What housework have you managed to get done today during half term?

I'm off work this week for half term, and already the house is a state. Sort of state where it's not really recovered from the weekend...I've been out this evening and now at 10pm I feel I need to catch up on the chores. Ha. I have managed to tidy up the living room and dining room and anti-bac'd the kitchen tops and washed the dishes.

So motivate me, what housework have fellow half term mum's done today?

Actually give me a quick chore to do and tell me to go and do it, please. Ha.

Check use by dates/ when things were open in the fridge and throw away old stuff.

tealandteal · 25/10/2022 22:15

Have managed the washing up, clean washing put away for me and given DH his. Kids washing is still in piles as they are asleep but the other washing is hung out to dry. Robot hoover has been round downstairs and the kitchen sides are clear. Really hoping to get a decent amount of washing dry this week as it’s starting to build up!

Sids81 · 25/10/2022 22:15

I follow tomm so I've done living room and bedrooms this week as per. But for tonight I'd wipe over the bathroom very quickly and put a load of washing on to hang up in the morning.

Emily1583 · 25/10/2022 22:15

That's a good one. Pretty sure the are some tired looking carrots in there and perhaps the milk needs binning. On it 👍

Inside of the windows one day and skirting boards and paw prints on walls on Sunday. Figuring one big job a day will make it look better and not take up the whole day.

Emily1583 · 25/10/2022 22:27

Sorted the fridge out. Yep the carrots were well past their prime, milk smells OK, but someone put back the tub of olive spread with barely any spread left inside so chucked that out.

I've done a load of washing and 2 loads of washing up. Yesterday I ran the hoover round the living room. I did manage to do an hour of work work yesterday and 90 minutes today. The cleaner texted earlier to say she isn't coming this week which is very sad.

Emily1583 · 25/10/2022 22:30

Skirting boards certainly need doing but not starting that tonight, ha. Maybe tomorrow.

Echo the laundry pile and drying problem....weather has been dry one minute rain the next minute today and yesterday. Got bits drying on the radiators.

Errmm... nothing, and proud of it Grin

Arayes · 25/10/2022 22:34

Its not half term everywhere, but if it was it wouldn't make the slightest difference. I'd still work all day and do the usual housework as any other day.

BackOnTheBandWagon · 25/10/2022 22:35

Fuck all Grin

BusyBeaMe · 25/10/2022 22:37

We were away on holiday last week so managed to empty the remainder of the suitcases, hand luggage bags and put away all of the holiday laundry.
wiped over the kitchen too and also put back the cushions on the sofa back together multiple times, whilst risking the floor of ‘hot lava’! Finished with wiping up the endless pumpkin seeds that were all over the kitchen table and floor!

Emily1583 · 25/10/2022 22:39

Ha, love the done naff and proud posts. Glad I'm not the only one.

Currently sorting out some of the drying laundry on the radiators that are annoying me.

I got rid of some very annoying marks on the walls with a magic eraser.

Bit of decluttering in the living room but don’t have the energy to tackle to toy Pile of Doom.

Spent 45 minutes pruning the wisteria (am not a natural gardener) and it proved to be a much bigger task than I’d anticipated so I only got half way through.

Hunted for and found the missing cord from the blind in DC’s room. It’s broken but at least I know that now and can order a new one!

Itstarts · 25/10/2022 22:41

As long as I keep on top of the laundry and dishes, I'm happy.

ImGood · 25/10/2022 22:42

Put the bins and recycling out
Hoovered downstairs
1 load washing
1 load dishwasher
Bit of tidying

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 25/10/2022 22:51

I've hoovered everywhere and cleaned the bathroom. I also sorted out the shed today <proud>

Tarkan · 25/10/2022 22:55

Not half term here but our second term started last week after a two week holiday and I swear I'm still catching up with stuff from then. Today dishes got done and one load of washing but this has just reminded me it's still in the washing machine. Oops.

Vitriolinsanity · 25/10/2022 22:57

I had a new microwave installed by lovely AO people. As a result I cleaned the whole kitchen. Then I cleaned the whole house. If it makes me clean the car I am going to ring AO and ask them to have the fucker back.

Sod all…! It’s bloody impossible (tbf it’s usually not too bad, have a baby on my hands this half term!)

but I would love to spend an hour or so just magic erasering the walls, it’s been on my to do list since before baby was born 🤗 very satisfying task

Don't bin food, make soup from tired veg!

yellowbottles · 26/10/2022 00:29

I put a load of washing away then watched someone else clean an oven on TikTok while having a bath 😂

Concernednan456 · 26/10/2022 00:38

I’ve done absolutely loads , deep cleaned most of the house , the fridge , weeded the jungle of a front garden and repaired some ( ancient but essential) tiles and finally done all the windows I’ve wanted to do for weeks . But that’s because my SEN child is at his childminders and I’m off work . So this has the opposite effect of most parents half term. The lady is an absolute saint and worth every penny because this is the first time I’ve had hours without him at home for actual years and he’s been having a ball of a time with her while I’ve sorted my chaotic life out . He’s even sleeping for several hours at night because she’s wearing him out when I’d have been struggling ( old , fat, peri menopausal, slipped discs) so any guilt I felt about letting her have him this week while I was off work has been thoroughly quashed . We are a sane , clean and happy house again. 10/10 would recommend .

Put a load of stuff away, cooked 2 dinners, dishwasher unloaded/loaded/unloaded/loaded, did a load of washing/cleaned bathroom sinks/cleaned one toilet/hoovered upstairs...always something to do, isn't there?!!!
