attempts and Im pretty sure she paid the examiner to pass her.

We shop Waitrose or Ocado my sister shops in Aldi or Lidl. Very different incomes and very different lifestyles but also two very different cars so not sure how that will help your Audi research 😂

Trustylion · 01/11/2022 00:37

I drive a black BMW. My car before was a blue Ford Fiesta. The difference is incredible. Nobody cuts me up in the BMW and I get let out all the time. Its made me realise how much people used to take the piss when I was in the little car. I think this behaviour thing might be big, expeklnsive car Vs little car rather than specifically Audi (or MW, or Range Rover) drivers. I passed second time, work in IT, shop in Tesco, Aldi and Waitrose as they are all pretty much equidistant to my house.

Icepinkeskimo · 01/11/2022 00:43

Yes it’s white, it’s also very rare and if needs be, it’s a bloody beast under the bonnet. It was and still is my dream car. I worked and saved hard for it. There are downsides men seem to hate to see a woman in a high performance car, demonstrated by the macho bullshit of wanting to initiate a race from the lights, on the motorway in fact anywhere. The police seem to like it to, I frequently get pulled over they must like looking under the bonnet, in the boot and under the seats can’t think 🤔 why!
I haven’t had a holiday in 3 years, due to looking after my lovely mum who’s been seriously ill, I dream sometimes of just packing a bag and just running away me and my car. I keep that dream, but in the meantime I wrap my mum up warm and we go for a coffee, when she’s well enough. Gone are the days when I could go for a 2 hour shop at any supermarket and not have to worry about how long I would be out. The shopping gets delivered by a nice man in a Ocado van, who always asks how my mum is and I want to cry…
Life is never a smooth ride.

somethinsomethin · 01/11/2022 00:48

😂😂

I write rom-coms for a living and a bog-standard Audi driver being right up my FMC's hoop is the foundation of their meet-cute.

MMC is everything you'd expect a bog-standard Audi driver to be (until he changes for love... and trades in for a Nissan). 😂

This thread has cracked me up 😂 I’ve an Audi, an A3 S-Line Quattro. It’s so much fun to drive, albeit not practical. It’s too low for the potholes in the roads around here really. I don’t drive it much anymore but I’m a bit too sentimental to get rid. I’ve also got two pick up trucks to choose from and they’re the ones I go for. We’re farmers and contractors, we don’t go on holiday as we work all the fucking time, we shop at Lidl and it’s not white, it’s dark blue 🤣

RemindMeAgain · 01/11/2022 08:22

Former owner of 2x white Audis here, definitely drove without indicators, with an attitude and parked wherever I wanted. I’m a local government officer, tend to shop in Aldi, needed to to pay for my fabulous car!

hay5689 · 01/11/2022 08:29

I've had 3 Audi's, first one an sq5 then an rsq3 and now a TTrs. As you can tell I like to have a car with a bit of power 😂

Never had a white one though! 🙈

AntlerRose · 01/11/2022 08:29

We have an audi. Cost us under 5k. We just looked through the car adds and found the tidiest looking car available in our price range in our area.

It does have idicators, which surprised us as we assumed it wouldnt.

thelastgreatdynasty · 01/11/2022 09:43

Ex Audi driver here, switched to BMW. I actually notice more hostility from other drivers in the BMW.
I choose it because it had a great safety rating and I commute a long distance to work so wanted something safe and comfy. Holiday all over the place. Spent half term on safari, took the Audi up to the Lake District and various camping trips.

BankseyVest · 01/11/2022 09:45

I used to drive an Audi, silver, passed first time, work in IT, I usually go on a walking holiday with my dh and dogs but this year was our anniversary so we went to Dubai and the Maldives

thereisonlyoneofme · 01/11/2022 09:49

I amazed audi,BMW and Mercedes drivers pay all that money fora car and they dont even seem to come with indicators!😉

OOvavuuu · 01/11/2022 16:43

Thanks for the laughs everyone!

You all sound like a lovely bunch and I might even consider an Audi when my BMW packs in!

My dad’s a 76 year old PHEV Audi driver. He mostly uses it to drive along the Norfolk and Suffolk coast, visiting garden centres, farm shops and National Trust properties. He got an Audi because there is an Audi dealership near his house and he was bored one afternoon. It’s not a two seater, but he recreates the effect by filling the back seats with three large boxes of Model Railway magazine he picked up at Bury St Edmunds market in May.

I think he’s untypical of the breed. My mother huffs that he’s a big show-off but secretly loves it.

petalpower · 01/11/2022 20:27

My last car was a beautiful 3 litre black A5 coupe. Sadly had to change it due to the arrival of the dog - apparently they’re not keen on closed boots! Now drive a grey Q3 which is a bit boring but more dog friendly. I am a very considerate driver and always use my indicators.

To be fair I could have had indicators in my BMW but I went for a heated steering wheel instead 😁

ifIwerenotanandroid · 02/11/2022 14:52

Bought a sporty little Audi 2-3 years ago & what I notice is that where oncoming drivers used to breeze past obstacles on their side of the road & make me brake, now that I'm in the Audi they meekly stop behind the obstacle & let me go past them. 😂
